Hey everyone. I just wanted to encourage you guys to not lose hope because disc bulges CAN heal. I'm in my 20s and I was in major pain every day for about 6 months from a L5-S1 disc bulge (confirmed after having an MRI on my lower back). I was in horrible pain every day, the whole day, no matter what I was doing.. sitting, walking, trying to fall asleep etc. Sometimes it would take me even 2-3h to fall asleep because the pain was so bad. I had constant back pain and pain in my right leg (especially my thigh, around the joints and calf). I am sharing this so you can understand that I was in such bad pain and I healed! And I know how desperate I was to find some advice from someone that actually healed from this so I hope this is gonna help someone.. I am not 100% healed, I still feel pain once in a while.. for example after sitting for too long (ex 8h at work) or if i don't move my body for a couple days (like jogging or working out) but I would say I am 95% healed and for me it's like a miracle, after living in pain for 6months! I've been 95% pain-free for about 1 month and a half!! Things that I tried and worked for ME: 1. I changed my diet. I tried to adopt an anti inflammatory diet: - the only meat I eat is chicken (max 5 times a week). You can also eat turkey, it's actually even better; - I stopped eating sweets, fast food, processed foods.. especially icecream, chocolate bars, sodas, aliments that have added sugars (and most of them have it, check labels before eating sth), pre-cooked/frozen foods etc. - I ate a lot of vegetables&fruits (fried, steamed, smoothies etc).. about 70% of what I ate was vegetables and fruits - less white flour, white rice and more whole wheat flour, brown rice etc; You can find a lot of info about anti inflammatory diets, recipes etc online. I started an anti-inflammatory diet about 1month before my pain started to decrease. 2. I made an anti-inflammatory juice and I drank 1 shot a day for about a month. If you want, you can ask your dr first, but I felt ok the whole time..after all it's just natural ingredients. If you want the recipe for the juice let me know and I'll write it down in the comments. (it's mostly ginger, turmeric, aloe vera, apple cider vinegar etc). I feel like taking this juice helped very much, i started feeling some improvement after the 1st week. Idk if it was specifically the juice cuz I was doing more stuff so I am not sure. 3. I started moving my body almost everyday. I would either go jogging (1-2mi) or even just walking for 2-3mi. Or I would just do some exercises at home for 10-15 min. There are a lot of videos with exercises online, but one thing i wanna mention is to find exercises for your specific disc bulge cuz some people would just say "stretches for back pain/ disc bulge" but they can make ur pain worse, cuz they are not good for your specific disc bulge. As I was saying, mine was a L5-S1 and 1 thing you MUST stop doing is bending down with your back or lifting things with ur back. IF you have to bend down or pick sth up, bend ur knees and go down on your heels if that makes sense, don't bend your back cuz that's pushing the bulge even more on your nerves and that causes the pain.. I recommend watching the whole video as I tried to implement everything he was saying in this video and I feel like it really helped me. 4. I went to chiropractic adjustments and physical therapy this whole time (and still going). I started with 3 times a week, then 2times a week and now once a week. 5. ! I am doing Spinal Decompression. (I did it 6 times in about 1m and a half. Now I am doing it once every 2 weeks but this is sth for ur chiropractor to decide.) I feel like this also helped a lot cuz I've started feeling improvements since I started doing it. In the beginning for about 2 weeks it felt like my symptoms got even worse and after that I started feeling a lot better. But again, I was trying out so many things that I don't know what helped or what made it worse. But you should definitely try the spinal decompression. 6. I took a natural supplement that my chiropractor recommended. It's called Devil's claw and it's literally $8 at Walmart. I starting taking it about a month before I started feeling better. 7. I tried to sleep more on my back, or on my side with a pillow between my legs, I bought a cervical pillow, I tried to have a better posture etc. Also I feel like it's really important to have a good and positive attitude. I was really down and discouraged in the first 3 months and in those months I literally didn't feel any improvement.. I was in major pain the whole time. I really think that the body can't heal when you're just upset all the time.. it's like you're not allowing it to heal. I know it's hard to be positive when you're in such bad constant pain.. but try to make an effort, it's gonna be worth it. And also, I believe in God and I constantly prayed to receive healing and I declared healing over myself in Jesus' name. And I would thank for the healing that I received (even if at that time I was in pain). Believe you will receive healing. Have faith! God doesn't want you to suffer. As I was saying, there are a lot of things that I tried so I can't really point to sth and say that that's what you need to do, but I really hope this is gonna help someone. I would've loved to find some tips like these when I was struggling with so much pain. PS: It was my personal decision to not take any painkillers or other medication during these 6 months. I think I only took about 5 ibuprofens in this whole time. I can say that my healing process was 99% natural: chiropractic treatment, diet changes etc. That's what I was looking for and it definitely works! @@cubanblanco5009 I’m not going to the gym so Idk what to say. From my own experience, any exercise that meant bending my back was really bad for me and it would cause a lot of pain. And also lifting heavy things would cause pain for me. But I also know people that were lifting weights and stuff and they still healed. So I’m not sure. Maybe your doctor can give some info about that

Yeah, that 6-12 weeks is a sham. I'd like to meet these 'average' people they're surveying. I'm 39, and Both times for me were about 6 months total, with true measurable relief only starting to occur around the end of month 4. I wish they'd update that research and survey the present public because I was stressed out the first time around, thinking something was seriously wrong with me because I wasn't 'average.' Bless you, for these videos, man. You are doing the Lord's work. There is no pain like a truly trapped nerve from stenosis and/or a herniated disc. Emotional stress is compounded when we're misinformed about our recovery.

@@2Kingstar8 I don't think mine was injury-induced. It just 'came out of nowhere' in Spring 2022 and slowly resolved itself (with physical therapy) by December 2022. Then, in April 2023, all over again.....but the intensity was worse. I'm significantly better, but I still have functional limitations, so this year's recovery is tracking slower. Physical therapy was making it worse, so my current order is to listen to my body and simply not do the things that aggravate my condition while it's healing. My MRI revealed an L4/L5 herniated disc that has resulted in 'severe spinal stenosis' and retrolisthesis. The out-of-place bits are in my central nerve cavity.

I am supposed to come back to work in 20 days, I am going for my 2nd epidural shot in 10 days, I can’t go anywhere, I can’t seat in my car for too long, I lay down most of my day and walk a little, I am so discouraged 🫤 feels like it will never get better

Watching this video has just given me new hope. I'm 4 months into my bulging discs event and the pain has lessened but still have very excruciating episodes. I have just made a second appointment with a neurosurgeon. After this video, I believe I will be canceling that appointment and continuing my DIY physiotherapy on a stronger cadence with advice from your other videos. Thank you.

I was actually able to recover from a bulging disc. Anything said in this video is legit and his videos helped me a lot in his recovery and I’m going to explain how I did it: 1. I took a full week off (no work, no sports), I only moved if totally necessary. I stayed in bed as much as I could. I avoided any kind of SPINAL FLEXION or anything that cause me pain. 2. After the week of resting, I started doing 3 exercises that helped me like crazy 1 McKenzie Pushups 2 Bitilasana (Cow Pose) 3 Ustrasana (Camel Pose). I did these 3 as soon as I woke up and before going to sleep and I do them to this day! 3. I applied heat to the bulging disc area around twice a day, (I used a hot water bag or hair dryer with hot air) (I did these during the time I started with the 3 exercises listed above. 4. Once I felt much better, I started to strengthen the MULTIFIDUS MUSCLE and that’s what I’ve been doing to this day. I just want to also add a few other points 1. Be patient, don’t rush the healing process. I thought I was alone going through this but the more videos you watch, the more you realize how common this is 2. Avoid sitting for too long. Although I feel much better now, sitting for too long still causes me pain, a pain that goes away once I do the 3 exercises I listed. 4. The philosophy I applied with my recovery was : if it hurts when I flex my spine (bending down) I must do the opposite movements to fight the pain and reposition the disc. 5. Make sure you get an MRI to certify that you actually have a bulging disc I hope this comment will help whoever needs it. Remember to stay patient and you will also recover💪🏾

Thanks so much for sharing your experience. My boyfriend is 40 and really quite down about his L5/S1 slipped disc. He has had 3 episodes now in space of 13 months. He is watching videos all day but no concrete answers (which obviously is not possible!) I am desperately trying to find someone to get it touch with who can potentially share their experience with him. Would you be willing? It will give him a lot of hope and pull him out a negative mindset.

I've watched hundreds of back pain videos and this is one of the best -- thank you! It's nice to see someone debunk the 'six-week' myth! I even had a pain specialist recommend surgery to me because I was in pain for over six weeks; glad I didn't listen to her. I'm in month 17 of dealing with a bulging disc. I had about three horrible months but feel like I'm finally on the mend thanks to a great physical therapist. Thanks again for this video.

A true bulging disc is the most excruciating pain I've experienced... I'm on my 3rd month of bulging disc journey... physio exercises has helped.. takes time... don't focus on how long you've been in pain keep going and things will get better and be kind to yourself. I am over 5 months into my bulging disc issues. I foolishly ignored all the warning signs that something was coming for several months. Hindsight is always 20/20. In October of last year I finally decided to see a doctor (at this point I was totally functional, but using Advil before physical activity). They sent me for physical therapy. That helped a bit. At that point the therapist said that I could start to slowly reintroduce some of my regular activities (gym, golf). I did that. For golf, I was just hitting punch shots, nothing crazy. Then one day, boom, on the floor. Back to the doctor for my scheduled follow up. More PT before insurance would approve an MRI. My symptoms again improved a bit. Went for the MRI. Few mild bulges with slight annular fissure in two (all lumbar spine). Dr said not much they can do for me. I'm not a candidate for surgery. A steroid epidural would be next step if needed. The discs just need time to recover and I will need to strengthen my core after recovery. By now it's early February. The next 6 weeks I continued to improve a bit more. I go for chiropractic treatment every Saturday. I was again told I can slowly increase my activity. I did. No golf, just light weights. In early Apri I started to trend in the wrong direction again with my symptoms. My chiropractor warned me that even though I was trending in the right direction, I would likely have set backs (they are typical). I thought, nah, but yes, I did. I have dialed things back again and opted for the epidural. Both my doctor and chiropractor said many disc injuries take 6-18 months to totally heal. They believe I will recover completely, but it will take much more time than I had anticipated. It really is a bummer.

9 months Today is the day I have 100% pain free condition. It was 99.7% yesterday. Some mild pin-prick pain in the spine during my sleep that I have to wake up every 3 hours (to adjust my sleeping position). For the first time, it is zero pain in my sleep last night.

Before that, I couldn't sleep without feeling pain. I couldn't stand without feeling pain. I had to keep moving. Walking is fine, standing is not. I couldn't sit more than 15 minutes without pain. Then it became 2 hours, 4 hours, 6 hours. Then I could stand without feeling pain. Then I can bend down without feeling pain. Then, I was able to sit and stand, and walk without pain, but it was pin prick pain every 2-3 hours in my sleep. It was stuck like that for 3-4 months. I can do everything in day time without pain, as long as I don't bend down to lift objects. I can carry a bag-pack with 2 books and a water bottle and walk around the whole day without pain. Just the sleep was a problem. Pin prick pain every 2 hours, and just feels not quite 100%. Last night was the first time I felt zero pain in my sleep. I went out for a run today. No pain. Total time lapse from day of injury to today is: 9 months.

He’s on spot when he says it can be recovered within 6 -12 weeks. I have been diagnosed with mild slip disc in March and three months have passed by with all physio therapy (changed twice) yet the pain is still there. The worst part is my family doesn’t fully understand my condition. I know they are doing their best to help me and give me recommendation but sometimes they just treat it quite normally and I feel quite medically neglected by them.

i have a c5 c6 herniation. Was diagnsed in October 2019. I recovered from it but now after a long time it came back and I have the worst pain in my neck shoulder and right arm again. It's been three weeks now but I have started to recover greatly from it. All the stretching and applied heating seemed to work significantly in the last three weeks. Hopefully, physio and deep massage help you recover from it. @@ishitatripathi3406

Well basically I was diagnosed "mild" because there is no numbness sensation in my legs or any tingling and according to my ortho, all the PTs and the nuerosurgeon I have visited, they see that it has come out slightly and is touching my sciatic nerve due to which I am feeling the pain. However it has thankfully not been protruded out too much. I don't remember the sizes because one PT and my spine surgeon both have said there is some error in the MRI report. They all went in dept quite medically which I don't recall now, basically the cms with my disc sizes was not making sense. I have improved a bit though. My pain tolerance has increased and the pain even though it's still there comes after 30 min now, Earlier it was like within 10 min. My cousin who is a PT said that if I am being diagnosed as mild and it has not been recovered within 2 months,then I should be visiting a spine surgeon and get it checked. My overall advice to everyone who are in same situation as me: 1. Have second or third opinion always and show them your MRI reports. 2. Explore all medical option, ie. MD, orthopedic, PT and then spine surgeon if PT isn't that helpful 3. Have a support system mostly with ppl who have been in same situation as you. I would vent and have emotional support with two of my friends who have chronic back pain too. 4. Give it time like at least month, however please don't procrastinate much on it if it doesn't improve a bit after substantial period of time. Hope this helps, take care of yourself too! :)

I am two years out from an automobile accident, that resulted in several broken bones and a herniated L5/S1. Bones healed rapidly, but I have had persistent numbness in the side of my foot and last three toes, as well as significant weakness in my calf muscles. Never had pain. But I continue to get better.. Even within the last few months I have marked improvement. The numbness is just starting to go away, and I can finally lift my heel off he ground. Obviously each case is different. I am 58 years old, spent a month in rehab and five months in physical therapy. But with daily walks, and occasional visits to the gym, I am getting better - even if the recovery has been quite long.

I’ve had issues for the last 9/10 months with my bulged disk. In the last 2 months it got so bad that I couldn’t sit or stand for any longer than a couple of mins! I went through private healthcare got a scan then had the steroid/anaesthetic/epidural injection. It’s really reduced the pain thus far (one week after). Hoping that it sorts it out! To anyone suffering from this problem, I feel your pain, it’s the worst pain I’ve ever experienced. But remember, if you do something and act on it, it will only be temporary pain. You got this! :)

I've had a disc bulge for 1.5 years, seen 3 physios and 1 osteo. had 2 hospital visits for 2 different procedures. Still have it. still can't walk or stand up straight

Got a HD end of November and my dumb orthopaedist just gave me pain killers and injections and told me to go to work just as normal. It made it much worse to the point I had to go to ER between christmas and New Year. And even after that this orthopaedist still only wanted to give me painkillers and insisted on me going to work. So I went to my GP who didn't hesitate to write me a sick leave, so for the following two weeks I stayed at home, got myself a back support belt, sleept on the floor on a camping mat, legs slightly elevated, paying super attention to every single move I did. And got the idea from my father, who also had a HD, to have traction of the spine (attached a resistance band to my legs and pulled my body on tension laying on my back. That brought the pain down to a level I dare to actually do exercises to improve my stabilising muscles. Doing isometric exercises now and will move to dynamic exercises once I feel good enough.

I feel like it’s a disc issue but I haven’t went to the doctor because I just lost my Medicaid plus I’m waiting for the job at ups to provide it to me on May this year smh. The story is injured my back when I came back from a week from the gym. I did my warmups and too it’s leg day so I know I gotta work up to what I gotta do. My pr is 295lbs but I have went light to what is light for me is like 225 and slowly worked up. Not idk what happened it was hot in the gym and when I was about to pick up the barbell I heard a pop from my lower back. I almost passed out or wanted to cry to my mom😂. Thankfully my coworker was there to help me to the car but I can walk just slow movements and little mobility to bending over. In addition to that, muscle spasms going down from my behind down to my calves but no numbness occurring. I just re enrolled myself for Medicaid again. Prayers

4 years and my disc bulge never really got better or worse on MRI… just sciatica which became consistently worse more so when sitting. I did everything to get the bulge/ pain sorted and nothing worked. I finally got surgery and yes the pain did improve down the leg but the long standing nerve compression has made me hypersensitive to nerve pain flare ups that do now settle unlike before. In short some people get lucky with this injury and fully recover and others don’t.

To my surprise no disc bulge/nerve impingement BUT still present an annular tear which was visible on MRI for 8 years! Apparently some of these tears appear to never get better, some of these tears can be painful/ and some not....just to add to the mystery!!

the first step is to get the disc back into place.. it's not going to heal if it's not in place and you'll be in a lot of pain for a long time if you don't do that so you'll need to have an active approach to recovery (as opposed to just laying in bed all day because you're in pain). A. loosen muscles around the area with lots of walking, or get into a hot tub/warm bath. B. engage in gentle flexion and extension stretches once your muscles aren't as tight (basically arching your back forward and backward). cobra pose, spinal flossing, finding something to hang and gently sway from (spinal decompression) are also some fun options. in most cases you should be out of agony in a week if you follow these instructions.

I’m on day 17 and today was really bad. Last two days were getting better. I did find a way to stretch my lower back by sitting on my heels and relaxing, I could feel the muscles stretching, and when I stood up the agonizing pain on the side of my leg and butt went away and I could walk. Hang in there people, if you try hard and put effort in you will heal. Be careful what content you consume or your pain will consume you, I hope I can get back to making KZbin videos soon!

I have tried everything in the book to get my L5-S1 disc to push back in - epidurals, facet injections, chiropractic, pain medication, spinal cord stimulator, PT, and I’ve seen a surgeon who stated that my disc bulge wasn’t bad enough to surgically repair. NOTHING has worked for me. I’m 34 and this has had a significant impact on my life for the past 3 years. To combat it and try to not make it worse by gaining weight, I walk 16,000 steps a day or what equates to about 6-7 miles. I also stay on a special low-calorie diet. So I’m sitting here watching these videos to get some idea on if there is even a next step for me or if I have to live with this for the rest of my life.

30 years old, have disc issues myself. I was very sedimentary for 2 years after my dad died and somehow I guess from my It job and sitting so much I got back issues. I own a gym in my office and I plan to probably seek physical therapy I was hoping it would go away on its own but it’s been 3 months of pain and I just don’t want to deal with it anymore . I need almost year, it is improving with Physio, chiropractor, acupuncture, chinese massage, supplements. A lot of exercises can be done at home, the most exercise I need is using the barbell, to strengthen my back. Stay hydrated, bridges, bird dog, dead bug, hip hinges, weights squats…. Later I was found out a rare condition I have left anterior innominate dysfunction right posterior innominate dysfunction, on top of sciatica on my left side, i have pain on right groin area. Once this was identified, finally my PT could tailor me the right exercises, and checking if my feet are even lengthwise, if off , he had to do some manipulation to help to make them even.

Do sciatic nerve floss multiple times a day. . Gently. Sleep on side with a pillow between your legs. Use an inversion table. Once it starts to feel better incorporate gentle stretching. Then begin doing pelvic tilts.

April 1st: Bad case of sciatica. Went to doc, who diagnosed it. April 23rd: Had , which confirmed a bulging disc and a very angry sciatic nerve on my right side. It was twice as large as the left one. April 30th: Started physical therapy. Now: I am just about 98% back to normal. With the sciatica, I had injured my piriformis muscle as well. What a pain in the butt, literally 😅 The sciatica weakened the calf muscle in my right leg to the point where I couldn't do a calf raise or get up on my tippytoes on the leg. Walking sucked. Now I am able to almost walk normal again. It's been a long two months, but I firmly believe that physical therapy has helped me 100%. I now must concentrate on building up all my muscles so that I hopefully can prevent that crap from happening again.

@AlisonMacDonald-u1x Early June was great, but then towards the end of the month, I started noticing some back irritation after I would get out of a car. This time on my left side. Now I'm having mild sciatica on my left side, so I've made the decision to have surgery in a week's time. I'm not spending the rest of my life with a herniated disc that's decided to play ping pong with my sciatic nerves. Hopefully, the surgery will help me.

I am a geriatric male. I had a circumferential annular bulge with herniation and nerve root impingement as determined with MRI. At L5 S1 right central/subarticular disc extrusion dissecting caudally to the mid S1 level. The herniated fragment extended over approximately 6 x 12 mm in AP and craniocaudal extent. On day one I had presented with full blown almost immobilizing right sided sciatic pain extending all the way to the metatarsals. After a course of NSAIDS that I tapered down over three - four weeks and a escalating course of ambulation every two to four hours (25 meters to 2 miles), I was right as rain and totally pain free on day 42... or, 6 weeks. A number of metanalysis papers would back up the findings you report by the NHS.

Hello, there is no way I haven't tried and 1 year has passed, my L5-S1 hernia is not healing anymore, it has been stuck for the last 4 months and there is no sign of healing. I think it's time for surgery :( I watched tons of videos on KZbin and learned a lot, I think I am a physiotherapist now.

Thanks Will. Very sensible and calming video ! 8 months in from initial diagnosis of L5/S1 herniation, MRI showed the big herniation to the left and it is slowly, slowly improving thankfully. Doing the phtsical work and if i overdo it e.g. more than an hours walking, I hurt more than normal for a few days. Certainly not 6-12 weeks but it is improving and that gives me encouragement to keep going.

Keep going! I’m at 9 months and finally starting to be able to ride bikes, go for long walks, and do more physical therapy exercises without any pain. Never would have thought it would take this long!

I would highly recommend getting multiple opinions from different doctors before pursing surgery to ensure it’s the right choice for you. Praying you, man! Let me know if you need anything

I got a disc bulge in my L5 S1 from doing heavy deadlifts on 2nd August, 2023, which was diagnosed a month later. Meanwhile, I would continue with my normal workout and would notice discomfort and significant weakness in my overall system. With regards to the pain, I never had sciatica. It started off localised and very deep on the right side. A local physio misdiagnosed it as right QL injury, but when the pain did not improve for 2 weeks, I suspected it was something more. An experienced chiro made me do some chiropractic x rays and diagnosed mild slip disc in the L5 S1 joint. The pain seems to have evolved, as in it keeps switching sides . It also seems to alter between being localised to being more dull and achy at times. It becomes worse in the mornings and better as the day progresses. Initially for a month, the pain was really unpredictable and it only got triggered during a twist (bending to touch my right toe with my left hand). During the first month, my CNS became more sensitive to heavier loads and I got significantly weaker immediately. As in at the top of the lift, with moderate loads, I felt like I was about to pass out. As in my CNS was overloading for some reason. In September, this particular issue seemed to have resolved after a chiro adjustment of lower back. However, the pain evolved to becoming more localised and sore close to the right SI joint spot. Some days it's better, other days it gets worse. It's never unbearable, but the improvement seemed to have stalled beyond what it was around the 1.5 month mark. A part of the reason is that my right leg is smaller than my left one by half an inch, which is more than the normal range. There was a shift in weight distribution at the top of the lift which resulted in the bulge. I always suspected the limb length difference and was advised years ago, to get a heel on my right to offset the difference, but never really bothered until now. My gait feels a lot more balanced with insoles on my right shoes. Update : My disc bulge got healed in 2 months. I did a few back strengthening exercises which improved. It was neither complete rest nor heavy exercise that was solely responsible for the healing. It was rather a very subtle combination of both with emphasis on rest. For more details, write a comment.

I’m on about week 12, I feel so much better at last, my back is still stiff but the pain is so much less. I have walked every day, at first I could only walk on the flat or uphill, but that’s so much easier now. I’ve done yoga and used heat and cold. I’m 70, so wearing out somewhat

I’ve had a large prolapse bulging disc for nearly a year I’ve had chiropractor and pain killers and at the start physio therapy. I would now say I think it’s getting better. If I stand still for a little while that makes it worse and I still get sciatica pain in my calf mainly. I’ve just recently done some spine decompression exercises which I need to do more of I feel.

B UT........... what you did not explain or describe is how a bulging disc can heal.. in the sense of it is bulging.. to what degree does it un bulge.. is the bulging because of where it is right now.. or where it is at times of movement.. for example.. if someone postures correctly is the disc returning to where it should ??? but easily bulging again.. or does it stay bulged until healed.. that needs explaining.. in several of your vids on this i have not heard you explain it. Saying to not worry how the scan looks that it can look the same.. but no.. i will be concerned as to how a scan looks because inlay mans terms it indicates a current physical problem

I went four and a half months with a herniated disc before I went to the doctor I didn't know why I was hurting so much 3 weeks later I had an MRI two and a half weeks after the MRI I found out I had a herniated disc I started doing stretches once maybe twice a day three times at the doctor for almost three and a half months when I got better I stopped doing my stretches I started doing my stretches only when my back and legs hurt I believe it all depends on how often you do your stretches if you do stretches all day everyday even when you feel better I believe that sciatica will heal faster if you don't do your stretches it'll take longer to heal

Injury in April 6 months. 5mm disc protrusion with annular tear. Things are a lot better than they were but still in discomfort. Just had 2nd steroid injection. A horrible injury i was so focused on it repairing in 6 weeks as per the internet but it really isnt the case.

Took me a full three months to be able to function minimally after herniating c-7 cervical disc. The nerve down my arm was completely debilitating. Second epidural along with cold plunging seems to have helped. I’m 4 months out now and am trying to get back to my old self. Left arm has atrophied and needs a lot of work to get back some of the strength I have lost.

I have a large hernia (1.4 cm L4-L5) and complete stenosis. The severe pain went away after 3 weeks, but full recovery has not occurred for half a year. I can walk, bend, ride a bike, but still cannot lift weights. I did physio and still doing exercise therapy, but the problem does not disappear completely. Now I think that I spent a lot of time and money in vain, and I should have had an operation.

I had neck injury 7 years ago now MRI is recently done and it says At C2-C3, C3-C4, C4-C5, C5-C6 and C6-C7 levels: Mild disco-osteophytic bulges indenting anterior epidural space. Should I consult orthopedic surgeon or just PT is enough? BTW I had been seeing PT since last 4 years and once I stop therapy my symptoms come back. Your time and suggestion is appreciated doctor. I’ve had a bulging disc on left side of my hip the doctor said at hospital few yrs ago.. I’ve had few issues with it only when I lift things too heavy this time I did not do any heavy lifting it came out of nowhere and its been hurting for 4 days now past 2 days have been the worst I can’t even get outta bed or turn in sleep without my lower spine locking on me.. think it all came from when I was standing on my bed to reach something on a shelf then sprained my ankle on the way down ii fell directly on lower part of my spine and could not move for bout 3 minutes straight!! After that the pain stood for bout almost 2 months I never went to hospital until a year or so after from lifting something heavy and throwing my back out!! I really hope I don’t deal with this pain for life it’s worse then when I got shot and dealing with shingles on my leg which are 2 painful other things to deal with but this back problem tops that for sure!!!

Hi there is it advisable to use surgery if it’s a dull ache that comes and goes especially in colder conditions I work as a butcher with a lot of heavy lifting the ache is in the tail bone area s1tol5 and it has been like this for about 9months after the first 3months was sciatica
