Love the suggestion of Smogsteed Rider! I'm in mono-black Burakos, with Haunted One as the background, but I still enjoyed the insights even when a majority didn't affect me

Completely agree that Maskwood Nexus isn’t necessary for party decks - it’s easier to assemble a party than most people think!

I think that might be one of the most affordable budget brews I've seen on the channel so far! Well done! If we're taking this opportunity to highlight strategies that haven't featured much on the channel, I would like to see if we could do a video someday on Hamza, Guardian of Arashin for +1/+1 counters.

I found having Selfless Glyphweaver is also great. you get the selfless spirit ability, plus a option of a board wipe on the other side.

Moriok Rigger is also hilarious, its a 2/2 rogue for 3 cmc and whenever an artifact is put into the graveyard he gets a +1/+1 counter and Forge, Neverwinter charlatan the new rogue from "Honor among thieves" secret is also very bonker, he gets +2/+0 for each treasure you control, has menace and ward: sacrifice a creature and once per turn whenever people sacrifice a creature create a treasure.

I built a mono-black burakos/haunted one deck recently. it is BY FAR my new favorite deck! haunted one triggers when burakos becomes tapped in any way, not only on attack, and undying can be reused over and over if you can remove the +1/+1 counter. these two unique interactions made deck building so fun. so many innocent looking cards become extremely powerful. and in game, there's so many tricks that no one sees coming! 😁

I really like Burakos, treasure generation and the flexibility of a background. I tried using different backgrounds, like Far traveler for more ETBs or Guild Artisan for even more treasures

I built a Burakos modular deck that can swap background and still function pretty well. I have Folk Hero, Sword Coast Sailor, Passionate Archeologist and Cloakwood Hermit as the backgrounds. Every deck functions pretty well but plays differently from each other which is fun.

I've still been running Burakos and Folk Hero as my Cmdr pairing since I bought the deck. I decided against going just a generic party, though, and moved towards a synergistic strategy of life drain and gain. Many of the cards mentioned in the video, such as Astarion and Nadier's, are in the deck. With that, I also run Pontiff of Blight, Blind Obedience, and Life Insurance for extort triggers. I mean, the extra treasures got to go somewhere. I've made many more changes and have found that Burakos makes for a vicious party leader.

Burakos + Folk Hero is a great deck. I love playing it since it was released and the development is never ending. As Joey mentioned, every new set will have some potential new party members to evaluate. I recently have started testing Bubble Matrix and Marionette Master (as finisher). What do you think about these additions?

Surprised not to see more MDFCs in the list. I’m running a ton precisely because the combination of draw & treasure production in the command zone make it easy to flood out on mana. Plus there’s a cleric and a rogue on the front side of a white & black land respectively, which seem perfect here.

Smugglers share actually doesn't usually show how much work it is doing. Other players are doing less in fear of you getting more. You won't actually see what it does.

Maskwood Nexus makes more sense with Nalia as the commander, where the difference between a party of 3 and a party of 4 is a lot more significant. I support removing it. One card I really like is Blackbloom Rogue. It's a land that's also a party creature. Great synergy piece with a low opportunity cost.

Burakos and the guild artisan background is an insane pairing, and in my opinion, the most powerful. Getting a minimum of 3 treasures each attack and a max of 6 is such an insane amount of consistent value, not to mention all the treasure support in black/red like xorn. Having access to harmonic prodigy doubles the burakos and guild artisan trigger to make a max of 12 treasures each turn and pair that up something like combat celebrant and Magda to just go ham. You also get to run things like magus of the moon (a wizard that counts for burakos) and “break parody” by being able to colour fix. Running winter orb is also a possibility if you’re mean enough since you can just rely on your commander to give you all the mana you need, and an added bonus is that aggravated assault goes infinite with burakos and the background so long as he’s generating enough treasures 🤷‍♂️

Oh and you also get to run professional face breaker which is a warrior to turn all those treasures into more cards

Warriors in the deck just feel kind of weak, but one great card that can help fill the role of a warrior is God-Eternal Oketra. You're going to flood the board with 4/4 warriors.

One piece of tech that really does wonders is Dawnglare Invoker. You're already pumping out a bunch of treasures, so 8 mana to tap down everyone else's stuff isn't that big of an ask for this deck. Honestly, I like it way better than Smogsteed Rider. Another card that won't break the bank but is tons of fun is Righteous War. You protect all of your team from at least one of the two best removal colors and your multicolored creatures from both.

I'd love to see a Nalia Upping the Average or a Shadrix Silverquill one. Shadrix being my pet deck (hasn't come apart since I started building it after STX), I always see that they have tons of themes and Shadrix enabling huge plays but leaning on politics instead of just cards makes me think that an UTA episode about him would also pair with the EDHREC cast episodes about playing politically! Orzhov caring about more than just spending/gaining life and aristocrats is such a unique and powerful way to take the color pair. I'm curious to see what Dana and Matt would think about an episode of UTA like that. Great Episode as always today.

This deck is one of my favorites and I have yet to do more than cursory upgrades. Amazing content Joey, you rock After watching through, the discussion on nombos was so compelling to me. All the cards discussed that are like this have so much upside when they are in play that it’s worth the potential downside. A critically different way I like to think about it is that if two busted cards you have in the deck shut each other off, it’s fine to hold one in hand because you are *already doing something busted* if that situation arises. This deck is super scrappy and fun, and playing around a little awkwardness somehow feels flavorful- it’s a dnd inspired deck after all, and it plays like it lol

Does access tunnel work if you activate targeting Burakos, then move to combat and trigger Haunted One?

Yes. Access Tunnel only cares about the power when targeting the creature. After it resolves, the power doesn't matter. Comparatively, Thieves Tools would not work because it says the creature "cannot be blocked as long as its power is 3 or less"

(including himself, he’s kind of like a wildcard that can count for anything) if he needed a full party his rules would stipulate that like in archpriest of iona’s text

Its a set up kinda gameplay and can fall short to most control strategies so it requires mental gymnastics through politics in some tables. Stacks effects to make time are appreciated but can make you a target. I've rad the upgraded version of this up until last month. Very powerful, copying its triggered ability is insane and disciple of the vault type effects too. I'll build this budget version and maybe give it away to a friend.

Doesn't Smogsteed Rider just get blocked and killed? He doesn't give himself Fear and he's just a 2/2. I don't see what's great about getting one extra attack in for the cost of 4 mana and a card. He seems good with Seasoned Dungeoneer and Access Tunnel, but he looks bad on his own. Am I not seeing some synergy?
