Love this stuff, I hope to buy a MF65 soon and I think it needs a rebuild so all this info will come in handy!

That's one abused engine! You're a man after my own heart, makita rattle gun to the rescue and the obligatory drops 😁 but one very informative video 👍👍👍

I have a 1970 mf 40 with the 3 cylinder perkins. Could you please tell me what coolant you'd recommend? ❤️ the channel.
@BundyBearsShed2 жыл бұрын
I always use a glycol-based coolant, that is the bright green stuff. It comes in different strength but I use a stronger one for initial fill then top up with 33%

Those pistons and rings were fine right up till they pre detonated on ether.

The gloves I prefer to use are straight NITRILE, don't use Nitrile MIX, they are crap. Just sayin...lol. Good vid, thanks.

Great video Lance. Question. The ring that’s at the bottom of the piston, whats it’s purpose ? My TEA20 Ferguson had those. With the pieces broke of the piston, you would think the cylinder bore would be marked up a bit. Aren’t the sleeves suppose to be above the deck a bit to make a gasket seal ?
@BundyBearsShed2 жыл бұрын
Bottom ring is for oil control and on the Perkins the liners can be up to 0.006" below the surface.

Excellent video Lance - would that damage have been caused by using ether?
@BundyBearsShed2 жыл бұрын
I think it had something to do with it for sure.

Hi lance Great series, I own a. 65 mk1. I know we can't be sure but what caused the ring damage??

Im blaming the Ether but others disagree.

It just needed a bigger turbo! with enough boost and either you don't even need rings for it to run! LMAO

What's your method to clean the water jacket?
@BundyBearsShed2 жыл бұрын
Pressure clean at first and see how good I can get it. If Im not satisfied with the result I will send it to be hot tubbed in town .

Good-ness! I ain't never seen that many rings stuck so hard and broke and that many pistons busted up in one engine. It almost looks like it was run hotter than the fires of Gehenna and it cooked the pistons and rings. Do you reckon the scale buildup helped her run hot, or did drunky the clown run it without water? Most rigs I've pulled apart after they were rusted stuck had pretty well pitted cylinder walls. Really enjoy your show, have a good'n from the Ozarks, Missouri, USA.

Nothing else seems to have been hot, its hard to say what the story was as I bought it as a wreck really. I got a few stories on the tractor but the owner was a horse bloke and hated machinery so who knows what really went on.

You read 31131171. Is that a standard size part number for Massey? I was asking because apparently john deere puts STD or 0.30 on their bearing, so I'm told. I'm plannnng on tearing down a Case 1175 with blowby and not sure how they label their bearings.
@BundyBearsShed2 жыл бұрын
Most makes have a 0.010 or 0.020etc if undersize. Im thinking these are standard but I have not measured the crank yet.
@clarencetrice444210 ай бұрын
the piston rings aren't no good and should be replaced W new rings and the engine block needs 2 be dipped and boiled out 2 get rid all that mess if it's not cleaned out the engine won't stay cool and the flow in the engine won't be like it should be it make the engine run hot 🔥 😮 /😊😊 2 17 2O24
