i swear hamilton the musical taught me more about american history (at least for the time period of the revolutionary war) than any US history class ever did
@YufustheDufus Жыл бұрын
u heard about Richard Henry Lee? George Mason? Robert Moriss? Peyton Randolph? Roger Sherman? Andrew Adams? Jacob Broom? Pierce Butler? i could keep going on but a majority of founding fathers are never taught about, apart from George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, Samuel Adams, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, and maybe John Hancock. For my school, even in elementary school, I was taught of George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, and Alexander Hamilton. Alexander Hamilton was one of the only founding fathers I knew before Hamilton and up until recently did I find out that there were 55 founding fathers, with seven being Key Founding Fathers; and of the Key Founding Fathers, Hamilton was defintely taught less than the others, except maybe John Jay but I wouldn't say he was one of the founding fathers that schools taught the least about, he's at most top 10 most taught founding fathers out of 55. Plus, Alexander Hamilton was one of the most taught founding fathers in my AP US class alongside George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, and John Adams. Hamilton was even mentioned more than people like James Madison, John Adams, and especially Benjamin Franklin. Benjamin Franklin was only mentioned a few times with people such as John Jay and Samuel Adams being brought up more. I'll argue that Alexander Hamilton is arguable the 2nd most important founding father behind George Washington, so it is important to teach more about him. A really interesting founding father for me who is never talked about is defintely Gouverneur Morris, go check him out, he's pretty cool. p.s. Jefferson sucked :/

It’s sad that Eliza is just seen as “Alexander Hamilton’s wife”. She has done so much and yet she gets nothing. When she said “Have I done enough” it was only for Alexander, she wanted his story to be heard, he helped build the Washington monument, and went against slavery. This women has my respect. She has also gone through so much pain, she lost her siblings (most of them died during birth), most of her children, and parents. Only three of her kids outlived her.

Eliza is kinda the true hero of Hamilton’s story in the end. Eliza could of just told the world that Alexander was a terrible person (not saying he is)or she could have just not told the world his story and stayed quiet, but she chose to tell the world his story and at that told the world he was great. Also in the process told the world the story of some of his friends. Hamilton could never have reached his success in the way that he did without her IMO (many historians agree). I love how in the show she goes from asking to be a part of the narrative to taking agency to remove herself from it. In the end she didn’t just put herself back into the narrative of the story. She became basically the author of it. That's my interpretation of the gasp at the end. She asks will all her work be enough, for the world to tell Hamilton's story and then she sees the audience.

A very changed version of the story. In the song Aaron Burr, it states the year was 1776, and that Ham was 19. In 1776 the youngest he could have been was 20, not 19. Also, Lafeyette never met Mulligan in real life. Also, Burr and Lafeyette are both a year younger than him (that one is more of a fun fact). And Mulligan was actually 10 years older than Ham

Fun fact: Do you know how in: “Burn”, Eliza burns all of her letters that she received from Alexander Hamilton while she was cutely lovesick during “helpless” after he cheated on her with Mariah Reynolds? Well, A. She was smart to attack his writing, other than himself with words. He took great pride in his writing, as you might know from the repetitive line “writes like he’s running out of time”. That’s kind of what hit him hard, one of the small amounts of things that could hurt him. She knew how life worked, man! B. She kept one of the letters in her pocket and carried it around with her everywhere until she died. I guess no matter how bad Alexander gets, she’s not ready to just let him go. You can tell that she was really in love, and she wasn’t ready to throw that all away, so she saved part of the relationship and carried it everywhere, almost as if she was keeping it alive. That might also be why she forgave him.

Fun Fact: At the end of this song (and therefore the end of the show), Eliza is led to the front of the stage by Hamilton, she looks up and she audibly gasps before the lights go out and the show ends. Although many people believe this simply represents her taking her last breath before her death, or an expression of joy at finally being reunited with Alexander, there is an amazing fan theory that it's not Hamilton leading her to the front of the stage, but Lin-Manuel Miranda (or whoever is playing Hamilton in whatever performance you see), and the gasp is an expression of awe at the sight of the audience. The theory is that Eliza is being shown that all her work was worth it. That the cast are telling her "you did it. You told his story. And now thanks to you, we can tell both his story, and your's."

For anyone that doesnt know, eliza orphange still stands to this day and is called graham windman, and it is still an orphange now. It is a private nonprofit orphange and was supposed to close during the pandemic but ended up staying open! It is in brooklyn, new york.

A sad fact: Lafayette and Mulligan came back to New York to help Eliza with the grief and her orphanage. They where also a big part in telling Alexander's story. If anything those two, Eliza and Angelica told his story together. Up until Angelica Hercules' deaths in 1814 and 1825 where Lafayette continued to help Eliza until he finally died in 1834 and was taken back to France and buried there. He also got his eldest son (George Washington De Lafayette) to plant American soil on his grave. Eliza was then left with her many children (especially Alexander Jr and James) to keep his legacy alive. A fun fact to not ruin your day: While looking at the letters Alexander and Laurens wrote to eachother, James Hamilton has to censor very much of them before publishing them as they included many, *many* penis jokes.

Fun/sad fact: Eliza out lives all of her kids before she died and she lives to be 97 years old and remember this takes place during the late 17, early 1800’s so living to 50 even was a big deal but living to 97 that was very hard to achieve since they didn’t have any modern medicine

@shadowplanthead3725 жыл бұрын
Her story is Hamilton’s cuz they are so interchangeable with each other and they were so connected. Her story starts with marrying Alexander and ends with her own death but it truly starts after Alexander’s death because she was far more important because Hamilton’s legacy past then is hers.
@fallen_star23195 жыл бұрын
She also spent her time makng sure that a man who did his damnedest to save a country he fought and killed for was remembered, that a man who spent ages supporting her in her grief and stayed by her side when it was most important was remembered. Did you know the divorce and separation rate of couples who lose a child is approximately 90%? To support someone you love, rather than leave because they remind you of the loved one you lost, is incredible and takes an immense amount of dedication. Granted, I may be biased. I've seen that kind of dedication in person, after my cousin's death at 16.

this song makes me cry every time, and when i start crying the most is whenever Eliza mentions the Orphanage. She was an amazing human, she raised her children and hundreds more, and she even forgave Hamilton after he cheated on her.

The story behind this is amazing. This IS REAL LIFE. Eliza lived a whole life.... Out of everyone she was the only person left. She did SO MUCH. She is the reason the musical was made. No one would even bother to know about Alexander if if wasn't for her. This animatic shows EXACTLY how hard she worked. She was the only one left... But she was never satisfied. In her house she kept a head statue of Alexander she paid to get carved. She also had a Drink machine they were given by George Washington. And that's barely even all of it. This animatic is beautiful.

If she worked so hard for everyone to know Alexander, then how come I have never heard of any of them before watching the musical?
@e-mail26737 жыл бұрын
(i might be talking loads of bullshit right now, but that's just what i think it is,,,, sorry about that) Angelica said in the song: Every founding father gets to grow old. As hard as Eliza worked, it's inevitable that with time people will forget about you some day. He's been dead for ~260 years now. With time, people will start forgetting about Lin and his musicals too, unless someone "revives" it, like he did with Alexander. If it wasn't for Eliza and her hard work, even that probably wouldn't be happening.
@gloombunnyedits14927 жыл бұрын
One Ara Because you don't pay attention. 7th grade you learn EVERYTHING about the American Revolution. That building in the animation is in Washington D.C. and I've been to it before. This also took place in the 1800's so none of them are alive anymore in the 21st century.

Eliza is the example of pure kindness. She told everyone’s story so she forgot her own. She was with her husband thick and thin. She raised lots of kids. From her own family to a whole orphanage. She was so loyal and kind. She had a good family because of _her_ . She raised them _properly_ . She was a good mother, friend, sister, and most importantly: Wife. Even though her husband cheated, she still loved him. Elizabeth Schuyler Hamilton, You truly are an inspiration to all of us. Thank you for everything. R.I.P 😭

Eliza has to be the sweetest person in the entire play. She tells everyone’s story,she tells Hamilton’s story even though he had an affair with someone else she still told his story. She built the first private orphanage in New York knowing that Hamilton was an orphan and knowing if Hamilton was still alive at the time he would do that. For 50 years she stayed a widow and never got married again and helped on Hamilton’s legacy. Eliza is the true hero in the story
