I like the Burlak, although I want it to be faster, but the so-called "highrange" doesn't help much (and increases the consumption due to an AWD penalty). Tested it in Scandinavia and didn't like it - feels slow on the road, tows trailers barely ever climbing out of 1st gear, weak crane (struggles to lift most cargoes, can't lift 2-slot ones). Tested it in Imandra - and fell in love: so stable, so capable, doesn't give a sh*t about breakable ice and rocks on the shores. I think I now have a favorite heavy scout for towing trailers (when Loadstar fails). Looks like it was made for the exploration prototype trailer (the radar).

Thanks for bringing up the really bad winch points! These pretty much eliminate the advantage of an autonomous scout winch! Did the developers make the Burlak 6x6 too strong? For me, clearly no! His disadvantages and weaknesses have been addressed and they are heavy for a scout! In terms of balancing, Saber did a good job here for me. I'm very happy with the Burlak and I think he's a very good addition to the game, especially because we have so many very weak scouts. Thanks Nathan. UPDATE: After countless hours of testing it has become unusable for me. The missing winch points on the roof make it almost impossible to get upright again. A joke from Saber to the most top-heavy scout ever!

You share most of my thoughts about both of the new scouts. I like the idea of having a scout like the Burlak that can handle all of the super conditions but still has some weaknesses too. When I'm more in the mood for a challenge I'll break out something like the Apache or Neo falcon. When I want to chill more and just cruise I'll use the Tatarin or Burlak. Snowrunner isn't perfect, but it complements all styles of play well. Awesome review Nate, god bless

To me it feels sort of like the Azov Antarctic, in the fact it's a 6x6 that gets a load of wheel spin with Diff's off . I feel like this should have been added oooh idk about phase 1....as in Kola it would have been prefect.

​@@NProvince i mean, given what we had for that phase i would have made Imandra especially feel like less of a slog, but it would have been a nice reward for finishing the bomber contract. Especially given two of the three vehicles we got from that phase ended being way out of their depth. Only the Azov 64131 managed to get me through that phase, with difficulty

I agree with you Nathan! This is a useful scout and more... Sometimes the Burlak feels like the 605R's little sister 😉 I did the cellulose job with it and an offroad scout trailer on the new Scandinavia DLC. So the crane did his job. AWD is not needed often, the diff lock works great, but you need it on an offrad surface. What I really like: It pulls scout and normal trailers. The F750 should do this too. The Neo Falcon is a scout like a scout should be. I explored the second map with him and the "radar" railer. This trailer feels like a brick sometimes...😁 All in all...a great new DLC with two useful vehicles. Stay safe and God bless! Time to watch your Scandinavia videos!

Burlak is a good scout, one of the best but I've asked myself "Did it replace the Tatarin?" And I can say...no. At least not for what the Tatarin does best. Burlak with the engine power issues, difflock not being always on and sluggish pace, it just can't keep up with the Tatarin. Having to drop to low to get that difflock on and crawl through mud is what really made me wince. I was hoping it would be able to keep the pace but it can't. Tatarin is basically easy mode, you don't need to flip to different gears, you don't need to lose forward momentum when traversing to different terrain or bouncing over bumps. It keeps its pace in 5th gear in almost any situation. Burlak will get through more obstacles and terrain than the Tatarin because of it's clearance and that sets it up the list, but I could navigate around those obstacles faster with the Tatarin than the Burlak can plowing through. Burlak requires some finesse to make work the best where Tatarin is more of a 'push the pedal down and go' Though, if I was going to give my thoughts on my favourite scout (not the best scout just my favourite to drive) is that Loadstar. Just fun to bounce around everywhere.

They should give weaker cranes to the Ford F750 and Loadstar, and a stronger crane to the Burlak. It's not that I want the Burlak to be even more powerful and versatile, it's that these three scouts and their cranes are simply… in an unbalanced relationship. If I try lifting any cargo with the Loadstar crane, the Loadstar is too lightweight and will flip. The F750 is stronger, but operating the crane on it and moving cargo around will destabilise the F750, especially if it's anchored on uneven terrain. I didn't expect to say this, but the NeoFalcon 2000 isn't so useless as I initially anticipated. Sure, it's not particularly strong, but I found it to be very pleasant to drive, robust, and rather stable compared to other scouts in the same category size-wise and weight-wise. I think it's a viable option for those who have not purchased the Land Rover and Jeep DLCs. Thanks for the review, Nathan. I was looking forward to it. And thanks for sharing the Burlak's tyre stats. Honestly at this point, idt its a problem they added an OP scout, i mean, the first one we had was the Tuz Tatarin, and still is my choice every time i need to tilt back any truck/scout. the problem i see is, except for some russian trucks, all vanilla ones, and some dlc ones, now feel underpower, and too some extent, out of place. I remember when the first season came out, and man, first phase, that for me was the best one, or at least in the top 3, we did not have many trucks, and the 3 ones they added, fit really nice with the theme they presented. The Tuz 160 was the best one of the 3, the F750 was like that buddy you can always count on and the other Tuz... well, just felt like an inferior version con the 160 (but i still use it when i have the chance, they should have also give it the medium automous winch). Second Phase was ok, but the trucks they added were less fitting. the CAT was not great tbh, the steering is just horrible, not to mention the fact is 2wd, and the Bandit, sure is nice, but is too top heavy and it tilts too easy. phase 3 as a concept could have been one of the best ones, but honestly it was rushed and it shows. the trucks are great, they fit nicely with the whole theme. phase 4 was great, but to this day, i haven´t finish it at full, also, at least for me, that phase gave me the worst time cause AMD updated the graphics drivers and the game crash all the time for me, but that is beside the point. The Ziks was the best of both vehicles phase 5 was ok, not much to say tbh, best truck was the bigger Tatra phase 6 was ok too, a little too much crafting for my taste, but still nice, best truck the amaratsu phase 7 is the worst of them and we can all agree with it, no need for explaining here phase 8 was great, a little boring with the farming, but still is in the top 3 for me, also, the tractor are funny to use. phase 9 was great too, the trucks were great and the fire and gold theme was great. phase 10 was less great for me, the trucks were interesting but had some problems, like you explain about the MACK and phase 11 is really good so far, is a bit more relax than the previous ones. And the Burlak has its place in the theme. Sorry is this long, but in short, theres so many trucks that is hard to add something new and interesting each time, so is normal they have to make new trucks OP compare to the rest, if not, we forget about them and dont use them, or we complain they feel to similar to other ones, remember when the Tayga was "OP", each new truck was compare to it, and now, the Tayga just feels like a worst version of the new ones.

Good points. It is rather late timing on getting a scout of this caliber, my issue is not necessarily in its offroad ability, but the fact that other scouts haven't been given trailer support at all and yet this one gets both

If we could only choose how to place our cargo on our truck (packed), it would be far more convenient and will let us fit much more cargo on the truck/trailer! And btw this scout is only good for having such huge all terrain tires, a crane and a bed, but lacks engine, winch and crane power...

Burlak's tippiness comes from the fact that is is comparatively narrow. To counter it - use Burlak's general ability to negotiate slopes at favourable angles. It can do some ridiculous climbing. The only real issue of Burlak is its speed - and this is the only real downside that puts it below Tatarin as a pure scout in my book. When Tatarin can traverse most standard terrains like they are not even there, Burlak must often slow down - and it is not fast to begin with. That being said - Burlak is supremely versatile - it CAN get virtually everywhere, has sizeable fuel tank with great economy - it can drive for days, does not take damage too easily. There is also one thing that puts it on top - it is easy to obtain, and it is good right out of the box. It is not really dependant on upgrades. And it is supremely versatile - it can do a bit of everything. Sure, it is not premiere mover truck, but it can recover vehicles from tight spots, it can haul small cargo if you need to deliver this one piece of it somewhere in a pinch. Can haul an occasional trailer if you have a chance and don't feel like going back and getting a proper heavy duty vehicle.

if this thing had always on diff lock it would be over. But yeah i dont think its that problematic. Its okay to have some op scouts imo, thats less of an issue. The overpowered heavy trucks are more of a problem. But then again i love them. Using a zikz in amur or a kenworth 963 in yukon isnt too outrageous and still plenty fun. I think people should just use what they want and if they want to use the best trucks only thats fine but they should be aware that it changes the gameplay, just like with mods. I like to use trucks that are just fun for me, im using the derry longhorns a lot and i find a lot of fun in the rwd only trucks like the p16, p512 or w990. And i think the burlak isnt too overpowered, if you flip it there is a good chance you wont be able to flip it back on its wheels and the power isnt great. its also a lot slower in lighter conditions. One thing to change would be to increase its fuel consumption because its ridiculous how little fuel it uses while going through the most insane terrain in the game... But if you put the loadstar and burlak in michigan, the loadstar will get the scouting done a lot quicker and it will probably more fun. So yeah, just depends what map youre on. A lot of the small scouts are obsolete now but i think they always kinda were. The tatarin is still a thing and yar and loadstar and f750 still pretty much destroy the smaller scouts.

I still feel like nothing can beat F750 or Tatarin as scouts and when i need to pull light trailer i just take the Loadstar ... from my side Burlak is fine but nothing that special and Neo .. who dont have jeep this is variant of it ... thats my take on them :D btw great work on vid as always

I found the Neo to be quite useful but, i've only had it on the most recent map. I hated that 6x6 thing at first. It"s ok now. It goes the same speed in reverse as low+ but uses half the fuel...

The burlak coverall is a great truck but I understand with balancing why it has switchables but I would like to see a future upgrade to change that

Seeing the Burlak is a crawler (needs low range), isn't the most stable and is hard to get back back to it's wheels on a roll over, I don't think it's to powerful at all. It's not the Tatarin that will plow though damn near most degrees of mud in 5th gear auto. lol

The Tatarin is just a different beast all in itself. This one is definitely still amazingly strong. I mean I've crossed super conditions in Urksa River relatively quick and easy while only burning about 11-15 gallons. I agree though, when the chips are down i have my money on the tatarin. I know it will stay on its wheels

@@NProvince Yeah I just finished using it to scan out the left over dark spots in Kola for no reason. (just gradually been cleaning up the maps, so far I only found 1 scout fuel trailer I missed in Island Lake. Been a whole lotta nothing in the rest of the dark areas so far. lol) If you keep it on flat ground the Burlak is great for mud and snow. But while there aren't many slanty areas in Kola, there are some, going across that slanted icy path ended up with me needing to go bring some Tatarin aid. I think the Burlak would be pretty horrible on maps with lots of sideways slants like Season 7, not that anybody plays Season 7, but still. lol

Idk, the burlak always felt extremely tippy. It also feels extremely front heavy. It’s not my favorite scout, and I think I’ll stick to the F-750. Not to say it doesn’t have a bunch of features that I like. I like the studded tires, swappable trailer hitch, and repair points in the vehicle interior. It’s just that it doesn’t feel nearly as nice to drive as something like the F-750 or even the Crocodile.

I've developed a bit of a love-hate relationship with the Burlak. It'll go just about anywhere, until it rolls over. It will roll over. Once it does roll your only hope is to have another vehicle because the winch will not save you. Problem is if I have to use the Burlak to get somewhere, then nothing else really can get there.

Thats a very good point. Thats kinda what I've been saying on stream about it is; it can get to some crazy areas, but if/ when you tip. Its too hard to flip over unless terrain angle is on your side or you have another vehicle. Whats the use of having an autonomous winch then if another truck needs to save you

@@NProvince Potentially useful in multi-player, get something more stable and smaller like a conventional scout along side it. Burlak pulls the smaller scout through the tough areas, and the smaller one gets in to the tighter spaces and acts as the Burlak flipper when (not if but when) the thing inevitably rolls.

Hey can you confirm that with this latest DLC/patch that you can be driving a vehicle, being towed behind an un-piloted front vehicle, but the front vehicle seems to turn in the same direction you are in the rear vehicle. Maybe this was added earlier, but i've only noticed it after the scandinavia DLC, or maybe the mud ruts on this DLC are just good and directing vehicles.

I personally have never done this, but only to get unstuck. The vehicle in front will mirror the truck that is piloted. I believe whether behind or ahead, the truck without a drive will mirror what the driver does.

Burlak is by far one of the best scouts for regions like Kola and Amur. Just uh, don't tip over when out there all alone with no backup in sight.

I do love the burlak, but its been a while since I drove a scout (or any truck) in the game that tips as often as the burlak likes to do.. Did you do any testing on stability with its flatbed vs slanted btw?

Well I'm in Aegis trying to unlock the 2 watchtowers and it can't fit through the small gap in the rock. So no it's not the best scout. Not at all. The strongest scouts can take shortcuts and explore much faster unless you talk about Amur or Kola. It is the strongest scout by far though. Stronger than most regular trucks also.

Winch strength is actually heavily weighted on vehicle weight, but yes you are correct the base strength would increase. I feel its winch points are too narrow to even help with angles to pull it back to its wheels

Saber is so lazy, they aren't getting my money anymore. They are just selling all the content being developed for their next game as half assed DLC in this game. They cannot even bother to sell scandinavian trucks in the scandinavian DLC just as they could not bring themselves to make a meta American truck, instead they had to put a Tayga in Maine and make the Derry Special unstable asf with high fuel consumption. I just wanted more truck modification in vanilla with a light scout overhaul. I just wanted them to eliminate the difference between normal and scout trailers by adding a ball/pintle hitch part. I just wanted the ability to customize truck frame weight, stiffness, and fuel tank size, or to mount whatever mechanical stuff I want to the truck like axles, wheel spacers for wider wheelbase, engines, etc. I just wanted roofracks for every vehicle and better utility addons. I just wanted to be able to paint my crane and have more log cranes/claw loaders.
