I was also thinking maybe the logo was a mfg defect? How could that ever make it into production? But if it's an accurate repro from the 70's then it's AOK. :) Pretty cool that they even repro'd the logo the same actually. Love the polish , jubilee bracelet and the cheesy connected logo , and everything else . Maybe a fancier miyota , but , not so sure why my watch needs to be able to hack ? Great review. Beautiful watch, but I think they cut too many corners for this price point. The lower level movement, the stamped clasp and the non-hacking surprise me if they are charging $750+.

Just bought the blue and orange version. I’ve obsessed over this watch since it came out. The logo doesn’t bother me one bit. Dunno why all the fuss, but to each their own.

Great review. Another channel spoke about this watch and came to the same conclusion. The original Devil Diver was a 40mm case with an in-house Automatic movement. On the original the Logo had the connectors painted black to match the dial so it looked like separate letters. They should have used the Miyota 9015 movement. It would of made the price seem more justifiable. There is a lot out there for that price. You can also get 2 Seiko turtles for that. The DOXA that you mentioned looks like a an awsome watch from what other reviewers have said and from what I read about it. Those beeds-of-rice bracelets are supposed to be very comfortable. I believed Jacques Cousteau wore one at a point. I would like to get one but they apart at over $2,000. Once again, great review

I have finally given in and ordered mine. The logo was the issue I just couldn't get over how bad it is looks, however You have to understand that that logo is period accurate. Therefore it has been added to my Bulova collection.

I have 2 Bulova models and like them a lot.. Especially my Accu Swiss Chronograph.. But this is overpriced for the spec... I snagged the Swiss made Swiss 28800 Bph. movement at 300 bucks...Keeps perfect time and looks so elegant.. With a Champagne dial... I also like my Bulova Acutron Compressor . Sapphire and white dial... Accurate to 1 second a year...

Great watch good review, only thing I would disagree with is your thoughts on the hacking issue, outside of using a watch for nasa missions timing rocket burn intervals or some sort of James bond spy action it’s a perfectly useless function, nothing in normal everyday life requires that, I have a time sensitive job but even that never requires the need to setting the watch to the second.

Great review. Total disappointment. $750 ? Even the box is cheap looking. Miyota 8215, a $25 movement in a $750 watch, I don't think so. Too bad because they could have sold a ton of these for about $250. Oh well there's always next year.

Excellent review Maverick. I saw the Green colorway version the other day that looked fantastic. I also agree with you about the Limited 40mm Orange version, it's the better offering. Here is my grading for this watch: Design: "A", (overall a very accurate re-interpretation, I also love those indices) Movement: "D", man, they should have done better at this price point... even Seiko is replacing all their old 7s36's with 4R36's for hacking & handwinding. Sizing: "C", Totally agree... the sweet spot for this watch would be that 40 mm, the large threshold would be 42 mm . this is not the early 2000's ! LOL. I do give Bulova credit for at least paying attention to re-introducing some of their vintage models.... I think their plethora of "fashion" watches at the Mall has tarnished their image to watch enthusiasts over the past few decades. They turned me off to the brand. Eventually, I was lured back in by their Bulova 96B229 UHF Military Watch , which is based on their Military A-11 watches. I think this one was based on the early 1960's edition. I also really dislike Quartz movements, but I found the UHF movement super interesting and really admire the smooth sweeping hand and it's accuracy to within 10 seconds per year. Amazing.

I noticed the lume isn’t the same as on mine. I have the blue face version and there is a little lume pip on the right of the date window. Yours doesn’t appear to have that.

Love the look, that bracelet looks like it’s the exact one used on the older Speedmaster reduced. Also it needs a better movement. The movement is a deal breaker for me.

I've seen this in person and I really like it, but what kills it for me are the cheap plasticky hour markers, I guess it's just me. Bulova should update their model line bec the majority are rediculous fashion watch-level. Bulova can do better.

The review stated the bracelet uses screw pins. Correction: I just sized one of these and split pins are used. They do look like screw pins at first glance.

I change watches everyday, there's no need for it to sync up to anything in my opinion if everyday you grab a new watch and have to set it. No need for me. Yes it's an extra feature/complication, but not really important.

Hacking will match the minute hand with the second hand cycle to make it look a little more of a tool watch, no need here it's a Japan "Asian" movement, China case and bracelet with a pressed clasp. That being said it's a good beater for your money. The unique hour dot lume cylinders and the reverse Cyclops are what Bulova are known for so it's true to the Brand. Cheers

Its nice but for me Bullova are all about uhf quartz movement and apart from being less accurate it does nt hack which is not really on as you say ,Not a Seiko fan but the Turtle PADI is a much better buy at half the price .I would go for the Snorkel myself again half as much with uhf movement and a unique look .Ps good they make a 40 mm a lot of people complain thar Bulova make dinner plates nowadays .Dunno why they make all the re takes much bigger than the originals,

Agree on everything BUT the old-style logo (in one piece) type font/marker. That feature is the best! It is probably the most exact old-school move they could have chosen to do. And I think it adds an authenticity otherwise ignored and forgotten about from the olden days.

Sorry, but the problem with your theory is that the original 1960's Devil Divers, which also used a one-piece molded logo, had the connecting bits between the letters painted to match the dial. At least on my copy (1969) they are. There may be variations in production. With the bits painted they're essentially invisible without magnification. Looks much cleaner and more elegant; it's disappointing that Bulova skimped on the workmanship on the reissue to save a few bucks. IMO it's not authentic or "old school"...it's just cheap, especially on a $750 watch.

I've heard Bulova has excellent quality, especially on their ultra accurate Precisionist quartz movements (about 10 second accuracy for a whole year)! Invicta has a reputation for making big "Blingy" looking watches with average reliability.

Got these into work this wednesday just gone, and the head of my department (watches obviously!) Pulled the same things out for as it flaws, he also mentioned how slim the bracelet is, in terms of lug width, compared to the size of the main unit, which I also felt it was a little slim, but apart from that it looks a good one... still not a 699er which is the price we selling them for I think, still a good looking watch and a great throwback to divers gone by...

What the hell, now that you mention the logo, that does put me off quite a bit. It's like looking a bad crop of a logo and they didn't bother to crop it fully. They should have just gone with any other logo besides that one. The model was already a nice model, they kinda messed up with the non hacking and the logo, cmon, it's 2018 not 1972!

Hey, might be too late but i went for seiko srpa21k. I was thinking about buying certina but i noticed trashy lume (look dirty and faded hour hand) so went for seiko. And im glad. For basically half the price the lume is superior even for visibility. I like this bulova design and bracelet but i have to say seiko has superior built quality and movement. I mean for this price to not have hacking? (l just like it as a feature) seiko has it. Seikos logo is printed and pepsi bezel looks better imo.

The watch is beautiful, but its case is made of very bad steel, it is like plasticine, it is very easy to put a dent or a deep scratch. for example, if this watch and a watch from seiko are simultaneously thrown from the same height on the asphalt, then bulova received serious wounds, and seiko received only a small scratch. this watch would be perfect if it got better quality steel on the case and a movement like eta 2824 or similar. I would also like the Cyclops to have a higher magnification. 😳😊
