The magnificient and deadly dance of bullets. Their spin imparts a gyroscopical stabilization to them, which allows them to travel faster and more precisely to their targets. The stabiliting effects of the spin is desgined to prevent the bullet from losing its stability in flight. One it penetrates a more viscious environment than air, such as water or a human body, the spin is no longer sufficient to keep the bullet stable.

Interestingly enough if you fire a pistol at a frozen lake at the right angle, the bullet will actually bounce straight up and then begin to spin like a supersonic top on the ice. Its pretty amazing to see.

The end flights of an arrow do the same, adds spin to the shaft. A hard spinning shaft always gets the job done.

They’re called fletchings, also arrows wobble quite substantially during flight, fun fact lol.

No. Arrows don't primarily rely on spin and you don't want them to spin as it reduces range. Bullets use gyroscopic forces to stabilize an object with the center of aerodynamic force in front of the center of gravity. An arrow has a heavy tip and light feathers at the rear. The former shifts COG forward, the later shifts the center of forces back, until they cross and the arrow becomes stable. If you try to use a stick without a tip or feathers, it will just tumble. If you want to know if a projectile can rely on aerodynamic stability or needs spin, fix a string to its balance point and spin it through the air. If the nose moves into the wind, it's stable, if not, it needs spin stabilization.

Prime reason why barrels tend to have rifling to increase or help the gyroscopic spin of the bullet as it exits the chamber.

Hey. I have a small question. Do you ever do diggings near Odessa? My great grandfather fought in the romanian army and died from a shell hitting him but we never got his body back. If u did diggings there did u find any bodies?

I was working on a roof once and a 45 caliber bullet fell out of the sky right where I had been standing a second earlyer. It's not at all unusual to hear a gunfire where I'm from but it's still a pretty unlikely occurrence.
