Part of me would want to clean off that circuit board, but another part of me would worry about it breaking as soon as I touched it.

I’ve screwed myself plenty of times, going above and beyond. I had an operating broiler completely stop operating 2 days ago when I screwed down on transformer that someone forgot to put a screw back on it. All I did was adjust the top burners, wasn’t messing with the electrical, just tried to secure the transformer in place. Somehow the dual ignition board fried and a fuse behind the keypad popped. Took me a long while to figure out what the hell happened.

Thank you for doing some hot side work. It's so damn hard to find restaurant equipment videos that are actually worth something.
@curioushvacguy68764 жыл бұрын
Hey Storm, I agree- I dont do a ton of hotside stuff anymore and most of the time its hard to film because im right in the way and under pressure to get it done and move on-- I do have a nice fryer video im putting together so look for that in a week or three. Thanks for watching

I also worked for Burger King for about 8 years and these toasters still existed then, I sure they are still using these as of now. They are very easy to work on and didn't really have too many problems with the ones I worked on. I remember one time, one of the employees had rewire the high voltage plug because the old one got damaged and as I was standing there touching the burger board, I felt something was wrong as I felt there was current going thru the boards and I backed off, started yelling at the guy who had wired the plug that something was wrong. He went back to the toaster and was telling me it was running and everything, he went and touch the bun catcher and the next thing I saw a big spark flying and it did hit him. He was ok and went home for the night after he got shocked, so I went and checked the plug myself and he had the hot wire on the ground terminal, and the ground wire on the hot terminal. I end up fixing the plug myself and everything was back to normal. Keep in mind when the plug wired wrong, it was actually working but the unit was not fully grounded because of the rubber feet under the unit and when he grab and shook the bun catcher, it fully grounded out and trip the breaker. Oh he was ok and came to work the next day.
@curioushvacguy68764 жыл бұрын
Wow- glad he was ok because I would have laughed at him at first- but that is why you dont have just anyone work on stuff like that, because it can be dangerous. Thanks for the feedback- much appreciated

I work on these all the time. The new round up toasters don’t have the safety switch. They make a bypass switch for these toasters. It consists of a bolt and nut and wire nuts and a small zip ties.
@curioushvacguy68764 жыл бұрын
Hey Allen, its funny you should mention that I didnt know anything about the bypass kit and just recently installed a switch in place of a bolt that I assumed some maintenance guy installed when the switch broke-- learned something today- thanks
@joshh97733 жыл бұрын
Having used those toasters back in my teenage Arby’s career, that top safety switch doesn’t stop anyone from getting burned. When I hit manager I was filling out injury claims constantly. One genius employee allowed their fingers to be pulled in with one of those hard ass star buns and another tried to dislodge a bun with a knife and hit... something and got a good zap prior to GFCI outlets in the store. Also those roundup machines break constantly. We had like 3 in the back room in pieces that I Frankensteined together to get through a night.

Do you have any standouts for the nastiest kitchen equipment you've ever serviced? Also that bolt at 3:22 looks like it might need a washer like the one above it? Weird how the bottom was full of Kep nuts.
@wanderinguser76652 жыл бұрын
I worked at a McDonald's about 20 years ago that had a similarly designed bun toaster with the same issue except ours was a little different design. The safety switches were on both sides of the toaster instead of on top & both had to be depressed for the belts to turn & the heater to kick on. The removable panels were made of too thin/not reinforced enough stainless steel so they would bow out over time & then the switches would go bad with all the grease & junk in a restaurant too. Having a cheap franchise owner that liked to wait until things were 100% broken before calling for service we employed our own solution which was to hug the bun toaster when it quit working. Give it a big ol' bear hug to bend the outer panels back in enough to force the switches a little harder to either turn on or finally break so we could get it fixed again.

Interesting short little video Bill! When the chain was properly tentioned did that tighten the belts as well? I definitely do not have any experience with the hot side stuff and would like to see more videos on it from you if possible.
@curioushvacguy68764 жыл бұрын
Hey Joseph- when the chain is tightened it does nothing for the belts. To tighten the belts you need to remove a link out of the conveyor - that is a common problem on those.

Hey there- I still see these all the time, every location like this has 2 or 3 of this exact same model, Wendys as well-- I havent worked on the Franke toasters yet, how are they to work on?

Franke is our equipment supplier, we use prince castle and Antunes and they both are fairly easy to work on. I was assuming this is the same chain restaurant as mine but maybe not since you say Wendys has those too.
