I just want to let you know that I watched this video in 2015 when I was about to start my first semester in bmcc. It's now my last semester at bmcc. I got accepted into Hunter and I have to say your advice and the positive things you pointed out about cc in this video helped me go in with a different perception than most and a positive attitude. I did my own thing and didn't focus on other people but I did meet great people. I've done really well in this school, gotten accepted to many colleges and honor programs something I could never say when I graduated high school because I did terrible there. I'm genuinely going to miss bmcc. Some people will complain but I've had a great experience and I'm going to miss it a lot. I actually really loved the school. That being said, thanks for your positive advice. It helped a lot!

hey danielle!! reading your comment reminded me of myself . I also had a great experience at bmcc and later transferred to Hunter. after a year at Hunter i am finally graduating next thursday. I just want to tell you to be brave because Hunter is a jungle lol. I felt more warmth and the community experience at bmcc more than Hunter.

Princess Awa E. Zadi wow I don’t know why I just came back to this comment. Quarantine has me looking at old videos I liked! I wish I would’ve seen this comment a long time ago for the heads up! Hunter was a jungle tbh I had some of the worst experiences but my last year wasn’t so bad and i am graduating once the semester is done! I miss Bmcc so much!

I agree, it's annoing when people judge you on what school/college you go to, or judge the quality of a school/college based on the students... since, it is always based on the individual... great video hun!!... very motivational and some great tips!!... props to you!!...xxx

I am currently attending a community college, but I have no goals beyond an associates degree. The problem is you have to narrow it down to a major. I tried looking at majors at universities and found nothing that interest me. If I have to only study just one subject, I would probably go crazy. Example: if I chose Psychology, and that's all I studied, on the end, I would hate Psychology. Happy I got the degree, but would only be able to get jobs base on just that field. Have any advice?

It's August.... I'm 18 and I'm enrolled to start university in three weeks. My school is costing 17000 a year and i didn't get many grants or scholarships. I really don't want to bite of a 17000 debt just for my first year.... I would much prefer to start out at a community college but the one in my town is just looked down upon so much. Everyone seems to have an opinion on what I'd should do but no one is help funding it. I want to go to a community college but I'm stuck in the same mentality as everyone else in my town and I don't want to have to constantly answer for my decisions. What do I do????
@bunnyjanie8 жыл бұрын
Definitely a difficult situation, but you're the only one who has to live with your decisions. I hated the stigma that community college had, but the years I spent there were some of my favorite. After a while I almost became immune to that how perception of it. Follow your gut ! Those that love you will support your decision.

Years ago (I'm old) I was told a co-worker I was going to the local CC and he's like "oh you mean the trap?" and I didn't understand him. then he elaborated, saying "nobody leaves that school. they linger there forever." I believed him at the time cuz it was true for almost everyone I knew. My gf got pregnant shortly after so I completely dropped out of school. after years of soul searching and hard experience, I returned to CC to finish what I started. This year, I'll be transferring to UCLA as an English major and my kids will be turning 10. CC is a great place to be!!

Did you get to live in a dorm or apt housing when you went to BMCC? And did the financial aid or student loans pay for it? Let me know please! I’m about to go to BMCC but want to go somewhere where I can live on campus.
@silvermica7 жыл бұрын
I went to community college, then transferred to a four year university for a BSEE and then while working as an engineer my company paid for my MSEE degree at SCU. But, yeah, I know what you mean about feeling as if you need to apologize for attending community college (CC) - but it really depends how hard you work at a CC. It's a lot cheaper too - which helped me quite a lot since I had zero support (from family) to go to college.

Ya .... I gave up trying to talk to the guidance counselors at college.. at least the community college I'm in. I start next month, and ya I know they don't help you with homework .. but Damm there's no structure, no guidance at all. It might be another reason why people leave community college.... But it's college right.. not high school. I'm probably just going to go there do my work and go home. If I make friends fine, if not fine. I'm an adult , not a high school kid . So I need to focus on me.

I got accepted to San Francisco state university and Saint John's University my senior year and committed to SF. Unfortunately I failed my last semester of math so I had to settle with a CC. The hardest things so far is saying I'm at a CC and making friends here. I Went in to CC telling myself I WILL transfer and attend an Ivy league or top 25 University, so it's really hard to make friends with people who are as driven as I am. I really want to disconnect myself from the slackers at school. My school has a bad rep also, but ultimately it comes down to the students. Big tip: Get in and get out! Great vid btw!! Wish me luck on my future endeavors.

Can't you just go to a community college for a 2 year degree? Without transfering
@wftjet8 жыл бұрын
It depends on what your 2 year degree is in. If you go to CC to get a 2 year degree for a health care or tech related degree (.e.g web developer) you don't need to get a bachelor's. Not everyone at CC is pursuing transfer to 4-year.

Hey girl! I've recently been accepted into BMCC, and I'm most likely going to attend it if I don't get into Hunter. I was wondering if you knew anything about programs? I applied for BMCC as liberal arts, I think. I have decided I want to major in nursing, but I didn't select the nursing program when I applied. I was wondering if that could mess up anything, or if I could take pre-reqs that correspond with the credit needed to try and get into the nursing program. I know Hunter makes you start Undecided and then choose a major or program, so I was wondering if BMCC did the same, or if I totally just messed up and will be unable to do nursing. Thank you!
@bunnyjanie10 жыл бұрын
Hey sorry for the late response but sadly BMCC doesn't let you be undelcared, but the majority of my friends are in liberal arts so it's not so bad, it gives you alot of freedom in terms of choosing classes. The Nursing Major at BMCC is always very full and competitive so you can always ask about that once you're enrolled. I changed my major during my third semester D: I went from Theater program (Which is great btw) to a Communication Major which I love very much, the changing of majors isn't an overly long process, but the sooner you do it the better, they'll give you more specific advice once youre there. But I know plently of people who had similar situations with Nursing and things turned out well, good luck! :D
