I'll bring up a phrase I learned from another youtuber- The Drum Thing- and that word is "shittification". It's the gradual decrease in quality with increase in price, relative to whatever product a company is pumping out. As companies grow, the amount of bean counters and assistant staff grows with it. Investors require constant growth over each quarter, and the fastest (not easiest or smartest) method to ensure financial stability short term is to simply cut corners. Use lower quality materials, outsource, spread the cost over the greatest area. Not only does it save money, it also disseminates responsibility. In reference to video games, it's the horde of crippling launches and ridiculous deadlines that have plagued the industry as of late. Original ideas are pushed out while tried-and-true stories, plots, and gameplay are given buffed graphics and polish before being pumped out to the masses. No one will know it sucks until after they've bought it, but that just means they can claim new records for first week sales and let the nerds crank out patches to fix the bugs. Give a blanket formless apology on X and then you're right back to counting the money, only to repeat it in 8 months time. With the exception of Helldivers 2, I can't think of a single game in the past 4 or 5 years that I've actually looked forward to playing. I've long given up hope that there would be anything fresh or exciting within the Halo or CoD franchise; GTA doesn't inspire me to wait for the next astral alignment, there really isn't anything GOOD in my opinion. Beautifully rendered cutscenes and shader packs are great, but give me a game that is simply fun. Perhaps I'm just old, but games aren't what they used to be, at least not in my eyes. Not anymore, and they haven't been for awhile. Playing 4 player split screen with friends was peak enjoyment for me, and I've yet to see anything on the horizon that can surpass my memories of years gone by.

You are spot on. Act Man did a video describing everything you said.

Well, with Bungie it isn't exactly like that. They are in a never ending cycle of: releasing shitty/subpar content->players get angry and numbers start dropping->bungie management gets scared and produces decent content, then the cycle restarts, just with D2: was shit at launch->forsaken (great)->shadowkeep (shit) -> beyond light (almost as shit)-> witchqueen (great/good) -> lightfall (shit) ->the final shape (great/good). Bungie is incapable of producing quality content, unless their asses are collectively nailed to the wall, but the current situation shows that the consequences are starting to catch up (and mostly the average worker pays the price) with them because they danced on the edge of the blade too many times, but from this they won't be able to recover as key people have left with these 2 layoff whom were responsible for their most well known content.

@@johnnywoker , what I find bazaar with D2, is D1 by end game was at a good point. Then D2 just did a complete reset. And every feature in D1 that was great was removed. It just annoyed everyone.

@@mrblack5145 You are just blind or willing to swallow only the mainstream slop. There have been many great and outstanding games in the last 5 years.

to be fair, annual 600k is not really that enormous for CEO of a big US company and even if you just outright cut that person and distribute his salary to save a few to be laid off "regular" employees, it's maybe 8 people worth. but I bet he has been earning quite a lot in bonuses too

I have never cared about destiny, but I have always cared about halo, bungie was the pioneer of gaming, and I can’t believe that 220 employees were gone at an instant!

What? Is Pete going to take a 100k pay cut to save two employees? 600k is A LOT of money annually, but a cut isn't going to save jobs. Destiny 2 has wrapped up its story and they are going to pull back on employees because of this as there is currently no future large DLCs announced. That's what happens when you've finished the project, you move on.

As I said in the video, Pete isn’t the only member of the team that’s on a lot of money. Sometimes it’s not possible, but when they say they “did all they could,” it’s clearly untrue.
