How about a video about most reliable cars (and later, trucks, then SUVs) for UNDER $10,000. I think $10,000 is an amount that gets you a more modern vehicle but is still below the budget of being able to afford a brand new vehicle. That would be a great series!
@farshadrabbani7 жыл бұрын
Haha no worries man. I want to know because I live in Belize and vehicles are brought from the US and they are incredibly expensive unless they are used or crashed vehicles. 1 USD is 2 BZD so buying a new vehicle is not practical and then we pay about 70% or thereabouts for duty!
@UnkleAL19627 жыл бұрын
great idea I lived by that theory for years...I would buy a $10,000 vehicle and take a 5 year loan and payments were around $200/month making it affordable on a tight budget, then usually still had something to sell and start over with another $10k vehicle

Ive owned the 92 Tercel and 96 SL1. Youre spot on with the analysis. The 96 SL1 once it got to like 100k miles started making a high pitched whine that couldnt be diagnosed but I got my use out of it. I appreciate your work in outlining the good/bad/ugly of various car model years. VERY helpful in finding new vehicles when time.
@rightlanehog31517 жыл бұрын
Judging by what has survived on the roads around here, I would take the Tercel or Civic. For younger folks with low budgets, you have to be REALLY careful when shopping in this price category. There are very few cars worth buying at this price point. Even if the engine/transmission are good there are a vast amount of other components that quickly become prohibitively expensive to replace. When the cost of the repairs EXCEEDS the value of the car, it is time to get ANOTHER car. My advice is to shop in the 3-5K range where there will be approximately 20 times more cars worth buying in your local market. BTW I aint too smart. I figured all this out the painful, expensive way by WASTING lots of hard-earned money paying to repair worn out, old cars ;)

have a 97 SL2 still runs, never had any engine work, just AC problem, and electric fan issue. only mechanical work I had done was the belt tensioner, had that replaced but mechanic left one bolt off the alternator, hitting a bump cracked the mount which is part of the block, everyone said I had to replace the engine. looked around online, and found some welding rods that they use in the airplane industry for welding aluminum, I welded it myself, and have had no problem since.

Back in 2000, I bought my son an '88 volvo 740. It was the non turbo and I think it had the 2.3L . I know it was an I-4. Great engine and transmission. Very adequate power, smooth, easy to work on, durable and pretty good fuel economy, too.
