A scrap piece of Cherry Plum, or as contributor Tuffy Marginez calls it, a box filler. Just curious what this little piece could become. I mounted it up and voila'! We have a cute little live edge bowl. The natural bark, cracks and voids just really make this piece special.

Hi Phil. I had to scroll through the list of comments to see if I had given one yet. I say 'yet' because I have been over & over this video because I wanted to see what I thought I could see in its development. Each time I could only marvel at what you achieved. Your commentary, your desire to bring about the best possible result, together they showed your empathy with ALL pieces of wood that you work with but I think none better than this piece. As you watch you cannot help but feel what you are thinking. The result is a fabulous piece & I don't think anyone could view this & not marvel & agree with all the decisions that you made. What a privilege to watch such a beautiful piece evolve & thank you SO much. Don from South Aust.

Howdy Phil Plum is always look so nice when turned . That Howards feed and wax always make it look great too . I actually threw a piece of oak in the fire one time and when I was looking it I saw it was a burl and took it out ....a lot of burn on it but it was a large " all nighter " . I turned it , made a pepper mill , sliced it " re sawed " made a small jewelry box . Turned a few pens still have pieces left . That was about 15 years ago !! I do not burn anymore but have many pieces I have saved from the fire . Neighbor bought some wood from me and I have got most back for turning ...a lot of the yellow Locust I have mention . keep on turnin'

You are very good at what you do. You are also the funniest turner on the net. "I have a whole other hand" I looked at the 8 stitch scar in my finger and burst out LoL. Firewood, I have two stack near the wood stove. One that asks what can I make with these and the other which I have yet to sort out on the way to the stove. Good thing it hasn't been that cold! Pity me, I've only been turning for 2 years.

Another great little piece of wood art. What timing. My neighbor brought over a piece of firewood. It is form his plumb tree trimmings. It was about 10" X 5" I cut it in half. the first half I did an end grain. there were a lot of cracks and punky wood but is working out nice. The other half I was going to do the side grain. After watching your video I will leave more of the bark. Again so inspiring and educational. Thanks Phil

Another little beauty, Phil. My shop is heated by a wood stove, and it seems like a lot of pieces of wood that I collect to make into something end up making several trips in and out of the firewood box. I'll collect the piece of root wood or whatever, then some time later decide I'll never use it and throw it into the firewood box, then later still see it in there and decide maybe it will be good to make into something after all and put it back on a shelf ... and so on. Some of my favorite pieces have been made from wood that's spent time in the firewood box.
