When in the US Navy I lived in Honolulu from 1968-1970. Back then the cheapest way to live on Oahu was on a boat moored in the Ala Wai basin. Needless to say there were many "houseboats" and pre-owned boats of questionable seaworthiness used for inexpensive housing. Back then the requirement was that once a year every boat needed to cast off and travel out and around the first sea buoy to prove it was seaworthy. For long term residents it was always on the same day. The local TV station always sent a reporter and cameraman to film the attempts. Every year one or more of the boats did not make it. Some capsized or sank. There was always police boats or Coast Guard boats nearby in the event of minor disasters. It sounds like that simple legal requirement is still in force.

That crazy motorized surfboard! I asked a fleet member of our class of small racing keelboat who lives in Hawaii. He tells me these guys are octopus fishermen on the reefs , they snorkel around with a leash to their boat/ board in the shallow water looking for octopus and apparently not keel boats sailing thru the narrow channels on the reefs! Cheers Warren

I didn't even recognize Honolulu anymore. I lived in Oahu for 6 mos. back in 1960.....yeah, I'm old as dirt. It is hard for me to understand how you two keep the names of the same things clear in your minds.....each thing has two names, Swedish and English. More names if you know other languages. Just thinking about it boggles my mind....not to mention the meanings of words and how to string them together! Smarter than me. The heated discharge into the ocean has been hard on the coral. This was another interesting and enjoyable episode.....thank you!

Tip for the mask: take a lighter and burn out the silicon layer on the inside of the glass till it turns black. Clean it afterwards and use baby shampoo to defog your mask before each dive. But don’t rinse it straight away! Make sure it dries. If the mask fogs up during the dive, add a little water from the bottom of the mask, move your head around to clean it, then clear your mask the usual way. Hope you see this and have even more fun on your future dive adventures!

when your mask fogs up while diving you can rum normal dish washing detergent all of the the inside of the glass and the silicon, leave it for 10 minutes then wash it off. Before diving then just spit in mask and rub it around then rinse, I was a scuba diving instructor for 30 years and it always worked for me

I've lived on Oahu for 30 years. I had sailboats but stayed at La Mariana which is a private marina in Keehi. 10 bucks per foot per month. Free electric, hawaiian style bar/resturant. Government run marinas suck. Yes, call them and you will get different answers depending who you talk to. I now have a boat at the Marine Corps marina in Kane'ohe bay. Whole different atmosphere than Honolulu. Hope you were able to check Kbay out. There is a big sandbar in the middle of the bay everyone parties at.

Hi Guys hold your mask with the head strap hanging down Get a cigarette lighter and warm the glass The moisture that caused the fogging within the glass will evaporate Next time you dive it will be like you are a glass bottom boat Feel the the vibe, we dived in Honolulu about 2 years ago still buzzing Total respect aloha

DIVING MASK FOGGING - Best trick...use a lighter. Heat the glass from de inside slowly till it becomes black, and then use dishwashing soap. Do it twice if necessary. That will get rid of the unmolding compound used to cast the rubber mask which leaves a greasy layer on the glass. Don't be affraid of damaging the rubber skirt, just apply the flamme on the glass....the rubber will hold that without problem.

I had not watched RAN sailing from the first or second episode in Hawaii, and then speculated Australia or New Zealand, or even Asia such as the Japanese fish Market, though it's North to Alaska. Sitka is nice rainy town, "Paris of the Pacific" they call it, lot of hippies and such. lol,, You can get a good bread bowl clam chowder and beer for reasonable price. Groceries are expensive, 6 dollars US a loaf in 98. Well the old Russian cemetery is interesting, mostly all decapitated concrete angles. No worries though it's mysterious. I liked for several weeks visiting a high school friend. There was a college there though I believe it closed. When I left to drive south to Montana when I got home I built a Umak. You may know this vessel. It is an old style with no tumble home in the hull. Well it sits in front yard for decade then some. Humm.. Well safe sailing, and exploring the great north country. Maybe next the Bering sea, lol. I always want to go to Nome. Humm.. ya the oceanography book I read says the seas get terrible shallow contributing to a washboard effect.

The fogging problems with your dive masks is from the left over silicone from the manufacturer of the masks. This gets on the glass lens. To remove it use a soft cloth with toothpaste on it. Clean the lens with a circular motion to remove the silicone from the glass lens. Wash off the toothpaste and use any baby no tears shampoo. I call this "Secrets Spit". I have over 2000 dives and it works great. Love your video's.

Great video, as always. Love to watch your channel. And as someone has already mentioned, prepping the new mask with tooth paste removes the protective coating which causes the fogging. My dive buddies swear by baby shampoo as defogger, but I think that spit is just about the only thing that doesn't burn my eyes while diving.

Put a four or five drops of baby shampoo in a small bottle of water. Squirt some of the solution in your mask and scrub around with your fingers then rinse in the sea water. Works like a champ. Learned from a dive operation when I asked what they were using. They grinned and told me it was a secret recipe!!

The key to not have fog in your mask is to spit into it whilst it is dry, rub it around with your finger then rinse it just before you put it on for your dive. It is important that the inside of the lens is dry when you spit into it. I have been diving for 40 years now and never had a problem

i don't do scuba diving but i go snorkeling almost every day, here are my 2 cents: i use the trusted spit-in-your-mask-and-rub-it-in-technique but i've found that you shouldn't rinse it too thoroughly, just dip it into the water quickly to rinse out the excess saliva, then put on the mask. sometimes i need to repeat the process once or twice until it works... make sure the whole surface area of the glass was covered in spit, if you miss a spot, the fogging up will start from there and spread.
