That weld/jig table is one of my favorite shop tools you have. In my shop days I just had 1/2" thick table top & bench. All our shop tables and workbenches we custom made to fit our needs in the Layout dept. Back then, you name it, we laid out something on it no matter what shape you had.

Sorry to ask questions on this build after 6 months. I checked the links in the description and I didn’t get a clear answer. Can someone confirm if this is what happened on the rear axle please. Live Axle> 4” hubs>Adapters>Larger Wheel and Tire (ATV or UTV I assume) I’m new to this world and I’m actually attempting the same thing but I’m finding limits to the hubs and wheels available until I stumbled across your channel. You are making things look easy and using much larger sized wheel and tire combos then I’m finding on the ol interwebs. Any guidance you can provide would be much appreciated. Thanks from a new subscriber!

5 bearings seems like a good idea, more bearings equal more better? but thats not the case, you end up with over constraint of the shaft. in this application you can't make accurate and rigid alignment of the bearings, so the shaft gets bent every time it rotates (this on a small scale and cant be seen by eye) this leads to bearing failure from cyclical over loading and fatigue fractures in shafts. might not see the effects in something like this that wont be used much, but in a continuous running industrial application, this would be a big problem. just size the shaft and two bearings appropriately for the job, more bearings dont make up for cheap parts. thanks for listening to my TED talk.

It seems to me that using lock collars to hold the hubs on is just not a great idea. I guess it typically doesn’t see too much of a load on the side of the tire though to have to worry about them coming off. Not criticizing just wondering if that would ever be an issue.

@@RedBeardsGarage R&D yep Redbull & Doritos chips no way it took you more than 5 min to draw that up unless your not that good at your job not to mention you started with an axle that was a bit bent 4:49 look at the lower part as he turns it the outside 2 bearings are doing almost nothing at all the way you have them mounted on that light metal strapping instead of making the the 2 outside 1"x2"out wider or adding another set of 1"x2" to mount them on there are at lest 4 changes i would have made to how you designed / built that unit PS:- i was building this stuff before you where born
