Hi Lance can the wheel studs be removed without taking the half shaft out? Thanks.

Yes I think so, It would certainly be worth a try.

There was enough of that screw sticking out to use your wire welder and weld a nut on it then turn it out. I clean the top good, turn up the power, go a little lean on the wire, and up the gas more than usual. Weld the nut on, let it cool a bit, give it a rap with a brass hammer, and it should come right out. If it breaks off, grind the weld and do it again. This has worked for me every time so far. Easy outs rarely work. Breaking off the drill bit is a pain but then I would still go the welder route. Looks like you have been an editing mad man. Good show!

Yes I have used the welding method with good success I might do that another time. I often use that method with a bolt in a cast housing especially if it is hard to get. This was an easy one with access to both sides.

You and I are about the same age so I thought you probably knew about this method but just in case, I put it out there for people watching who may not have tried it. Once you've had a drill or an easy out break off you'll try anything to keep that from happening again. On my TO20 I had a bit of good luck getting the screws out. My Dad had a 1/2" drive socket that had a short wide rectangular tip on it. I don't know what he used it for back in the 50s and I have been moving it around in my box for most of my life but I got the idea to see if it fit the drum screws. It was too wide so I took it on the grinder and brought the sides in until it was the width of the screw. The thickness was a perfect tap in with a hammer. I put the impact on it and all the screws came right out despite the screws and drum were very rusty. That was a good day with no beatings for a change. Keep up the Fergie stuff, I love it!

G Day Ian, There is stories of semi trailers full of Fergys going from up here in QLD to down your way for the orchards. They couldnt sell them up here when they were traded in on the new ones is the story.
