Today I work through a Saturday OT call for a walk in cooler that won't go below 55°. We touch briefly on headmaster controls and try to find out where some refrigerant disappeared to. Enjoy

Good stuff brotha. Your best bet is to check the correct winter charge. Sporlan has a few tricks and equations you can use to figure it out.

Nice that you tried the non invasive approach to determine the problem. Hopefully you find a leak somewhere in the evaporator since it was way to windy to find a small leak outside.

Perfect explanation, R404 systems can be a bit sneaky,critical charge.. A little off and cooler temp. ,will rise.. The amperage .was a big clue,to undercharged., Reminds me of a couple of the R502 system days.. A few ounces makes a big difference in load.. Another great video, Bryan Tyler Refrigeration

@@curioushvacguy6876 Fan cycle switches., To be honest with you , I only ran into 1 headmaster system personally in the early 90's. Im guessing our weather here is more typical of the fan cycle switch. Whereas in colder.weather headmaster is used more. In south texas we do not get much.freezing temps.although this coming week we're supposed to get to 31* midweek.. That was a awesome explanation on that video.

If your in low ambient, maybe winter charge wasn't added?? Don't have that issue here I've ended up yanking email out in the tropics here
@curioushvacguy6876
@curioushvacguy6876 4 жыл бұрын
I think that was part of the issue there, someone may have charged it up in the summertime and didnt add the winter charge- my idea was to return and do a full thorough leak check and then add the winter charge and check the receiver level. Thanks for watching

@Dave-dr4yy 5 жыл бұрын
If the temp is getting colder it may just be you need to add the winter charge.

Hey i have a fully charged 404 walk in beer keg cooler that runs a hot liquid temp. Its all brand new and i can figure out why. Its not running as efficiently as it was with cooler temperatures outside. Takes forever to cool down.
@FireandFrostHVAC

Nice attempt at non invasive testing - I think it really only works if the system is operating properly, but if we are called out it’s likely that there’s an issue so we end up gauging up anyway.
@curioushvacguy6876
@curioushvacguy6876 4 жыл бұрын
Exactly right 404- if you didnt commission it from the beginning and if you werent the only one to touch that system then you dont have a good enough base line to really use the non invasive approach. Thanks for watching 404

In Australia it's illegal to "top up gas charge" to find the leak , you have to fully recover the gas and nitro test. Are you allowed to do that in the us?
@curioushvacguy6876
@curioushvacguy6876 4 жыл бұрын
Hey Calvin here in the US for comfort cooling if the leak rate is more then 10% of the entire charge then a repair needs to be made or arrangements to repair the leak need to be scheduled and communicated with the EPA. With that being said as far as topping off the charge on a known leaking system, as long as its within that percentage Its ok- also I had a plan in place to return and charge with nitrogen to find and repair the leak at that time. If there was refrigerant blowing out the side and it was loosing alot more the the 10% rate per year that may be a different story. Thanks for watching
