There are lots of gasket sealers on the market but it's hard to improve on Permatex.

Hi lance, for the tacho you could always drive it of the alternator electrically if you have trouble with the mecanical one, i put one on my ebro that had never had one from new, most newer alternators have a special tab for it(usually marked W for some unknown reason) cheers Derek

Looks pretty easy when the rest of the tractor is not blocking everything. I am in the middle of changing the front cover. The center bolt of the diesel pump came loose and made a whole in the cover. Removing the engine cover was easy enough, some of the bolts on the front frame for the loader broke, so there's that. The biggest problem now is finding tools to fit the centerbolt on the crankshaft. I guess i need to buy some new tools, i mostly have metric tools. So the little bolt is gonna cost me a penny or two all in all. Fun fact: when the center bolt on the diesel pump comes loose, all the return diesel actually goes into the engine oil and fast at that, well i guess my engine is clean and neat on the inside :)

I've used Permatex Form-A-Gasket before. But, is the "515" he discusses here Loctite 515? And, why would we want two different kinds of sealant on that SS backing plate?

With dissimilar metals one stops galvanic corrosion. The original plate was a bakelite type product.

Do you need some sealant/goo between the back plate and aluminum cover? Is it to prevent galvanic corrosion?

Hi Lance, have you had to do anything with the pulley alignment? I've fitted a new pump and the pulleys are off, just wondering how best to tackle it?

I have used a puller to adjust the water pump pulley slightly .

I have an MF40 and am having coolant circulation problems.... pulled water pump and it looked good, bearing good.... so changed thermostat and still no movement of coolant... any suggestions be appreciated

I dont beleive so.... radiator looks nice and clean inside but I could be wrong. ...
