Good video as usual Kevin. OEM expansion tank huh? No aftermarket for you? Lol

I came really close to using an aftermarket one. Some many people have problems with them I decided to just go factory and worries.

@@KevinsEuropeanGarage Yeah, I get it. I have a mix of aftermarket and OEM parts when working on my Cayman and Cayenne. I normally get OEM when it’s electrical components and aftermarket for others. Watching your videos make me want to pick up a 996 as well. :-)

Well done Kevin. Very much appreciate learning more and more about working on my 996 by watching you. Very curious about how you remove those spark plug tubes. I am the 2nd owner of my 996 and the original owner had an encyclopedia of receipts for repairs and maintenance since he purchased the car new, but there are no receipts for plug coils or the tubes. I have already replaced the ENTIRE front and rear suspension system as it was all original. Most of it was done with my lap top in the garage and your videos Queued up on screen so A Large Thank you for that. Keep up the great work and looking forward to your next tutorial Mike

Thanks for watching Mike. I’m trying to figure out what’s a good removal technique I’ve seen a few different ways.

I sure wish I had pulled my mufflers when I did my plugs and coils. What a nightmare, especially since my car had the original style coils with the Allen head bolts.

Taking everything apart makes it so much easier. Especially when your working on the ground. I miss having a lift.

Love these videos. I have an 02 996 and also planning to do coil overs and the Gundo hack. What type of garage are you planning to bring the mufflers to in order to get the cuts and welds done? Trying to decide myself and not sure if the average mechanic would do that.. thanks!

There is a speed shop that would do it for me or any muffler shop should have no problem doing the bypass.

Hi Kevin, thank you for all your detail instructions. I have a 99 c2 also and wonder how much it cost to get the gundo hack on the mufflers?
@KevinsEuropeanGarage

I paid $260 at a local muffler shop to get mine done. Not as pretty as some other places but it gets the job done.

@KevinsEuropeanGarage

@@KevinsEuropeanGarage Kevin i saw those but the Fitment ended at 2001 996 year model. And mine is a 2003. Now knowing what i do about the 996 ( Not much) I would think they would fit my 2003 as well. But the fitment was rather specific to 1999 thru 2001. ??? So unsure if they would work?

OK so just removed my mufflers to replace my plugs and coil packs. HOLY SH-T!!! the passenger side last plug was a bitch!!!!!! I live down in the palm springs area so it was hot as well lets say HOT!! so that coupled with fighting that damn muffler bracket to get to the coil pack then the plug itself and then getting the wire connector back on the coil plug ?SH-t it was a hassle. I never want to do that again !!!!

Haha hopefully you won’t have to do that again anytime soon. I see it’s 102 out there that’s a rough day to work on anything.

@@KevinsEuropeanGarage The plugs looked outstanding, but the coil packs were original Porsche 996 items. So yep Hopefully not EVER again. That is something I don't mind paying to have done :)

Kevin looking to replace my mufflers and exhaust manifolds while I have the mufflers off to replace tubes, coil packs and plugs. Question... Do you know if anyone makes a kit to replace the notoriously fragile exhaust manifold bolts with new Studs and then applying copper nuts?? I have seen it done, but no idea who makes the parts Thanks Mike

Hey Mike Rennbay has what your looking they don't specifically have a kit for the 996. They have the specs on the web site you could match it up. I'm not what the specs are. I was planning on changing my headers eventually. I really like the Soul Performance one, what you thinking of using?
