Thanks for the video. The seat washer in your video was too small for my coffee maker. A great employee at our local hardware store suggested grommets. He fixed me up with GARDNER BENDER 1/2” (12.7 mm) grommets GHG-1550 that came in a pack of 4. Seems to be holding and cost less than $3.59 with tax. Thanks again!

*This replaced a smaller Keurig that I owned for 6 years **MyBest.Kitchen** I wanted the convenience of the water receptacle and while this unit is much larger than the previous one, I'm very happy with my purchase. The only downside to this larger model is having to move it from under the cabinets to place the pod and refill it. I was able to rectify this by purchasing glide mats for small appliances. Now, it's perfect!*

I was going to replace my Bunn Coffee maker, but the prices floored me.(it was a gift years ago). So I Googled Leaking Bunn and was directed to your video, What A money saver, a quick trip to my local Ace Hardware and BINGO I was able to fix it and save some bucks. Thanks for taking the time to share your fix.

This is the best repair video. Works on model GRX as well as BX. Mine was a 2008 model and Bunn would not send me a "repair" kit because it is 7 years past the 3 yr. warranty period. Haha, Bunn. You can keep your $30 off coupon for a new machine because I don't need it! And I saved $100. Well, $95 because they've raised the price of the washers. But this works perfectly. Thank you!!!

Thank you so much for this! I’m a BUNN lover! I only use these coffee pots. The convenience of having the hot water tank and how fast it brews is crucial for me! However, I realized years ago that my Bunn machines leak from the seals and the seals have to be replaced, or fixed. But I have yet to find the size I need! Until your video! So thank you so so much!

Thank you, Thank You, THANK YOU for your clear, detailed solution to a frustrating problem with my occasionally leaking Bunn coffee maker. I followed your recommendation, and went to Ace hardware. They had item number 4069522, just like the package in your video. The Ace price went up to $4.99, but it still beats buying a new coffee maker and throwing the 7-8 year old Bunn into the land fill. Thanks a million!

The Ace part didn't work in my 15 year old GRX-B. However, a number 10 o-ring fixed it perfectly. I put it right at the spot where the silicone sits at the hot water reservoir. The counter was completely dry. I also gave the machine a very good cleaning overnight with pure vinegar and scrubbed all the internal areas with a toothbrush. I also rinsed the hot water reservoir out several times while the machine was apart (filling it with a funnel) and dumped it upside down to empty it. You wouldn't believe the sludge that came out. I believe it was the disintegrated silicone from the part that wore out from sitting at the hot water reservoir. I will be taking the machine apart for a thorough cleaning each year. I am so glad I tried to fix it before buying a new one for $110.

I thought i had the same problem, but mine was leaking from the stainless pot itself. The white sealer between the lid and pot. I had to drill out the spot welds to separate them. Resealed it with ASI 502 sealer and pop riveted the lid back on. Your video helped me with reconnecting all the wires.

Tried it and fix worked well from 3/24/18 until 5/2/19, at which time it began leaking again. Washer became very stiff and brittle; also, deteriorated with black coming off on fingers. Suggest plan on replacing washer periodically, maybe every 6 months. (used Pfister A0080359)

Hi Eric, Because of you, i have been able to fix my coffee maker. Thanks for that. Because i live in Canada i ordered on the internet the washer that you have mentioned from Ace Hardware. Unfortunatly the leaking has not stop because my inner casing have been damaged by the heat. So i have tried a simple plastic washer, about 1/8 inch thick and it worked ! I have never seen a so bad after sale service from a company. When i called them they said that if my coffee maker was still on guarantee they would replace it completely. Wich was not the case. Otherwise they had no solutions for me. Neither any replacements parts. I had another issue few years ago with my thermostat,causing my coffee maker stop working. This time, again, they had no solutions. I found the answer for the fix on KZbin. I bought a part that cost me under 2 $. Before i had this coffe maker Bunn was for me one of the best company to buy from. But now, with the bad service that i had, when my machine will die, be sure i will never buy again a machine from them. I am wondering how come they are still making business !

Great video, thanks for making it. The recommended seat washer did not do the trick, as my molded plastic piece had some crumbling from the lip around the hole - almost seemed like an o-ring had been there and melted into the plastic. I scraped it all off, and with the hole a little larger now, the seat washer did not fit well enough. I then tried the half-inch grommet (recommended from other comments) with a little o-ring sealant on it. Really thought that would work, but still leaked. Then I tried the seat washer pushed up into the grommet hole from the bottom, and this seems to have worked. Hope this helps someone else. BTW I also bought a 5/8" grommet, and expect that it would have been too big.

Hi Eric, I really appreciate your video showing the repair of an upper leak on your Bunn Coffee Maker. The most recent Bunn Coffee maker to fail in our family, #4, has been passed my way for repair of a leak that appears to come from a leak somewhere on the lower part of the maker. Do you, or any other person reading this, know anything about this type of leak and how to repair it. It seems to be particularly difficult to attempt any type of diagnosis because the stainless metal bottom plate (the one that faces the counter-top) is not attached by screws but secured tightly by several vertically placed, secured, thin pieces of metal that slide through slots on the bottom plate and are bent at 10 degrees to hold the bottom plate securely in place. It appears that the only way to access the bottom inner workings is to be able to bend these vertical plates back by 10 degrees so that they are straightened out and the bottom will then easily slip off making the bottom section of the maker's inner workings visible and available to fix. So far, I have been unable to bend these metal tabs back so that I can remove the bottom and see what, if anything, is failing in the bottom section of the maker. Every Bunn Coffee maker that we've owned in my family (including ones passed between my grandparents and parents), 5+ so far when all counted, have started leaking on the lower half - water surrounds the enamel covered metal hot plate which the glass carafe sits on - water is visible and is level with the height of the hot-plate and the plastic that surrounds it and then, also, water is visible on the small ledge where the column that connects the top part (water heater and dispenser) to the base of the maker (this is the part that sits on the counter, the bottom side is made of metal and several small rubber feet logistically placed so that the maker is sitting correctly, w/o wobbling, on the counter. The water might possibly come out of the very bottom metal plate that is both the base/bottom plate of the maker, faces the counter-top and appears to be held in place by 2-3 stainless/rustproof pieces of metal that are made of the same material that the bottom plate is made of (the one facing the counter top) and these metal tabs fit through slots on this bottom stainless metal piece that creates the bottom of the entire coffee maker and the pieces fit through these slots and are then bent by about 10degrees, stopping the bottom plate from wiggling, clanking, not seating completely and also make it very difficult to remove this bottom section to see why there is water accumulating at the base of the tower and in the small space between the black porcelain hot-plate and that small space created by the plastic that surrounds it. I've heard that this is a common leaking point for Bunn Coffee Makers, that it typically occurs at about the 5-7 year mark (the 3 of 5 makers that have failed so far have done so at between 4-5 years) and I've read that it involved a small rubber tube that has a connection that fails. Does ANYBODY know about this type of leak and have successful experience with repairing it? Bunn operator stated that they knew exactly what was leaking (small rubber tube/connection) and is charging a fee that starts at $60 USD to fix it. It seems quite unfair especially when one takes into account the price to purchase this supposedly top of the line coffee brewer. It was especially peeving to me when I realized that every, literally EVERY Bunn coffee maker that we have owned, once it hits 4-5 years of age, has a leak that is so well known by the employees at the Bunn Customer Service desk that they outright state that this is a very common, well known failing and that they can even quote an accurate price for an accurately diagnosed (w/o even seeing the brewer) part needing repair. Why not simply fix the issue in production or offer free "tune-ups" for these known issues? lmc

Another successful fix!! Thank you, Eric! A $100 coffee maker, had to put in a redesigned spray head to prevent basket overflowing, and now at two years old, a puddle of water on the counter (seems rather dangerous for an electrical appliance). If they would only re-engineer the cheap bent lip on the carafe... "No matter how you shake and dance, that last little drop will get your... countertop!"
@DavidDiepenbrock
@DavidDiepenbrock 4 жыл бұрын
The holes where the water leak out are precisely to keep the water away from the electrical connections. I'm still unimpressed with the way this (doesn't) seal, but be thankful that it leaks on the counter instead of shorting out an electrical connection or corroding electrical wires.

Eric...great video. The only problem I'm having now is that the plastic balance beam is to light to properly seal the hole. Yes, I made sure the faucet seat is flush, may add a stainless steel washer on top of the beam head as a weight to the balance beam so as I'm pouring the water in the top, it does not start to leak into the coffee basket area BEFORE I'm done even pouring the water into the top...Job well done.

You only need to use one of the gaskets. Don't put it through the hole either. That is a common mistake, too, I think. That gasket just fits snuggly on the bottom side of the hole. It's about 2:04 of the video where I show putting it in. Kinda crappy video, but oh well.

I did this fix 4 months ago and it started leaking again...I used the other washer to replace the first one (It appeared to have fitted brittle) it worked great until the next day...coffee maker is leaking just as before...is there another point of contention with this maker? Thanks in advance for your help...DP✊

Eric Anderson Now we have 2 coffee makers, as I was lucky to have saved the old one for your fix. Just received the free replacement one from Bunn, so we're set for some time to come! Also, my daughter's BTX-B is leaking the same way, so I sent her a link. Your video has saved these two Bunn's from the landfill.

Thank you Eric! I was able to do this myself. Mine is 11 years old so some of the plastic has deteriorated but it's not leaking much. May add some silicone but that is outside of my skill set :-)

For many years of these retail machines, this type of leak is caused by a design flaw that allows the plastic water fill tray to be in too close of contact with the hot water reservoir, which eventually disintegrates the plastic at that nipple connection. Bunn will not sell you a new plastic tray (& if they did it would cost nearly as much as a new machine!). The last 2 units I fixed (to get a few more years of use), I obtained a free repair kit from Bunn cust. svc. (it was basically a large silicone washer & new metal washer) I assume they no longer offer that, so I hope they improved the design?

hello Thanks for video, very helpful. How come manufacture does not make the top peace with 4 screws in the bottom have small tube one solid piece that instead of only seating on bottom part it goes inside of it approx. .5 inch. then no oring required. there are other design concerns that can be take care of.

Mine just began leaking yesterday. The water inside also does not heat up, which at first I thought was caused by someone turning the unit off, but now I am wondering if the leak shorted something inside. Both problems began at the same time. Has anyone else had this problem? Thanks for a great video Eric.

6 years later, the washer deteriorated. I still had the second one that was in the package. Just put it in. Will see if it works! The hole was kinda elongated this time.

Did this, but, it started leaking again. It seems the hole the seating gasket goes into has deteriorated and the seating gasket can't seal. I removed it and used thick silicon sealant under the bottom of the large washer where it meets the metal surface and the leak has disappeared for a week so far. I think the added thickness to the original washer allows enough compression for it to seal. This was all done to an older unit I had previously stored for parts due to the same leaking problem. (Also, after phoning Bunn, was sent replacement for my newer unit under 3 year warranty that I thought had expired). Now have a new one for a spare!

the issue you have is under the metal plate that covers the tank .. there is another gasket there. I had the very same issue and called Bunn. they sent me for free a gasket kit that covers the original one and i put it on myself and that fixed the issue for leaking completely.. Bunn designs these to last approximately 5 -6 years and they knwo that the units will start leaking. thats why they engineer them with plastic parts.. over time the plastic gives away and starts to erode.. because of the calcium build up and so forth.. call them and let them knwo that your tank cover gasket has a leak and they will send you at no charge a seal that goes under the tank lid. take a little extra time in installing it because the top has to come off like Eric stated but then the tank lid has to come off as well. there are a few screws that have to come off of the tank lid and then under the lid is the problem. you'll immediately see it after it is open .. good luck in case you still have the unit.. its worth fixing.

My Bunn GR10-W first started leaking water out the bottom onto the countertop, then a couple of days later, the on off light quite working, and now the burner that keeps the coffee warm has stopped. Is this coffee maker just toast, or can I fix it? Any ideas? Thanks.

Note: I did this fix. Still leaked. Pause at the 1:07 mark. My leak was an large o-ring under the metal cap. You'll see 6 screws holding the metal down.(at the pause the screws have been removed) Before you put it all back together. Remove the plastic large washer in the center. Find a funnel that fits tight in that hole. Slowly fill with water. If like mine, you'll see water leaking under the edge of the metal top. Fix: remove the 6 screws. Remove the spray head and nut under it. Lift the metal top off to expose the o-ring. Either replace the o-ring or use some food safe silicon sealer. Be prepared for lots of lime/calcium build up in the tank.

I just bought a new one today because my other one(Which had only been used for about 3 weeks) had started leaking when I put what in it. I got home with my new one and could not even put one caraff in before it started pouring water. I have already sent them an email about it, I know I can buy the part to fix both of them but for the price we pay for them you should not have to do anything to one when its brand new!
