In this video, I show the steps in disassembling, repairing, and cleaning a BUNN coffee maker. This particular unit is in over all excellent condition. The only issue was a broken heater element switch and some light cleaning / descaling.
Thanks for watching! Feel free to comment below. And please subscribe to my channel and give a thumbs up if you found this video helpful and educational!

Soak in Vinegar works great, and ever so often I run vinegar and water thru the coffee reservoir and it breaks loose deposits, works great for us. Thanks for sharing, love ours.

Yes, white vinegar is a great decalcifier! I use it more than anything else. My final cleaning is with 91% isopropyl alcohol to sterilize the tank and hoses. Lastly, I run white vinegar through again before I run just clean water to remove the vinegar.

@@dannielong59 if these sit for many hours or overnight plugged in but not used the water evaporates from the tank so you get a low pot the first time. the solution is to pour in half a pot and let it run out before brewing the first pot of coffee.

Mine leaks horrible from the top. Took it apart and it nearly flows out of the thermostat washer that is like brand new. I probably going to seal it with some food grade sealant.

Any ideas why every morning when i make a pot of coffee with this machine the burner underneath the spray head has a good amount of water that has leaked from the spray head, sometimes worst than other times but can be up to 1/16" I cant figure out why it would be doing this!?!?
@ElectroRestore

Assuming you have descaled the water outlet line: Check the auto-shutoff switch. If the water is boiling, it will boil over when not inuse. Also check the thermostat control which can cause the same issue. Lastly, you may need to replace the tank lid and thermostat gaskets.

Great insight of the coffee maker. My machine just popped the GFCI it was plugged into. We've been using this for years and now something has happened while it was just there. I unplugged the pot and reset the GFCI then replugged it in and it popped immediately.any suggestions to fix this issue?

You have a shorth circuit. It most likely is the heater has deteriorated from hard water sediments eating through the heater coil housing causing a short circuit. However, I would not rule out that the short could also be in any one of the switches, solenoids or wire harnesses.

mine went wild and started gushing water out of the filler and sprayer im guessing the thermostat messed up. I replaced the thermostat and it works but seems to not get as hot as it did yes I have it all the way to hot.
@ElectroRestore
@ElectroRestore 5 ай бұрын
You should also change the cutoff switch. If the water gets too hot, it will boil over and spew out wherever it can. Also, the silicon gaskets on the tank lid should be replaced. One was replaced with your thermostat most likely. Check the other too though. When they get hot, they expand and loose their tight seal. Boiling water will destroy their integrity.

Hey, myn leaks from the tank top when I dump water in it. I'm guessing I need to change this seal? Also my machine sits in my cold barn. Anything I should do in winter time? Will it break if it's full of water? Thank you
@ElectroRestore
@ElectroRestore 4 ай бұрын
Change the tank lit gasket and it should be fine. If it freezes full of water it can split the tank. However, it is more likely to pop the gasket and bend the lid.@@tonyb3676

ordering a new thermostat grommet for mine, I hope it comes with a split to install it or do you force the probe through it?
@ElectroRestore

Yes it should be slit for installation. It is just to isolated the probe line from the temperature of the metal at the convection point.

I have this exact same unit, and it has been sitting for a few months since it was given to me at which time it was working fine. When I brought it out yesterday to clean it and make sure it was still working, when I poured the water in it just runs right out.Do I need to let it warm up the water in the tank first before I put more water in it?

Hi LeRoy, sorry I did not see this earlier. For some reason, I don't get all the notifications I should. But for others to know too, yes toy nerd to let it warm up before you pour more water than the tank holds.

If I changed my thermostat and turned in all the way up and my water still takes forever to heat up should I change the elements next?
@ElectroRestore
@ElectroRestore Жыл бұрын
Not likely. If the heater is working, then it could be deposit build up on it,, or the inside of the tank. If it does not look bad in the tank, is replace the hi temp shut off switch. In fact, that is usually the culprit

I have the same one, and i have a problem, the water alway boil none stop .. do you help me to found solution, is it the thermostat ? Thank !!
@ElectroRestore
@ElectroRestore 2 жыл бұрын
Yep! It is the thermostat. It is not shutting the water off. Replacing it is not difficult. 1. Unplug the coffee maker. 2. Disconnect the two wires from the thermostat terminals. 3. Remove the two screws holding the thermostat in place. 4. Gently remove the probe gasket and then slide out the probe. 5. Insert the new probe into the tank being careful not to kink the metal tube. 6. Make sure the probe is down the tank about half way and not touching the sides of the tank or the heater. It should be free moving. 7. push the new gasket into the hole and re attach the thermostat screws & wires. 8. Set the control knob about 3/4 of the way to high to test it. Adjust as desired by turning it up (in small increments) and checking the water temperature in coffee pot at each point until you are satisfied with the coffee temperature. WARNING: Always unplug the coffee maker before making any adjustments. Remember, you are doing this at your own risk. Water and electricity is a deadly combination that can kill! If you are not comfortable doing this, take it to a service person.

I have to put in nearly two pots of water and than another pot for mine start making just one pot...why is this???
@ElectroRestore
@ElectroRestore 3 жыл бұрын
The unit has a tank that has to be filled. The water in the tank is heated by the heating element and is always hot. That is if you leave it plugged in. After that, the machine is ready to use. As you pour cold water in, it pushes the hot water out. So you put 1 pot of cold water in and get exactly 1 pot of hot water out. I hope that makes sense.
@GetRealBaby
@GetRealBaby 2 жыл бұрын
With the maker off and the water cold inside the tank, fill with pure/distilled water until the water comes out and flows into the pot. Now your tank is full and ready to be plugged in. Let it heat up to boiling (you should hear it boil and then stop boiling). That's when you add a pot of water at the top. Be sure you have a spray head attached and that it's clean with no clogged holes. It's easy to unscrew and clean. Now you're good to go.

weird, wrong basket? does it have the spray head?
@GetRealBaby
@GetRealBaby 2 жыл бұрын
I think you're missing the spray head that disperses the water out evenly over the coffee in the basket. Without that spray head, the basket will overflow. I think ebay or amazon sells the spray head, but I'm not sure. You can go without the spray head and still make a pot of coffee; you just have to add a basket amount of water each time, not a full pot of water. Wait until the coffee stops flowing into the pot before adding another basket amount of water. Know what I mean?
