Bulk Speed Test 1

As the title says; this is a speed test of the Bulk velomobile. It is selected clips from a 23 km flat-out run to test the overall speed on descent, flat ground and climbing

I wonder how fast this thing goes if you push some higher numbers? 450-500w for a few minutes should get it up to speed pretty well, especially if you could combine that with a good tailwind! How much speed does it carry at a steady 300w?

Drag increases as a square of the speed. So, the speeds you see with this are really at the 160-180watts. I have sprinted at 300 watts and you get about 5-6km/h more on flat ground; the fastest I ever sprinted on flat ground was 68km/h. It is the law of diminishing returns for speed at that point. I'm sure that those who can put out 500-600 watts can probably get a little over 70km/h, but I would be surprised if much more.

I bet the bulk didn't like the tarmac. My old mango needs SMOOTH tarmac to get to speed. The cracks and the rough surface would really slow me down.

It actually does fine on rough roads. I have the "comfort" suspension so it absorbs the bumps well. However, it has a lot more lean than the tighter suspension would have. But, the cracks don't seem to slow me down much.

71 km/h max speed and cuising at 50+ in favorable wind really great performance

I detest the K/hr meter. Who was the genius who made the calibrations? I would have to get rid of that monstrosity!

@@JohnDTrites Opinion? When the gauge is calibrated - example - with a devision half-way between 30 and 45 K/h, what is it, 37.5 K/h? Good luck being able to figure that out on the fly! Dah.
