One thing I always appreciate about this song is that Eliza attacks not Alex, but his writing. The one thing throughout his life Alex could rely on was his writing. That's his source of pride. His greatest tool. Deadliest weapon. He destroyed a Presidency with his words. So she attacks it. Senseless. Paranoid. Obsessive. That's where it'd hurt. She both figuratively and literally burns and tears his writing to pieces. Rather than hit him or yell she tears apart what makes Alexander himself. Wonderful storytelling and a wonderful animatic!

I love this animatic because most burn animatics picture Eliza as ‘crazy’ if you will, and make her to be very tantalizing as she burns letters in front of Hamilton, smiles, etc.. But this animatic is so beautifully pictured because you actually make Eliza appear to be filled with emotion, and to be truly sad, while yet still maintaining her strong posture.

Tbh the crazy part is what makes her relatable. If you always keep going on telling yourself things will get better eventually,when you see all that's happening and ignoring it for the hopefully better future like Eliza did (I mean..she saw how he charmed women,she saw how he looked at Angelica) and then you get your worst thoughts presented to you BY THE ONE YOU LOVED but not even personally but through a public letter you casually read...I mean HOLY..who wouldn't get a little insane at that? I always just thought "you should've gotten over it" and now that I understand, I feel like shit. This song...and this animatic really helped me understand the fucking pain of this. Beautiful, simply beautiful. I have an idea to make this more tragic. Eliza locks herself in her room and sets the room on fire while burning the letters, while Alexander sees the fire, and you can see him running to the room. He tries desperately to open the door as Eliza stands there crying while singing, and the letters are floating around her, once Alexander breaks down the door, he sees Eliza crying just in time to say "I hope that you burn" then collapse. Hamilton picks her up and runs away from the fire

Burn is so different then First Burn but they both have the same meaning and they both have a sad feeling and they’re both about how Hamilton was being a jerk but they both have a deep feeling that everyone needs to acknowledge.

Ok I love how the song sort of flips the emotional emphasis of “when you were mine” from being Eliza being lucky to have him be hers to by the end of the song it being framed as Alexander having had, part tense, the absolute privilege of being hers.
