So funny story, I along with some friends actually were actively working on these games with the lead dev (Shanaz, the guy who speedran the whole game, 10:46) I was (iirc) a lead artist despite making a single thing for the now cancelled mario party ripoff (scuffed party) My friend Tobi5158 was a sprite maker for scuffed visual novel. despite what it may seem like, these games each took around six months to make because of the dev team being very fragmented. I recount there being over five to six cancelled games over the year I worked on the team. Expect a comment from Shanaz since he usually keeps up with videos on his games. I've been binge watching your videos and gotta say, very underrated for how entertaining these are. Edit: I'm not 100% sure he intentionally makes them terrible or just does so to hide actual lack of skill. That's up to you I guess. Edit2: To answer your question at 14:02 yes you did, as much as any man can while playing such a *great* game lol
@Graeldon Жыл бұрын
Wow, thanks for taking the time to check out my channel! It's always a lovely surprise to find a member of the dev team in the comments! I have to ask: was there any reasoning behind the music?
@Retrovoider Жыл бұрын
@Graeldon No problem! I've been loving your videos and was surprised to see anyone cover these games. The reasoning for the music is either because Shanaz thought it was funny or lack of actual skill to make music. From my time there, I don't remember there being anyone working on music besides Shanaz. Edit* now that I think about it, there were two other people working on "Music". The whole "songs" were just loud gunfire, sirens etc. Shanaz (thankfully) never used those.

@@Graeldon it's a long story basically 3 years ago when i was still in high school and still developing 2023, it was for a school project that was supposed to be a mobile game, but I was like fuck it imma make a pc game for trolls. I decided coming up with the whole long ass name to piss off my teacher, so I was with my friends and we made the most long and weird name ever, which turned out to be *NEW* SCUFFED EPIC BHOP SIMULATOR 2023 (POG CHAMP), and the music choice also happens to be the same reasoning as the name, so whenever I was playtesting it in class, the teacher would have to hear the same song over and over again and drove him insane. I failed the assessment :)

I gotta say, despite them almost never making for a quality gameplay experience, games with weird and random stuff in them are somewhat interesting. They're like graffiti, but in game form. Weird stuff that's worth experiencing once, provided you don't need to pay for it.

As a TF2 player, I thought bunnyhopping was jumping the second you land on the ground, so the game doesn’t consider you grounded between your jumps. Really useful for trolldiers. To be fair, our definitions aren’t mutually exclusive.
@Graeldon Жыл бұрын
It is, but diagonal movement while jumping increases your movement speed. Forward bhop just conserves momentum. Could be different between games though, the explanation I saw was for CSGO
@GrizonII Жыл бұрын
I think bunnyhopping in general is used as a label for any sort of technique involving repeated jumping (often as some sort of way to preserve momentum); the diagonal movement aspect is one particular form of it making use of strafe-jumping and/or air-strafing. I’m not entirely sure on the specifics of the terminology though since there’s no real standardization and does not necessarily appear to be an actual consensus as to what the exact distinctions are (especially if looking at fanbases across multiple different games). Personally at least in the context of Source engine games like TF2 and CS:GO I’d use “bunnyhopping” or “bhopping” to mean the repeated jumps themselves which preserve speed and “airstrafing” to mean the in-air motion which can be used to manipulate one’s velocity, both of which are then used together to allow one to build up speed.

This game is more like quake 3 bhop because you have to hold the diagonal. Traditional bhop just had you hold a single direction while turning. Quake 3 let's you go faster uh faster, traditional gives you more turning control

I used to be a fairly reputable speedrunner in BHOP 2023 and I'm super interested in hearing why you preferred 2026 over 2023. Mostly the music? I always found that the floatier controls of 2023 lent themselves more to interesting shortcuts, and some of the more advanced tech was cut out of 2026 by the changes. Also, been watching the series all the way through and it was super cool to see one of my top 10 games of all time be played!
@Graeldon Жыл бұрын
I'm honestly amazed that this is in anybodies top ten, but hey, more power to you. I got a better sense of speed from the 2026 edition and the "story mode" actual motivated me play more than just a random assortment of levels. It felt somewhat more refined, but also more varied with the level design.

B-hopping is a very strange "mechanic" spawned from the source engine's odd player physics. It's a very strange tech to understand if you've never messed around with it, but a way we've managed to understand it well is that, instead of seeing your inputs as controlling the player, imagine it that you're controlling a point that floats around your player, that pulls you towards it with somewhat "realistic" physics, kind of like a horizontal grappling hook that floats around you, you rarely want to be holding forward while doing these type of movement things [at least if it works the same way source movement does]

as someone whos bhopped a lot in source games the only question i have is are you holding w (forward) in the air because the game works differently to source games or because you didn't realise you're not meant to? as traditionally when bhopping you don't hold w as it HEAVILY limits your ability to change direction
