The 1st time I'd ever actually went to Fort Stockton to actually stop and be a patron of the town ,instead of speeding through on I 10,was 1980,when I was working for PCC in Iraan...Man that was a lifetime ago.. I see it hasn't changed much since. Which is a good thing ,nowadays. Elk in West Texas...I hear that if you like big Rattlesnakes and elk, it's the place to go.. I do not know about elk,however I can assure you that the Rattlesnakes are huge.. I have hunted Idaho as a youngman, and remember hearing that eerie, majestic and frightening sound of a bull elk in rut..It will make you feel alive and every hair will stand up on your neck . My daughter was 14 when she was picked for a youth hunt for Elk! I thought “what Elk in Texas?” Yes, we were in the Davis Mountains absolutely some of the most beautiful pristine habitat I have ever put my eyes on. So grateful we were able to experience an all day hunt from dawn till dusk, 7 miles of hiking that day, every feeling and emotion known to humans. She connected on the second day out of 4 days hunting with an 800 lb 5x5 mature bull. It was epic and the bond between my daughter, the elk, and myself with live till the end of our time on this earth.

I would love to eat some elk meat someday. I have had moose and venison whitetail and both were excellent but I have heard that elk and bison are the best.👍
