I understand his issue with homophobia in the black community. It's a real issue. But his throwaway statement "I walked in and saw nothing but black women and children is what should really concern people. I thought I was at the welfare office". We're not the only ones there. Idk about anyone else but that speaks volumes to me on how he sees the majority of black women. From Monster's Ball to Precious to The Butler and even Shadowboxer. I don't have a problem with certain portrayals but there's an uneven balance in what he pushes. Hes the anti-Shonda. It's just entertainment ain't always the answer.

VOLUMES! That comment about black women and welfare just so easily slid out his mouth like it was nothing. Thanks for pointing out all those movies he did. I was only aware of Precious & Butler. But now I see a pattern for sure. He has an agenda and I refuse to support such an agenda. And the Nazis' propaganda was often labelled as just 'entertainment' also.

That's why he made a scene in Empire with the one boy walking down the steps with red pumps on, and he got severely beaten and thrown in the trash. That's a scene in the show from his own lived experience.

Okay yes I remember that scene I remember that scene when I first clicked on to this interview and he said that I said wait a minute I heard that somewhere before good call , now I just read before that did the cast member on that show just got assaulted by two white guys sprayed with some kind of chemical and put a noose around his neck I'm not a gay fan at all but I'm not a big fan of anyone putting their hands on anyone in any matter Troublesome times

I agree with +Sasha Fiers. I was feeling bad for him until he made the comment that he thought he had walked into a welfare office because it was nothing but black women and their kids. That was a disgustingly ugly representation of black women and it was extremely offensive. It's bad enough that the world makes them the poster children for welfare, so for someone of the same race to say that about them, only feeds the ignorance. If people would do their research they would know that the majority of people on welfare are whites. And being homophobic is not synonymous with blacks. He doesn't like people generalizing against gay people, then he shouldn't do that to black people either; makes no difference if he's black himself.

I knew I was gay when I was 5, growing up as a middle-class white boy. For me too, my family, church, teachers, parents, friends, and work "said it." said that I couldn't come out. Does that make me black? I agree that POC have a harder time coming out than white people-- I'm just saying that Mr Daniels doesn't really seem to understand why.

You're right at 5 a child doesn't know high heels are "meant for women only" in this society and could've been just playing around yet still got beat by his father. A gay male child is traumatized by that father's stupidity and prejudice, even though he thinks it was the right thing to do. I knew I was gay that early too and had already experienced being called names and gay-slurs, being around mostly male cousins, brothers. It IS worse with black people but Daniels is a little offensive here.
