Bob talks about his fixed vegetable beds, the green manures he uses, why he loves Borage and is trying to select a pink flowered one plus shows off his home made garden shed from old tyres. As you would expect he show cases old freezers for new uses, his compost heaps and his double skinned polytunnel. Bob and Bunny approach gardening in totally different ways and are known for regular heated discussions on BBC Radio 4’s Gardeners’ Question Time.
Listen to a longer discussion between Bunny and Bob on Bunny’s podcast ‘Bunny in the Garden with…’.

So lovely to see Bob Flowerdew. Haven’t seen him since his days on Gardeners World with the late, great Geoff Hamilton. I remember he grew potatoes in tyres, and true to his belief he’s still using them. He has a true love for gardening, and I love his approach. Glad to see he still has the plaits. Thank you for a most enjoyable blog. 💚💚💚

I just love when you do these one on one, the conversation is wonderful even with the bantering 😅. Each garden you visit is different and each to his/her own as they say. If we can glean even one bit of information, it is time well spent. And I get a giggle while watching. It truly makes my day as I watch in the mornings with my coffee and I am set to have a great day… Thank you Bunny ❤

I make compost piles where I plan to use the compost. It makes for less toting the compost through the yard. Plus, I can experiment to see which pile composts better than another.

Interesting content - great to hear the chat between you two that works so well on BBC radio. I'm sure that when designing and making a garden for a client, you would bring in professionals to work in your team, chosen for their skills in horticulture, engineering, stone working and so on. But you don't do this for KZbin videos. Others in the KZbin gardening subject area do seem to have paired up with people with film-making production skills to really good effect.

I think Nicky Haslam (one of your previous interviewee's this year) would have enjoyed accompanying you on this visit; an opportunity missed. From the 40 vines he planted, Bob stated only two varieties have proved any good - I wonder which ? Desmond from Norfolk was a good watch; this also. Thank you.

I'm not familiar with Bob. Quite the character. I did see an evil nettle in his compost leavings. Here in the U.S. it's drummed into us to never leave the doors on an abandoned fridge because children could get trapped inside. I'm definitely one to 'just let things grow as they will', as I rarely ever get enough time to do everything necessary in my garden. But I've also had friendly disagreements with a friend who loves her drip watering system (we're in California, so watering is a must), while I like to hand water or use the hose, personally monitoring when different plants in my mostly container garden need water. I also like to inspect the garden every time I water, which, with my current strategy, is once or twice a week, taking an hour. Small pots may need to be topped off with rainwater from my barrels once or twice during the week. I do have to say, though, that I prefer your aesthetic, Bunny. Your garden has such a feel of an old estate (even the newer bits), and I love how everything looks beautiful without trying too hard. I do think I need some borage in my life, though. :)

My heart sank about two seconds in with the mention of Kingie. Not an endorsement in my opinion.Yes,Bob we could all grow our own fresh healthy food if we had an acre or so available like you do. And yes,we worked too and were prepared to pay but SOCIETY said a BIG NO to us didnt it. No,you cant buy a house and garden with that money you earn. We are excluding you.

Even a tiny garden can grow quite a bit of food if people weren't obsessed with lawns and paths. Tubs and window boxes can grow herbs and tomatoes, a pot of spinach will last for ages. No, we can't all have great gardens but we can all do our bit.

Cats DO actually kill quite some birds, but very often without us seeing it. AND- birds are also quite scared when cats are around, so they get much less offspring because of all that stress. And since these cats are an invention of men (and not the wild ones) AND they leave there faeces on my paths I’m no big fan I have to say. ,-).

Cats don't kill many birds? It's currently around 1.5 million a year in UK. Any use of Himalayan balsam like this is illegal as it can spread the invasive plant.
