Hey Rodney, have you hooked squid while salmon fishing in saltwater?
@FishingwithRod6 жыл бұрын
No. It's unlikely that would happen. For squid fishing, you gotta use jigs specially designed for them.

Hey Rod, I'm headed down to the west coast is august on a charter for salmon. I'm nervous of the whole sea sickness thing. Do you have any tips to avoid getting sick? Great content btw! Cheers

natural gravel the night before, and morning. and ive also heard cotton in the ears helps from an old timer sailor, maybe its worth a try

Your videos got me so pumped up to try an ocean adventure. I booked an all day adventure out of Sooke for Halibut. 2 hours in and I had to throw in the towel. I won't be taking the ginger Gravol again. Now I have no desire to go out ever. What do you do to prepare for boat rides?

what is this rod and reel set up called, and why this vs spinning gear?
@Broxty6 жыл бұрын
Ben H mooching rod. It's used heavily in Canada because it makes it more of a fight. We call the reels knuckle dusters because they smash your hands if not ready.
@benh57746 жыл бұрын
Broxty thanks, nothing like a good hand smashing to keep you on your toes
@FishingwithRod6 жыл бұрын
It's a mooching setup. The reel is a single action reel, 1 to 1 retrieval. You can certainly use a spinning reel or level wind reel for this fishery, there's nothing wrong with that, but this is the preferred setup on the West Coast of BC because the fight is quite a bit more exciting. You have to be constantly engaged and watch where the fish are going.

I'd love to see a quick tour of their little processing plant with the cool vacuum packer you teased at the end... I'm sure Murphy's wouldn't mind showing it off as a bit of advertising, they look like a hardcore modern full service outfit.
@FishingwithRod6 жыл бұрын
Last year was the first year this fish processing and packaging was set up. When we return this year, we'll make an effort to document it a bit more thoroughly. The staff who work in there are really busy with so many fish coming through each day so we were trying not to get in their way. :)

I would recommend wearing an elastic band on your wrist . This helps with the pain of sea sickness

Sugary sodas like 7-Up with no caffeine works well. None of that sugar substitute chet. I'm still eating fillets from our 2014 fishing trip in Alaska!

I rarely feel ill actually. Even that particular evening it was very brief. By the time the last two fish were being caught, I was fine again (otherwise there wouldn't be anyone holding the camera).

Nice video but...why anyone would want to fish with those ridiculous mooching reels is beyond me.
@FishingwithRod5 жыл бұрын
Certainly you can use a levelwind for this fishery, but on the West Coast our preference are the single action mooching reels because it's a lot more challenging and exciting when fighting the fish. :)
