Beautiful dogs. We had two growing up. Lather and Kylee. Amazing, loyal, protective, sweet, all around amazing. Grew up on 15 acres of land, and we had a neighbor across the way, their two black labs would get lose and run to our property. Kylee was around 9 or 10 years old when they ran right at me one day, and when I tell you she growled and asserted her dominance and scared these two labs away by herself!! It was amazing. I always felt so protected by her. I miss her

A few Pyrenees and A few Anatolian working the same flock/herd together is nature's finest security team! They are both guardian breeds but they do their jobs very differently. The white dogs, (the Pyrenees, Maremma and there's one other that looks identical to them.. I just can't pull the name out of my head). The white dogs don't usually leave their charges to give chase on a predator....but the Anatolians and a few breeds with the same drives will leave the flicks unguarded to give Chase and typically don't stop until one of them is dead. This makes them the perfect security team for guarding any piece of property, animals, kids, cats you-name-it belgard it and they will work out a pecking order that they work together it's so beautiful!! I love seeing people like you getting back to how things were always meant to be. Back before medieval times & all that, humans learned to live with most predators instead of hunting them to Extinction. Good on ya!

Please those of you who DONT KNOW THE BREED! do NOT get one of these dogs unless you are ready for the good and the bad!! We love our pyrs. But they shed, they bark A LOT. They do not take orders. They are huge, and eat a lot. They are not friendly to people outside their family. There are so many homeless pyrs because people buy them as cute puppies
@WafflesNPotholes3 жыл бұрын
If your pyr doesn’t follow obedience commands, it hasn’t been properly trained. If its aggressive to strangers, it hasn’t been socialized properly.
@hmmmhmmm61783 жыл бұрын
@@WafflesNPotholes It's a bit more nuanced than that. Pyrs and LGDs in general are incredibly stubborn and independent-thinking; while they might be able to follow commands, often enough there will be situations where you'll need to repeat a command several times and sometimes they just won't listen even with a proper training. They aren't always too friendly to strangers especially on their own territory, but they'll behave mostly fine outside their territory - though they're not a Lab and will be mostly uninterested in other people when outside their territory. They can be aggressive to strangers when protecting their land and the stranger didn't follow the rules how to behave infront of such a dog, biting is something very rare though. Many people just ignore those characteristics and just adopt a GP because they look so fluffy, but more often they forget that those are working dogs - even the show dogs reflect this mentality of a working dog - also training is a bit more difficult if you have no experience with LGD. Those dogs are not modern, urban-friendly dogs, those dogs are archaic - which some people sadly forget, so consequentially lots of GPs end up mistreated or abandoned.
@vihaze67253 жыл бұрын
Yep, there are too many idiots who go 'Ooh! A fluffy white puppy!' and do absolutely no research into the breed or their requirements before they get one. It's not just a giant white Golden Retriever, guys. It's a working dog.

If you are looking for a GP on the east coast (or even not) I would highly recommend Impyrial Great Pyrenees. They aren’t cheap, but they have some of the best pyrs between health, temperament, features, and stature. Our pyr Charlie is a guard dog and a farm dog - he stays inside with us and helps our shepherd guard the house. He’s the most gentle giant ever, until he goes into guard mode. These dogs are intense powerhouses - don’t let their fluff and laziness fool you. I’d say the only dogs that could match their ferocity would be Caucasians and Kangals.

My neighbors down the street back in my old house had a Great Pyrenees named Hugo. Big furry guy, seemed friendly the few times I saw him. He was big but he was built more like a lion in that he was longer than he was taller and had a deep booming bark. Pyrenees are the sweetest dogs but they are dumb as box of rocks! They have the scariest bark. It will rattle the windows and that’s when they are outside! My sister had one named Beauregard, BoBo for short, and he would jump on the hood of visitors cars hood. We had several people call and ask if they could come inside or if it was safe to get out of the car lol. After ordering a few pizzas we were cut off from delivery because everyone was scared to get out of their car. “I promise he won’t hurt you, he’s a big baby!” “Your baby is a 7’ white grizzly bear!” A family friend has two pet Pyrenees and they have a full couch that only they are allowed to use, covered in white hair. True working Pyrenees shouldn’t be touched more than necessary and should live, eat, and think they are one of the sheep.
