Alexander Pushkin is undoubtedly the most influential Russian writer. He’s not as popular outside Russia, but you should give him a chance! This is where you could start:
1. Eugene Onegin
2. The Queen of Spades
3. The Captain's Daughter
4. The Little Tragedies
5. Tales of Belkin
6. The Tale of Tsar Saltan
This is the fourth part of KLASSIK, a series that will, hopefully, inspire you to read Russian literature.

Not only Russians but we Nepalese and Indians too. I was born in very underdeveloped region of Nepal. In my age, in the 70s/80s we have only two means of entertainment: radio and books. As a poor students we could buy only Russian literature which were translated into Hindi. Even though, Hindi was not our mother tongue or national language but because of closeness of our mother tongue we could understand very well. I am lucky that I fell in the love of Russian literature. And I wish one day I could visit Russia to pay my homage to these great poets and novelists!

I live in the USA, and I am just now getting into Pushkin, Eugene Onegin is where I started so far. Tatiana's love letter was like something I have never read before, I enjoyed it so.

Great video! I knew a bit about Pushkin from when I was a kid and read a collection of his short stories, but I had no idea he wrote "Mozart and Salieri" - which I just found out was the basis for the movie "Amadeus" 😮

Sometimes when considering the body of work from an author like Pushkin, one feels like they are standing at the base of a mountain and looking up. It’s exciting, intimidating, and hard to know where to take the first step. Thank you for these videos. I’ve wanted to experience Russian Romanticism and, needless to say, this is the place to start.

Best translation is James Falen's. The most poetic and understandable. Bilingual readers say if Pushkin was to write in English he would've written like Falen.

I found and picked up an Everyman’s Library edition of Collected Stories of Pushkin and it contains several of the short stories you mentioned like the Queen of Spades, The Captains Daughter, and the Tales of Belkin. Excited to discover Puskin for the first time

Poetry goes in the same rhythm that our hearts -- this is just mind-blowing. I just love these videos, especially because I'm one of those people who got sick of Pushkin in school. I didn't think I would ever pick him up again, but as I get older, I get more and more curious. It's really cool that you make these videos, as you can see they're helpful not just for the foreigners :) (also, very out of topic, but since we're here - I got a very nice comment from you on The Gray House, but when I wanted to open it on YT, it was gone :( Don't know what happened there)

What an excellent video!!! Do you find some similarities between Onegin and D' Annunzio's Andrea Sperelli from " The Pleasure"?? Pushkin' s " The Captain' s Daughter" was one of my first Russian readings. I am a huge fan of Russian culture in all its forms. Greetings from Greece.

I read Fourth Political Theory by Alexander Dugin, and Jordan Peterson mentions Dostoyevski a lot. I like learning about Dostoyevski but I’ve never finished any of his books, The Man Underground is the one I’m most interested in, and his letters to his father. I am interested in the Russian philosophy, not so much fiction, but this video helps me understand a bit more about Pushkin. Thanks for the informative video.
