I had a rottweiler and he was 130 - 140lbs. Looking at Luca, I realy like his smaller, more agile frame. I would like to see that body type become a more common option when it comes to rottweilers. I think it greatly improves the dog. All the great qualities and stopping power of a rottweiler with the agility and speed of a malinois. I use to have a hard time getting my rottie into the car. Had to pick up his hind legs. Also saw some one else with a rottie doing the same thing. Luca's athletic but with the stopping power of a heavy weight. There's no way my rottie could run and jump like that. I exercise him a lot and he never had the speed or jumping ability Luca has. Thats cool! Awsome dog!

Well, generally I agree that any dog needs to be kept in good shape. But, standard weight of rottie is around 110lbs and this was historically due to the dogs purpose... The fact that dog sport (namely the speed and precision aspect) changes requirements recently, means that you'll get more lighter rotties with faster reflexes and reactions... Question is - are we changing now what the standards are? There are 2 main branches of breeding - sport and dog show, the second suits the standard more. I'm for the sport option too BTW. So peace 😉

Excellent vid - I’m a ROTT Lover ,have four now , momma and three of her pups 1 male and two females. Taking classes to be a trainer now. Was wondering what the difference was between these breeds. Thanx for pointing them out . I must say, since I have really started getting involved with the training etc. I am very impressed with the malonois breed and their agility. Had a Rott for my dog most of 27-30yrs. Just as a companion or pet dog . Nice to hear someone who knows- you have to be a positive trainer not so much a compulsive trainer or they WILL let you know ,they do tend to push back if they feel like they’re being unjustly punished or you didn’t give them enough time to understand what you were asking. Awesome comparison. The Rottweiler May be the calmer all around but they are still not for the inexperienced or someone who is not willing to give them a bunch of their time

soooo nice that you don't strictly stay on the sport side but you work real scenarios as well, I wish all trainers would do the same and protection dogs would explode in to the whole new world. Sport training ONLY, leads to the a potential that vary from true guard and defence dog to a dog that ONLY pretends guarding and defense and THE ONLY THING CARES ABOUT IS TO PLAY WITH A RUG SLEEEVE And flight away when a real threat appears. Going in to realistic scenarios though will ensure that the dog NOT ONLY HAS THE DRIVES(defense, fight, courage, confidence) REQUIRED FOR GUARD AND PROTECT JOB but also is trained how to deal better with it. Once again good for you my friend.

ok i have had rottweilers for the past 30 years and think that they are the best dog ever however when using them in this type of environment and even with giving them supplements for their bones and joints they will get problems earlier rather than later ..with either arthritis or their joints causing them to put on weight because of lack of exercise.. that are in a lot of pain so drastically cuts their life expectancy ...if they are to have a healthy life a more subtle pace is better for them although I'm not saying dogs don't enjoy what you're doing they really do !!! I have been working recently with 3 belgian mallanoise and they are really a superior dog as they last much longer are generally more fit intelligent and loyal I think what you have done with all you're dogs is fantastic good luck with them

Thanks for your honesty about the not so flattering points about the Rottweilers. One certainly needs to be on their toes around a Rott. It is only cos of this temperament characteristic of a Rott that I am very apprehensive about getting one. It seems that their stubbornness is a point of concern and once they see something they wanna go after, they just can't seem to hear your stop command. Btw that's one fit Rott! I prefer a smaller, agile and strong to a huge, slow one.
