Wow! I'd forgotten all about this series! I shall now look forward to watching it here, after I've finished watching 'Shoestring' on YT . . . Aren't the oldies the best?! ☺

Gosh, Gary Holton at 3.30 in a similar guise to his character Wayne in Auf Wiedersehen Pet!

Can't believe this was filmed while McManus was on Taggart. Switching from video to film for only several episodes must have been quite a change for him.

Out of curiosity, I had a look at the first Taggart episode. IMO he was the best thing about it, as otherwise it was sadly lacking the quirk factor you get in Strangers and Bulman. I guess they were chasing a more mainstream audience.

@FoogouFilms And yet they succeeded. Hard to believe they decided to continue the series even after he passed.

@valerieHamilton-wt3jf Yes, I spotted it. No other TV detective had so many quirks, then or since!

In case there are any auto heads wondering, the old American SUV the bad guy is driving is a Jeep Cherokee, which was really based on the Jeep SJ Wagoneer that came out in the early sixties. I don't think these were sold in the UK (but please correct me if there was a market for them in England), so this one shown here must have been privately shipped from the States. Interesting to note: This actual design of the Wagoneer lasted for almost 30 years up until the early 1990's.

I really like those Chrokees. Used to see them everyone only a few years ago, but I guess many have rusted away in the unforgiving damp UK climate. Love the look of those old Wagoneers with the fake wood on the sides - they were probably special import in the UK. Have never seen one in the flesh. I think they were probably really expensive if they were available, what was usually the case, especially when the Range Rover came out - they were comparitively underpriced for years. Jeep have kind of lost the way more recently in that they now seem too complex and have compromised that dependable reputation they once had.

@FoogouFilms Probably because they are now aligned with Fiat, since they have long been part of the Chrysler group. They're not really all that dependable, from what I've been hearing.

@@johndrake2729 Yeah, that seems to be borne out by what an American friend of mine was saying when he was looking into getting a new Wrangler. Though even Honda and Toyotas these days are getting more compromised due to their newer vehicles becoming too complicated. A sweet spot may have been the 90s when reliability in general was much improved, also rustproofing, but not too much tech to go wrong. Just my POV.

@@FoogouFilms I love Toyotas.

Odd little pilot, this. Several scenes of this featured snow, so I'm guessing this was filmed in late 1984 or early '85.
@FoogouFilms4 ай бұрын
Just trying to think back if that was a cold one or not. 1981-82 was the really snowy one.
