When I was a deputy sheriff, many years ago, our patrol cars were the Crown Vic! Smooth and comfortable ride, roomy interior and a trunk that was HUGE and, exceptional stability even at high speed! The Vic's ride made it the perfect vehicle if you had to spend 12 hours every day in the seat of a patrol car! The fastest I ever got mine to was 110+ mph. My fellow officer was holding on with white knuckles! I was on an interstate highway going to an emergency, not just "seeing what it would do"! With the stress and abuse of multiple drivers, surprisingly ours were rarely found in the shop for repairs. Many of them were still in service with 4+ years and many 100's of thousands of miles on them. They lived out a second life as the patrol cars for our auxiliary deputies for years after they were replaced with smaller (better mpg) vehicles for the full-time deputies use. We sure did miss the ride and power of the Crown Vic!

Totally agree on the ride. I've done many 12 hour straight cross country runs , the cvpi handles every road condition like the champ it is and does not stop. Wouldn't sell mine for 20k unless I could get another one just like mine with less miles lol.

I was a Corerate Cop, back in the nineties, and had to use Dodge boats. You could fly right off the road if you didnt brake, and swing the weight around right. Wish I ad a Crown Vic !

Me and my family owned a 2003 Grand Marquis. It had 15k miles when we got it 2008 and just 4 months back we sold it after driving for 210k miles. Extremely reliable and strong cars. One major issue that these cars had was especially for the model year 2003 where the rear axles were not heat treated properly that caused the bearings to eat the metal of the axle. I had to replace both the axles with bearings and seals at around 150k miles and it was perfect. I have a very good knowledge of these cars and had maintained a very long service history as well. Hopefully she is being taken care off by the new owner. Will always recommend this car to everyone looking for something reliable, safe and long lasting vehicle that can seat 7 persons, yes seven people( 3 in front and 4 in the rear) with humongous amount of trunk space.

@@CarswithNash thankfully I diagnosed the problem well before it went bad. So I replaced them in time and the car was back on the road with no problems. My car didn't require a rebuild thankfully.

The only thing that I could not diagnose and repair in my 03 Grand Marquis was failed Cruise Control. I replaced cruise break switch above the brake pedal and buttons on the steering wheel. Checked all the wiring but still no luck. It failed at around 150k miles.

I ask my self that all the time. How does Scotty have more views then ratchet wrenches, southmain, fordmakuloco, Pine Hollow, scannerdanner and so on. I dont get how anyone sees his videos helpful or even knowledgeable. He never shows anything example if your car has a lean code you might have a vacuum leak. What in the f#ck is that. He doesn't show how to test or if its not what to do. Another good one i seen if your cars burn oil your pvc filter could be bad. Most cars dont have pvc filters anymore what a load of sh#t its so broad of an answer.

I watch Scotty. After listening to Scotty, I often learn something after searching for other videos by channels that have the details. He is like the Cliff Notes, he doesn't tell you the whole story, but he often is a lead-in to learn something that maybe he didn't even intended to say.

You will probably have an easier time finding a well cared for Mercury or Lincoln since there were mostly sold new to elderly people. I bought a 2003 Lincoln Town Car with 125k miles on it in May 2020. I have put some money into it. The car was in near perfect condition but needed new tires (old ones were dry rotted). Replaced the intake manifold and the radiator as preventative maintenance. I also needed to replace the control arms/ball joints (common on these models), rear brakes (pads & rotors), and an AC hose. Other than that it's been fluids & filters. I'm in it a little more than I wanted to be but I'm quite sure that I will be able to drive this car for the next six-seven years. My commute is a 90 mile round trip on an interstate highway. Much more comfortable these days. ;)

The problem with the spark plugs coming out of the heads was fixed in late 2003, Ford redesigned the heads, adding more threads and material in the spark plug holes. They started using these heads in November 2003. So anything with a build date of 11/03 on is fine. Still use the updated torque spec either way. If you check your plugs torque at every oil change on the old heads, should be fine.

If you change your oil after warming up the engine (to get it to flow out quicker), then you should NOT touch the spark plugs. Spark plugs in aluminum heads should only be removed , or "adjusted", when the engine is dead cold.

Hey, this guy is right. I've owned three P71 (police interceptor) Crown Vics and loved them. The only reason I don't drive one today is that I needed to buy a truck for work projects. All of mine were government auction sales and I put a lot of miles on them. If you don't like the searchlight hanging off the side, then simply remove it and plug the hole. I learned the hard way about the intake manifold and how it warps in 2002 and earlier, so I stick with 03 and later. My last was 2011. I know it runs, because my son bought if off from me. Never had any major problem in 03 to 11.

I’ve owned one of these - a great car, indeed...But: when you’re buying, try to stay away from the city patrol and the state trooper vehicles. They idle for hours, so the mileage doesn’t tell the whole story. They also get driven very hard, so rear differential and transmission failures are not uncommon.

I have owned several Highway Patrol Crown Vics. They do run forever. Intakes issues on a few years. My Wife t boned a red light runner... walked away. Crown Vic gave its life. Great cars.

Saw this video and couldn't wait to watch. I own three CVs, one CVPI and two LX models. The 5-O (CVPI) is my daily while the wife-eee drives one of the LXs. We swear by them, thoroughly enjoy the reliability and ruggedness and worry not regarding the fuel economy. There are some things that are more important than that, for us at least. If we can have a vehicle that will last longer, keep us safer and do so reliably, we'll take that as a tradeoff for a slightly higher fuel bill. And do so every time. Anyway thanks, enjoyed it.

The things I can't do, it's because I don't have the means or the space to do them, or because I'd need an extra pair of hands. It's not rocket science, anyone with a brain and 2 hands can do most of usual stuff with just a little guidance.

@Camaro 1968 Hey, I used to do auto repair. Every time I started a new job 1st thing they put ya' on was brakes. I used to say if you can't do brakes ya can't do anything. Really, brakes are very simple. I'm 65, I still remember reading a a '50s era shop class book on brakes. I was maybe in my teens?, it didn't say anything about asbestos. Now I have asthma, COPD, & asbestosis. Nowadays it is mostly disk brakes, even easier. The brakes ain't the problem, having the car fall on you is bad. I knew a guy working on his own brakes, car fell, crushed his hands. You can learn to do it, if you want to. Just ask some one who knows. Reminds me I got to google "how to re-glue a shaving brush". I've had my 02 Crown Vic since 06. I confess it's only got 137k miles on it. Still gets 23 miles to the gallon at 80 mph. I've replaced the brakes once, and done the sparkplugs and coils. The only "Major" problem I've had with mine is the automatic heater control. Major pain in the derrier to replace, the WHOLE dash has to come out. Yes I'm subscribed and notifications on.

I bought one from the NC highway patrol about a decade ago, had 90k on it, about 3 years old. Very reliable, zero issues other than standard maintenance. I ended up getting rid of it because of all the drama in having a car that looks like a cop car and I was just tired of it, but one of the best cars I've ever had. I may get another some day, they are getting long in the tooth for people to freak out when they see one on the road now.

My 2011 Crown Vic has been a wonderful family car. My sons are big football players and there is plenty of room for them. The trunk is huge & I can fit almost 600LBS worth of 40 LB bags of wood pellets for the stove.I live in Boston & to prevent rust Every year I spray the undercarriage with Fluid Film and it looks like brand new underneath. Thanks to President Trump gas is less than $2/gal so I don't care that it only gets 15MPG around town on trips to New Hampshire it gets close to 25MPG. The car is heavy & I have had to replace the front brake pads every 18 months so far it has been the most reliable car I have owned.

I have owned a couple Lincoln Town cars with the 4.6 liter engine. ‘93 and a ‘95. Bd you are right. The engines and transmissions in those cars just keep going like the energizer bunny. Did have a spark plug blow out of its hole on the ‘95, and you are right it was a cheap and easy fix. I would not buy a former police or taxi Crown Vic though. The police do not sell them until they are pretty much at the end of useful life. So if you buy one get ready to do a lot of heavy line work on it. A much better bet would be to get a Lincoln or a Marquis driven by grandpa until his kids took away the keys. The best ones are the ones that still have the air suspension. Though those are hard to find.

I bought 1997 Crown Vic well over 10 years ago with 106K miles on it. It already had the upgraded intake on it. I believe mine was an unmarked unit and was taken out of service because it was ramped (I found gravel lodged in between the front bumper cover and the skid guard). I have been very happy with it, even though some of the common problems have turned up on it. Thing is, it had regular maintenance while in service and it is still running strong now coming up on 200K. One problem you forgot to mention in this video is weak fuel pumps (not really a Ford problem)...doesn't really seem to matter who manufactures them either. The type of fuel pumps these use and having to remove the tank to replace them gets to be a bit old after a while, but I wouldn't trade it for a newer vehicle with their problems and harder to fix. I'll stick with my rear-wheel drive, body on frame design...thanks. This tank will still be around while many other "modern" cars have been carted off to the graveyards.

my 98 F150 had this engine at 93k miles oil leaked from head was known problem as metal shavings were left between block/gasket/head during manufacturing. I put a bottle of stop-leak in it which fixed it then sold it. It was a KNOWN problem.

We had a '98 Grand Marquis that was awesome, I loved it. My spouse traded it in at a stealership for $500 with only 62K because the upper control arm bushings on both sides squeaked, an easy fix. I was not happy.

Hello, Iman; Cool video, "Thanks!". I have a '08 P71, I love it, yeah, they have some issues but what brand/model doesn't, right? It did spit a plug, my mechanic took care of it, he's a pretty good dude, & a real old-school mechanic. I had the trans rebuilt, it had started slipping & had some codes showing. The mileage got a little better after the trans rebuild, but not enough to pay for itself. It has some "Dark Mode" thing, I thought about taking it to the dealer to get it out of 'dark mode'. But I found out the sheriff's dept had hacked up the wires in the drvr door & under the dash. I haven't figured it out, & may not ever, I'm disabled w/ breathing problems so I can only do so much. I would like to wire up some under-dash red LEDs for night entry & a red LED in the ticket light. I need another OEM wheel for a spare (WHY are all the spares gone?) & the paint is crap. But it is a good 'ole car. The wife had 2 fender-benders, 1st creased the p-side rear-1/4 & 2nd dented/tore the rr bumper cover. About once a year the coolant needs to be topped up―any idea where that little leak could be? I like your videos (watch Scotty, too) & appreciate you sharing your experience. That Vic you talked about sounds good, down south here they all want an arm & a leg for junkers. Can you guess what they want for a good one? I'd like to get a '11 or '12 but I'm on disability so it don't look like rain, IYKWIM. Thanks again, Iman, & keep up the good work. Have a GREAT day, Neighbor!

I love my ‘04 Grand Marquis which almost fell into my lap in Oct ‘19 with 165k miles. I knew when up front that the catalytic converters were toast. I had the dreaded “cat rattle,” sounded like rocks banging around the exhaust. I ordered direct fit cats (all 4) off eBay for almost $300, and a local shop installed them. Now it is quiet, runs great, and gets 18 city/ 26 hwy. This car was a great buy at $!1800! I plan on keeping this MGM a long time.

Tip: my Chilton auto repair manual (for a Chevy) suggests letting an engine cool down before changing spark plugs. Engines made of aluminum have a softer density than the steel threads on a spark plug. I imagine most jiffy lube places will not wait to cool an engine, but rush thru it. That also can affect the performance of the new plugs, which happened to me immediately after leaving the shop. I had to return it for a redo.

My ( late ) cousin was a cop in Cook Cty., Il. His duty squad was always a Crown Vic. He also drove his boss' car which was an original He must have logged a million + miles in those Fords. He wrecked the 'Whale Tail' chebby when he was code 3 to a fatal shooting. 1 of his fellow deputies had gotten shot in his foot during a raid on a crack house. If only cars could talk! I agree , damn good car. I have a 2008 Grand Marquis. As mentioned around town the MPG sucks , like 14mpg. But on the highway its a very respectable 24-26 mpg. And thats at 70-80 mph. I bought used with a little over 100k miles awhile back. The only issue is the rack and pinion steering is prone to leaking. Records show it was changed at least once prior to my ownership. I changed it the second time soon after buying. It leaks again and Im not changing again. For me its a very minor , slow drip , enough to leave a spot on the driveway , but not so much to be annoying. So either this car is prone to this issue or prone to very bad luck.

I have four Lincoln Town Cars with over 400,000 mi with the original engine and transmission so great video and said correct I've had every problem with these I won't probably about 10 of them in the last 10 years but police interceptors are the best but the Lincoln Town Car has also been able to told a lot of heavy duty service.

I have 4 of these cars. My 2011 town car long wheelbase gets an average of 21mpg between city and highway. My 2003 mercury grand marquis averages 23. If I do highway driving only I can get up to 28 when I try, otherwise I get about 26 with all of them on long distance highway driving.

As someone who daily drives a mercury grand marquis, i get 24mpg at 73mph and it's comfortable.. that said these aren't new cars, so expect repairs, i paid 3k for the car and have 3k in parts in it. It's bulletproof reliable, but mine is 12 years old. The intake issue occurs on all of them. Even with the aluminum coolant crossover, they split in the rear too.. it's a pain in the ass to fix, but the parts are cheap. The spark plug issue only happens on the triton v8 not the same heads on the panther platform. Other things to look at, rust.. they are body on frame, and the frame is channeled into the body, they rot in salt areas, misfires are common, ignition coils are expensive, and Fords maintenance log says they should be replaced every100k along with the water pump, transmission fluid and filter, fuel filter, plugs, and rear diff fluid. It's about a 700.00 service to do yourself.

I'd go for the 2008-12 Lincoln Town Car because their owners would be older private folks or white-collar businesses (chauffeured). The cars will be maintained and many records would likely come with the car. Also, the Town Cars came with tres chic' alloy wheels! If lower gas mileage is acceptable (14-22 mpg) ... in another decade a pristine Lincoln of this series will be "special interest," same as older Caddies and Lincs are today.

I have CV Sport and Marauder. Great cars had all the problems u mentioned in the Vic. Did not have catalytic converter problem.

The only difference between the civilian 4.6L 2V and the CVPI P71/P7B 4.6L 2V is the 200 amp alternator, slightly higher idle speed (840 RPM), revised emission calibration in the ECM, better flowing air box with an 80mm MAF (2003+), better flowing zip tube (2006+), revised transmission shift points, and slightly higher transmission pressures . The aforementioned differences are the reason the civilian dual exhaust Panther is rated at 239 hp while the CVPI is rated at 250 hp. The cylinder heads, camshaft, etc are the same as the civilian models. Fuel economy in stop and go driving even with the higher gears (3.27 or 3.55), still sucks at about 12-14 MPG. On the highway, they really shine with 25+ MPG possible.

HD everything in the cvpi's from springs sway bars on along with the oversize radiator and fan, PS cooler, oil cooler lines, thick azz brake pads, extra 2" clearance and solid steel skid plates if lucky and you like to catch air.

I'd charge two to three hours on a blown spark plug job, and blown out spark plugs wasn't too common on 4.6 liters however it was very common on 5.4 liters on trucks in my experience.

The Best car I have ever owned, was a 97 Crown Vic, drove it for 18 years. Had to put him down because the winter road salt finally ate the frame and it was no longer safe to drive. It was a sad day when it left my house on a flatbed truck to his final resting place.

LoL I just bought my 2010 Crown Vic PI because of a prior vid you did recommending them. I like/love it. I don't love/LOVE it yet, but I will. The wound is still too new for me bcuz I'm coming from my truck to this. I will never love anything as much as my DuraMax. I have a 04 GMC Sierra 2500. It's very strange to now have to look for a gas car and the issues they have. I can tell you about my Duramax and its issues that the LB7 motor has with injectors, and the head gasket & the water pump and the pump rub issue with the transfer case. But of all the cars I have ever owned, I have NEVER loved any of them as much as I love my truck. But one day there was a strange sound when I started her up and I was told catastrophic engine failure was the diagnosis! I literally felt like I could not breath and I thought I was gonna pass out! $12,000.00 $15,000.00 for a new motor. So I walk by my truck everyday to my cvpi for now. For me I remembered details I learn about my diesel motor but gas motors, in one ear and out the other. But everybody makes comments on power and mileage - I would take my truck over the CVPI. It's a 6.6 liter V8 Turbo and its a 3/4 ton and I could avg 19-20 in town and 24-26 on hwy. Once you have that and just the awesomeness of the turbo whistle, Uhhh.... I never want anything else. But I do like my crown vic and im glad i ran across your channel,and GOOD LORD WHO KNEW THEY WERE SUCH A THING! Its a community of it's own :)

Your power specs are for the 2003 Crown Victoria Police Interceptor. The 2004+ versions of the CVPI are rated at 250 and 297. The dual exhaust LX Sport is rated at 235 and 287 (same as the 2001, 2002 CVPI), the 2001+ single exhaust LX along with the MGM are rated at 224 and 272.
