In this video I talk about Mikhail Bulgakov and I present a few of his works. Most of them are pretty short, and easy to read.
1. A Young Doctor's Notebook
2. Morphine
3. Heart of a Dog (or A Dog's Heart)
4. Ivan Vasilievich
5. The Crimson Island
6. Life of Monsieur de Molière
This is the sixth part of KLASSIK, a series that will, hopefully, inspire you to read Russian literature.

Great video! Bulgakov's plays are also worth reading. His recreation of Don Quijote is fantastic.

Thanks for reminding how I love A Young Doctor's Notebook :) Reading of Morphine was an important experience in my adolescence. It is a good reason to promise yourself not even to think of trying drugs. The destruction of a personality is dreadful, and the fact that Bulgakov knew what he was describing makes it even scarier.

I loved this video. I fell head over heels in love with The Master and Margarita so many years ago and then looked for other books by him. The White Guard is a perfect book and then I found A Young Doctors Notebook and was so impressed. Back then in London in the early 1970s being mad about this author was like being a member of a small group. Now thank goodness his brilliance is acknowledged everywhere.

Many artists were largely discovered posthumously like Franz Kafka, Van Gogh and Pirosmani. Interesting video, I have yet to read Bulgakov but Master and Margarita has been on my want to read list for a while.

Where have you been my whole life? I've been bing watching all your videos. Just love the way you talk about literature, your analytical view while introducing the plot of the story is so settle and direct to the point.

for all bulgakov lovers, i'd also kindly recommend plays "zoyka's apartment", "flight" and "the cabal of hypocrites", and unfinished novel "theatrical novel". all masterpieces. the mentioned "crimson island" is outrageously great play indeed.

Other than "Madter and Margarita" I wouldn't have been able to name another work of his. Which is strange, as I loved that novel. When an author has a novel that so greatly overshadows their bibliography, I assume it is all that is worth reading--which is quite ignorant of me, and I'm not sure why I do this. Whereas someone like Dostoevsky, who has more than one novel everyone know, I will read everything, and find out "The Idiot" is my personal favorite. So I really should know better.

Actually Stalin liked Bulgakov's books and respected him. Although her understood that Bulgakov doesn't like him.

Ivan the terrible- actually the terrible is not the best way to translate Grozny- more closer would be call him Dreadful or Fearsome. But not the terrible.
