There is something about a species specific setup in any tank that just looks more natural, relaxing and pleasing to the eye. It’s easy to go down the route of collecting ‘one of everything’ approach but it always looks a little forced and sometimes garish. Biotope aquariums are just so beautiful proving sometimes less is more. Great job guys, love BRSTV.

I was breeding clowns a couple years back. I have kept a harem tank of GSM without anemones and raised them to adulthood. I may have had 40 fish in a 55 gallon tank. The fish grew quite large. I did loose some fish due to aggression. But for the most part it was a success. Supplying the fish with enough food seemed to be key.

My reef tank suffers from little to no nutrients and have seriously thought about adding a clown harem tank piped into the same system. This way the nutrients from the clowns and anemones can help feed the main reef tank. Maybe one day I will have to try that. Clowns are some of the most entertaining fish in the sea!

i actually wondered why there were no crustaceans added (or not shouted out) - not hermits no spiders no cleaners (about 30 fish in a tank - enough to scub), not even a pompom crab. a good helper for nutrient export which would be supportet by the water change shedule would have been a giant clam.

The key is finding a good one from your Store. Sometimes they are damaged or ill when you get them. You know you got a good one when they attach to the drip acclimation bowl and their foot is healthy! I would find some local reef buddies to give you one that split naturally. Do frequent water changes and you will be good. If your nitrates spike or blast them with light to fast they might get stressed.
@wizzywizard12236 жыл бұрын
A Ron so when putting the anemone right in the tank after acclimation should I leave it at the bottom and slowly bring it up and how do I know if it would be too much light or too little
@jnava1216 жыл бұрын
You can leave it on the bottom or near some rocks, they like to put their foot in something like a crevice or corner to get a good solid base. I would rest him on some live rock (make sure he gets a little light so he can open up ) . I normally turn my LED lighting down some ( soft blues on kessils ) and ramp them up over a week or 2 so depending on how it looks. Turn your flow down until they get settled they can wander. I have 4 rbta's and 2 gigantea carpets they all have their own personalities! Reef 2 Reef is a helpful forum post your pics or anything if run into issues! Once they attach and open up some they are doing well from there. They will wander around find a spot they like! Water changes help if you are worried about the health. Make perfect water and that will equal happy fish and corals ! good luck !

@BRStv2 жыл бұрын
It depends on the spectrum of light that the bulbs provide. Generally speaking, corals and anemones do best right around 450-460 nm. Even reefing bulbs that appear to be white will usually have a spike in this 450-460 nm range. If that's the case with the bulbs you purchased, they're likely sufficient.

What is the minimum gallon amount you'd recommend for this kind of tank? sump and display
@BRStv4 жыл бұрын
The 120 gallon display tank that we used for the Clown Harem seemed to be the sweet spot between providing enough territory without being a huge tank. You could probably get by with a smaller harem in something like a 75 gallon display, but wouldn't necessarily try it in anything significantly smaller.
@aaronwhyte79414 жыл бұрын
Could you do this with other types of clowns eg clarkii ect
@BRStv4 жыл бұрын
Clowns like maroons and clarkiis tend to be a little more aggressive than ocellaris clownfish, so while we haven't tried this ourselves, it's likely going to be much more difficult to keep a harem of this size with those clownfish types.

it possible keep 3 clowns 1 tank 54L?
@BRStv3 жыл бұрын
Three clowns is tricky because with so few fish, two of them will usually gang up on the weakest fish in the group. The reason why our clown harem tank worked is because we had so many clowns and it helped to spread out that aggression.
@grnb.29122 жыл бұрын
How many clowns would you recommend for a harem in a 60 cube?
@BRStv2 жыл бұрын
A 60 cube would be almost exactly this tank cut in half. Based on our experience with this clown harem tank and the aggression that went on, I would suggest a max of 10 clowns with a lot of territory to hide, feeding, and associated filtration to handle that heavy feeding.
