Yes sir, we say snug it up. Now that I hear you mention it... There's snug it up until it's flush, until it gets tight, and barely snug it up. Howdy from Texas my friend!

Lance, you're lucky to have a calibrated bicep, it saves a lot of time looking for the torque wrench! An old mechanic told me that a rule of thumb for torquing is to twist it until it breaks then back it off half a turn.

The trick is to stop just before it breaks, lol.

Hello there. Thanks for making the great videos. I have split an 1140 and found the loose oil line from the transmission pump. You are talking about a bush with setscrew in the backhousing to prevent the oil line from sliding back.. Is this a JD kit or a kit you have procured locally?? Greetings from Norway!
@BundyBearsShed

It was a geniune John Deere kit, I think I would have mentioned the part number in the video,.

Great video as usual Lance, thank you! Out of interest you said the PTO brake bolts were 5/8“ UNC and the socket cap screws holding the gear on were 8mm head. How do you know which are SAE and which are metric? Seems to me it’d be easy to round something off by picking the wrong socket or spanner? Cheers.

PTO brake bolts that hold it ib are 3/8" unc but the allen head screws that holt the gear to the pto clutch are an 8mm head. As the tractors were made in Germany with french engines but hardware shipped to the factory from the USA it is a mix and match. You just know by looking after a while.

Hi, i have a jd 3140 (first gen ) and i want to change main saft's oil seal . I want to ask you if i can change them from the side of the clutch or if i have to do it from the side of the gear box.
@BundyBearsShed

Has to be from the gearbox side sadly.

Such a great series of videos! I bought a 3130 (the European/Canadian version of the 2840) only to find out that there is/are hydraulic issue(s). It is very similar to the 1640 from what I can tell. If I keep the PTO speed at or above rated, I can get a few hours of rigorous bush hogging, and then the PTO power and all hydraulics drop out. If disengage PTO for about 30 seconds, hydraulic power returns and PTO runs solid for maybe 5 minutes, and then fully drops again. It will keep returning for a while every time PTO is disengaged for a short moment. I wonder if this is related to hydraulic fluid temperature and reduced viscosity? Maybe a leak in the PTO clutch that consumes all supply at some viscosity/temperature? I put new Deere hydraulic fluid, replaced filter, cleaned screen, and same behavior. I'm currently not setup (no time/no garage) to split it in half, so I hope for a band-aid solution before I can. What are your thoughts, sir?

Im thinking a leak in the pto pack or the oil on the way to it.

Do You maybe have a tip, how to remove an old rubber seal from the pto cover of a john deere 1630? The seal sticks firmly and comes only loose in little pieces. The tractor was leaking oil from the pto shaft and I wanted to replace the seal. Thanks in advance and greatings from Belgium (EUROPE)
@BundyBearsShed
@BundyBearsShed 5 жыл бұрын
You need to pull the pto back plate off and get under the seal from behind.

@@BundyBearsShed that's what I have done. I have access to the seal but I can't remove it. I tried with a screwdriver but was able to loosen only some little pieces. It seems that it's glued on the cover. Could brake cleaner or Silicon remover help?

G day Derek, The 30 series is similar but different if you know what I mean, the 40 and 50 series are exactly the same in this housing.
