1 lb Lentils
2 Bay Leaves
2 Garlic Cloves, halved
Olive Oil
½ Onion, chopped
1 Plum Tomato, chopped
1 cup Celery, chopped
1 cup Carrots, chopped
1 Potato, diced
¼ cup Fresh Parsley, chopped

Who is this lady?
Gina Petitti was born in 1935 in Faeto, Italy. Her family ran a farm in Italy and she met her husband, Vito, in the same town. In 1970 Gina, Vito, and her 4 children immigrated to America. Gina’s husband passed away in 2012, but she is surrounded by a large family, which includes 9 grandchildren, and lives 5 minutes away from her eldest daughter in New Jersey. Gina spends her time cooking, gardening, and being an active member of her local Church.
Where does Gina get her recipes?
Most of these recipes are from what she learned growing up in Italy, but some of them have evolved over time. She has also learned new recipes from friends and family in America. She is always eager to try new things.
Why is no one helping her in the video?
Grandma Gina doesn’t want help! Usually, it’s because we will slow her down or not do it “her way.” For the videos we only show her, but when the camera cuts we jump in and help form the cookies or prep for the next step.
Why don’t we buy her a new...?
Grandma Gina has a closet and garage full of new gadgets, spoons, forks, pots, etc… but she doesn’t like them because she is used to doing it with her old tools. She has fun getting her hands dirty!
Who is behind the camera?
Her retired son-in-law films, her daughter helps her prep, and she usually has one or two grandkids in the kitchen.
Does Gina read the comments?

I grew up in a large Sicilian family who over time immigrated to the USA. We all lived in general proximity to each other. And the kitchen was the hub for everything. I could tell who came over the ocean when they were young and who came over later in life. all by their English accent. Nana Gina's accent is a spice you can not find in any store. If you were blessed, you grew up hearing it - usually from the Kitchen. It is the spice that makes the dish perfect. Grazie Nana Gina.

I wish her family would make a youtube video of all her songs just so we could listen to her while we relax and eat her recipes or while we cook them or just when we feel like some pretty Italian songs. I remember my Nonna stirring her spaghetti sauce at the stove. Then in came Nonno playing his guitar trying to serenade Nonna to 'Santa Lucia'. Nonna would seem embarrassed and tell him no, stop it! Meanwhile, Nonno would look at me laughing at her reaction😅.. the best memories, and those Sundays the Italian neighborhood men would come over and drink Nonno's homemade wine and play cards underneath the grape vines. ❤❤❤

My first husband was Mexican & he loved all classes of Beans. I do, too. We made some kinds of beans daily. We ate pinto beans daily. And then we would eat lentils & black beans garbanzo beans & northern beans & split peas & others. I love beans . I feel so much better when I eat beans. It gives me strength & keeps me going. I am almost 80 years old. We grew our own food, raised chickens, all in the city. We canned and dried out produce and meat, even the fish my grandfather and uncles caught. We always had a six month supply by preparing on a regular basis, including medical supplies. Sharing with those who needed help from time to time. I have continued this practice up to the present and taught my children and grandchildren to do the same. We are not panicking because we have been prepared. Reconsider this practice everyone when things begin to normalize. Prayers for our brother man. 💗

I just want to be this lady's daughter, granddaughter, daughter in law, neighbor, friend...anything! I LOVE her! She made me want to cook up a mean soup or caldo since I'm Hispanic that's what we make on a cold day.
