Thank you for these videos! I can't always follow along perfectly, as this is my first new language and I don't really pause to think much, but I really enjoy watching these. I'm learning Bulgarian as a sign of affection for my Bulgarian girlfriend. :)

Thank you very much for your support! This seems to be one of the main reasons people learn Bulgarian 😀 We also don't normally take the time to pause when watching language videos, but it can be helpful (maybe you can also have your girlfriend "test" you for motivation). Keep it up!

@@Monoglossia Truth be told, it took her showing me some elements of Bulgarian culture to really appreciate it. I can see that many people would learn it just for the sake of pleasing their partner, but there really is a lot of beauty to be found. So it's evolving to become a genuine appreciation for that often overlooked nation.

Hi teachers! how are you? first to say again that I love the classes, I think you are a beautiful and cute couple and thank you for making this time available. My question is not exactly about the subject, I would like to know which language the teacher translates into? I am passionate about the Bulgarian language, but in order not to be without "usefulness" I thought about working with translation and I would like to know if there is such a market and if there is a demand for more Bulgarian translators. Thank you for your attention and I look forward to it.

Hi! We're good, thanks, nice to hear from you 🙂 When we filmed these videos, I was working as a English to Bulgarian translator of SAP software (it was a prerequisite to be fluent in at least one additional language in order to make comparisons with other translations). I'd say that there is a big enough market for translators that speak Bulgarian. The more frequent combination when it comes to Bulgarian and a more widely spread language (English, Portuguese, etc) is probably a native Bulgarian speaker who masters the other language. However, the other way round may be an interesting niche market skill that can be rewarding when you're passionate about the language - translation of Bulgarian texts related to Bulgarian culture, for example. I'm saying this keeping in mind that most stable and better paid translation jobs require you to translate into the language that is native to you (or that you're more fluent in). Interpretation jobs from Bulgarian might also be something to look into. I'm currently working on machine translation between Japanese and Bulgarian (a very rare pair), and it feels great to be able to provide insight where there isn't much experience and data. Another piece of advice is to focus on a particular field within translation (literature, tourism, software, legal documents, etc). Hope this helps!

@@Monoglossia Teacher, first of all thank you very much for your attention. Do you think there would be a market for translation from Bulgarian to Portuguese or that I would get work from Bulgarian to English? I already speak English and I'm going to start working with a friend at her company translating from English to Portuguese. This plan with Bulgarian is in the medium and long term because I need to have a very high level in Bulgarian, but I'm still a beginner. On the field, at least in relation to Bulgarian, I would like to focus on where work in Bulgarian appears for me. I would really like to talk more in depth about the topic with you, could I call you on Instagram or talk to you by email if you prefer a more "professional" relationship? I ask because I'm Brazilian so I tend to consider everyone a friend, close, but I know that not everyone thinks and wants the same.
@Monoglossia

On the contrary, thank you for being friendly, we really value this and also see our viewers as friends :) The thing is, I am in no way a specialist (I have only worked in the field for a while, and I'm not even based in Bulgaria). I could suggest you check out Upwork, a platform for freelancers, and look for jobs involving Bulgarian-Portuguese translation - in this way you can see if there are many of them, what kind of texts they relate to and even how well they're paid. You can also look at the Facebook group "Foreigners in Sofia and Friends" and communicate with Portuguese speakers based in Bulgaria; maybe some of them have worked with translation. In all cases, I am sure that if you are planning to work as a translator, learning an extra language is a great idea and will open new opportunities for you.

Hello, thanks a million for this course. I would like to know if the book used on class has listening activities and if it comes with a CD with the records?

Hello! We have double checked and there are no CDs / listening activities (they are all reading activities). We can surely pass the message to the authors that there is interest in listening practice.
