I recently had a gnarly bulging disc that put me out for about 6 weeks. I’m reconsidering my style as mainly a guard player, but it’s so hard to change what is so ingrained now. I’m very concerned about future injuries that may put me out of training for life

Great show ! As mostly a guard player this podcast really made me think about other ways to roll to keep longevity in the sport ✌️

It seems to me that aside from onvioud things (getting stacked, getting into dangerous leg lock situations) that no position is that dangerous, it's the transitions... Scrambles to get on top, take downs to get on top, and having too much load or tension in general while resisting instead of going with the flow.

What is the best passing strategy for a 6 foot 3 225 pounder, Older BJJ male. Down the middle? Circling around? 3 stripe white belt. Thanks good show 👍

Most BJJ instructors I viewed never fever one best guard passing style. They often, OFTEN mix up two or three guard passing method, regardless of their body morphology. Keep this in mind, whatever your height/weight, once the students get use to your one of two guard passing method, they'll adjust their bottom retention, and literally stop you, unless you train like a full time grappler. I would suggest you study Keenan Cornelius vids. Fabio Gurgel. Jon Thomas, one of the best in guard passing material. With Jon Thomas you don't have to buy a BJJFanatic DVD series. He spends an extensive amount of youtube time instructing viewers about most BJJ techniques, and his guard passing material is unparallel. You've got hours of material for free on youtube, and he'll even update his guard passing methods. Think about it, students spends tn of money with private classes under a black belt to earn this material, and he does it for free, take it while its there.

@@tededo Of course having a varied approach of many passes is best but our man is a 3 stripe white belt. The best thing to do is not over load an early learner with too much info.

C5-C6 bulging disk. Avoid the stack, as much as possible. Definitely enjoy passing more than guard play.

How do you strengthen or condition your knees and legs when they are up in the air when you are playing guard and there isn’t a connection? pummeling my knees are killing me
@bulletproofforbjj Жыл бұрын
You strengthen them by doing ground based work. Thats key to preparing your knees for Guard work. Lots of good routines in our program.

HI Guys, You say to stay on top if you don't want to be injured, but how do I do that? What takedowns, moves etc do I need t do to avoid these situations?
@bulletproofforbjj2 жыл бұрын
Hi Kxe, good question! Learning takedowns is a complex job, however it's important to start with the basics. That really is a more suitable question for your coach, or you could refer to the many youtube accounts that focus on BJJ technique.

This is so wrong fundamentally. If you’re getting hurt doing guard retention, bolos, inverting, etc, you have bad body positioning. You’re getting hurt because you’re compensating with athleticism.
@bulletproofforbjj2 жыл бұрын
Appreciate your point. I’d say bad body position definitely contributes.
