Burb Files: Episode 5: We fix that sag in your 1973-1991 Square body doors!!

The suburban has heavy doors and overtime the sheet metal will relax causing a sagging door. Today we fix that using ordinary tools. Also we have a kit for the door striker plates.

Just a little tip, adjusting the body side of the hinge moves the door up and down, adjusting the Door side of the hinge moves the door in and out.

Nice!! Yeah the square body doors are heavy!! The 4 door square door weighs more then the doors on my 67 Tempest and they are long!!! Glad to help!!!

Hey, a tip from someone who works on lots of old trucks. If your getting into old square body repairs they will be standard sizes not metric. At least not that I have found from factory.

Yeah I’ve found that they might be both. I have an 86 F-150 assembled in Canada. Very similar. Half metric 1/2 SAE.. 🤷🏼‍♂️🤦🏼‍♂️go figure..

You know that several standard sizes interchange very closely to metric. 5/16 to 8mm, 7/16 to 11 mm, 1/2 to 13mm, 9/16 to 14 mm. 3/4 interchanges perfectly with 19mm. There are others that are close.

The doors like t9 separate and sag also. My burb door when open if someone lifts you can see the Crack move by the wing window. Had to reweld mine

Just replace the bushing on the latch receiver. That will raise the door line and make it close better.

Replace the pins and bushings, that’s the real issue

True. But this helps even with brand new door hardware.

He lifted the the door itself did you see how it didn’t have any slop, the whole vehicle moved. The pins and bushings are good.
