8:47 Big T came to my dad, Big Mello’s house to get help with writing the book to this song! My younger brother and I was in the living room watching Dragon Ball Z. It had to have been between 4:45-5pm because middle school use to let out at 3:15 and I would get dropped off at my aunts by 4pm and hope that my parents would pick me up to be home in time to watch DBZ at 4:30. Anyways, Big T bangs on the burglar bar gate on the front door and says “say Mello, you got a minute I got something I want you to hear”. My dad tells my brother and I to go in our room and play the game but we was mad because we didn’t have cable in the back. (We had bootleg channel 99 tv guide channel cable in the living room lol). Later we hear them turning up singing “beeeeeeeter way, better way better way yeeeaaaaah” heard the song on the radio maybe like a month after that.

I think Bun was just being modest with that. PA is what UGK always represented. But for all intents and purposes, PA from a national standpoint is still the greater Houston area hip hop wise. ESG is technically from Louisiana. Point Blank is technically from Chicago. If you want to get super technical Missouri City is literally not Houston, and that’s where Z-Ro is from. But being reasonable, all of those rappers are basically Houston rappers.

While I think 'Still Tippin' at 3 is the right spot, I think it's cultural significance is totally understated. The only thing I can really equate it to is how "Smells Like Teen Spirit" flipped the rock genre on its head and ushered in the grunge era. "Still Tippin" brought Southern Rap to the mainstream and opened the floodgates moving forward.

The city of Houston has much love for Bun B, Pimp C and UGK 4 Life! 🤘🏾🫡 Houston helped catapult UGK to another level, BUT Bun B is from Port Arthur and not Houston. Somehow he’s always been the spokesperson for Houston instead of some of our Hometown Heroes who were born and raised here.
