Zeke kudos to you for not trying to bulk Roscoe up too much. He looks great and well proportioned. Most of all he looks healthy. A lot of people seem to be into these thick, borderline obese dogs. But my wife did grow up with a German Shepherd. I do wonder if I am ready for the challenge of a Rottweiler. Your videos make me want to take that leap.

Emma good point! You can teach the dog to resist as well as yield to the leash. Used in different situations. In this episode we want the dog to stay on the place and using the leash to solidify that a little more.

@corymarinan29963 жыл бұрын
I agree with Emma. There are plenty of better ways to tempt the dog to break the place command so that you can reinforce it, ones where you don't have to contradict training the dog to respond to leash pressure. So many dog owners struggle to get their dogs to follow the leash. Why undermine that training???

@marybowman48474 жыл бұрын
You can use anything for a "place". It just helps them to get it faster if it's elevated. (Like a cot or elevated mattress/bed) but it doesn't have to be elevated. Place could just be a folded up blanket, a towel, crate pan, even a upside-down bucket/bowl or frisbee as a "touch pad"/"place". Using a smaller round place rather than a bed type place can be beneficial for future training like pivoting around in place etc.
@barronsamson14354 жыл бұрын
I see how using leash pressure reinforces the command. How do you recommend useing leash pressure to teach a dog to walk on a loose leash?
@dropdead30044 жыл бұрын
From what I have seen in another video, you dont really want tension on the leash but you want to shorten your grip on it. Your gonna have a shorter grip on it with no tension, this will keep the dog at your side to insure that your walking them and that they aren't walking you. Eventually with time the dog will learn to walk alongside with you without you having hold the leash with a short grip. Hope this helps in some way. :)

@Lucy-dp1dy2 жыл бұрын
because it's unnecessary command.. when you tell dog to sit it shouldn't get up until you release the dog with command.. if i use comand sit i don't want dog to stand up or run away until i say.. so using two commands sit and stay is useless and pointless because dog already knows it should stay in position

I recently purchased a ranch and I'm a big lover of Mastiff breeds. Is it possible to keep multiple Male Mastiff breeds together? I'm thinking of getting a Cane Corso, Presa Canario, Boerboel, Spanish Mastiff, Dogo Argentino and Fila Brasileiro for now. I intend to bring them up together as puppies. Please let me know if it is possible to keep these males together?
@ToRo909r4 жыл бұрын
Dom if they grow up together it should be fairly easy. I have multiple males and have them together, they get along fine. It’s socialization that does the trick.

Talk to the breeders! The temperaments of the parents and other relatives will vary a little even within a breed and can give you some helpful clues as to how your puppy will behave during puberty and in adulthood. Are you planning on neutering or keeping them intact?
@hds_114 жыл бұрын
@@emmamemma4162 I would prefer not to neuter them but from what I've researched, lot of the aggression goes away but there's still a strong possibility that male dogs will fight or god forbid kill each other. This is what all the articles and blogs say but then I've watched few videos on KZbin where people have been successful in keeping male dogs together but I've not come across any video where they deal with the breeds that I'm hoping to get.
@emmamemma41624 жыл бұрын
@@hds_11 I know lots of people that keep intact male dogs together and they never fight, but often they are pack dog breeds, which really makes a difference. If you want to be sure of your males not being sexually aggressive, you should go for early neutering, but that will also affect the growth and possibly health of your dog. It's a difficult decision to make! When talking to breeders, ask if they have more than one intact male and how the males behave when a bitch is in heat. I would consider not having quite as many dogs at once. Mastiffs do not have the longest life-spans so perhaps you could get other breeds when your first dogs pass away.

Hi, justva question, how many times a week should I train my dog and how long should traning session be?
@TrusTz014 жыл бұрын
train everyday, before feeding, don't take too long, i think it depends on the dog, if they like it then continue, but if they are bored then stop. i usually train only about 5-10 minutes, but everyday. so repetition is the key so the dog remembers.
@Chartisttrader4 жыл бұрын

@Chartisttrader4 жыл бұрын

@marybowman48474 жыл бұрын
Keep training sessions short. Especially at first. Think 5 mins several times a day. Individual sessions can increase as training progresses and you can hold their attention longer. They will let you know when it is too much by "checking out" but it is best to end the session before that while they are still engaged to keep momentum and engagement. Always try to end on a positive, fun note.

My 3 month Bullmastiff doesn’t bark at strangers in fact starts playing and loving everyone equally, what to do ? How to teach him who’s who?
@emposse83354 жыл бұрын
At such a young age that's exactly how you want him to be reacting to new people, he needs lots of socialization and positive experiences. :) You don't want him to ever be afraid or suspicious of strangers. As he gets older (once you're sure he's totally comfortable with anyone and everyone) you can teach him a "speak" command and then practice having people come to the door and ask him to speak for a reward, but stopping once you decide to let them in. That way you're controlling how much he barks, teaching him when to bark, and still preserving that positive association with people so that when you let someone in, he isn't still barking or skittish. Dogs who just naturally bark at strangers as "guard" dogs usually do so out of fear, and continue to be fearful even when their owner chooses to let the person come near them or into the house, and this fear can easily turn into aggression. Hope this helps!

Im sorry if this is a dumb question but wat exactly is duration nd distance training for?
@brianagordon8463 жыл бұрын
I think it's for if u bring your dog to a park or a soccer game for example and you don't want them jumping up and running after things or random people, some people would probably rather just hold their leash to prevent them from doing that but a well-trained dog would be able to stay calm and follow directions without the leash. I'm assuming
@corymarinan29963 жыл бұрын
Duration= how long the dog will hold the position. Distance= how far away from the dog you can go without them breaking the place command. The longer you make the dog hold it and the further you move away, the harder it is for the dog to stay in place.
