You're welcome Ed and have fun with that cooker!! I love mine and it does a pretty good job! It has a few issues but overall a very good cooker that seems to get better as they are continuing to make small adjusts to it on the production line!! Have fun and get some protein in that beast ASAP!! Have a great weekend!

Just purchased this smoker/grill yesterday. Just found your channel today. Yesterday, I did my burn off but wish I had seen your video before now. I thought it was burning hot and didn't know how to calibrate the thermostat...tomorrow, I will open the stacks a little bit as my smoker was the floor model and I bet they tightened those suckers....and then I will order a ink bird wireless thermometer and test it out. I just upgraded from a elect smoker to this and am excited to use it!

Awesome Rhonda!! This is a very nice cooker for sure!! My advice is that mine runs from the pit to the controller about 50 degrees hotter that what the pit temp probe says. The other thing I suggest you dump and burn out the remaining pellets in the auger after hotter cooks. Other than that this thing does a great job and I have been very please with its performance!! Enjoy and this will certainly give a fantastic flavor to your cooks!! Thanks for joining the Dead Broke BBQ family!! Be safe!

Well I have had 1 issue with an auger jam and they felt it was a bad igniter and sent me a new one. After I replaced it mine has ran like a champ but I still dump the pellets after every high temp cook. Now I like the cooking chamber a lot more than my pit boss and I love that sear zone. Over all if I had to choose from just 1 I would take the Rider just because of the chamber it self! Hope this helps Dave!?!? Thanks for watching!!

So if I'm understanding you right... open the chimney to lower the heat and close to raise? Still trying to get my Ryder 600 Dialed in after years with a Weber kettle where opening vents raised the temp!
@DeadBrokeBBQ
@DeadBrokeBBQ 4 жыл бұрын
Yes if you close a vent the heat will stay in there and open it the heat escapes. Pellets are controlled with a fan on the fire pot so it is different than opening a vent. to get more air flow over the flame. Now that is for the DLX. On my Pellet Pro that fan is controlled and blows harder if the the temp lowers and stops if it reaches temp. Thanks for watching!!

Folks, I've seen many great video reviews on the Rider DLX but I've tried two of them in the last 4 months and both were basically a 400 pound paperweight. Quality control is Oklahoma Joes biggest problem. Their products are sourced and built in CHINA. The first attempt was a total wreck as nothing on the grill was originally assembled properly. The door hung crooked and was almost 3/4 inch off leaving openings in the corners and was not fixable without welding. The hopper door rubbed against the body of the grill and was not adjustable. The handle used to dump the pellets was completely jammed. I did get am email from OJs wanting to help me fix the hopper release, completely ignoring the assembly issues. I posted a review with photos OJ website. I returned that grill, but because I thought I did my homework I bought a second one thinking there's no way I can get two bad ones. Well, I had the second for about a month. Everything seemed to be working fine. This last Sunday I started the grill and went in to finish prepping two racks of pork ribs. Went back out to check the grill and the temperature read 134 degrees. After poking around I learned that the grill was cooling down because the auger quit. There were no pellets moving or burning. Its my opinion that you have a 50/50 chance every time you turn on this paperweight that it will work properly. If you like troubleshooting or disassembling your grill as opposed to cooking on it get a Rider DLX. Donna I feel your pain.

Sounds like you have the luck of the Irish, not. Mine has ran great and I use it all the time off camera also. I did have to replace the ignitor but other than that mine runs like a champ. Well there are few American made pellet grills made but not for $600. So for an entry level pellet grill the Rider is still a great cooker but there has been a few people that have had issues with theirs. Have a great week and good luck on your hunt for the next cooker!

You got some great lookin’ legs! The Rider looks like a great choice for pellet grills. I really like that dial knob to set it with. Looks way better than buttons or a key pad or the little small radio dial knobs that some pellet cookers have. That control knob looks like it’s in control! I really liked the bluegrass music when you put the chicken on. One of my issues with pellet grills is the noise they make a lot of them are really loud. So loud that neighbors can not only smell what you are barbecuing but they can hear it. How loud (much noise) does this OK Joe have compared to other pellet grills that you have experienced? Also the adhesive on the labels, especially the inside one appears to be serious stuff!
@DeadBrokeBBQ
@DeadBrokeBBQ 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Lew!! Yes I like the big dial also but I wish I could have more control at the tempetkres I could pick but that type of controller would add some serious cost to this cooker. The Rider is quieter than the Pit Boss and the Traeger that I have used. Might have something to do with the heavier built chamber?!?! Yes the sticker was an issue but the Rep said they have addressed it so moving forward it should be a lot easier to take off. If I would have just thought to run it a bit to heat it up some I think it would have came off a lot easier. First time I have had a sticker on the inside of a pit though. So far Lew I really like this cooker and I honestly think for the money it has to be one of the best options out in the market right now!! Thanks for watching bro and stay safe!!
@Toefoo100

I ended up watching this even though I've had one for about a week now and really like it However, I've had a few serious issues. This morning I when to start a smoke at 6am with it being around 29F outside when I tried the control knob it was a little stuck at first but I got it to move. It turned out that the internal rotary switch connections must have froze and broke, because the only the controller would take change temps was by shorting the switch connections on the circuit board. Luckily thanks to the good customer service they plan on sending me a replacement controller soon Since you said you have worked with it in the cold weather have you had any problems with it yet? Another issue I had while doing a long brisket smoke was multiple grease fires starting on that steel cover over the burn chamber. I don't know if its bad design or if I just didn't put the brisket in the right place something

@DeadBrokeBBQ
@DeadBrokeBBQ 4 жыл бұрын
I would have to look at the fire pot but the heat deflector is stainless. There is a cover over the fire pot and that is steel but I think the pot itself might be stainless. Sorry been a while since I put this together and to get to the pot itself you got to take off the sear and smoke dampener. But for the most part this is pretty solid construction for a pellet cooker. Thanks for watching and have a great weekend!!

@kevengw
@kevengw 4 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure this is a good question, or that it actually makes a difference or matters, but have you seen a difference in the heat deflector setup? I feel like the flat deflector style type you see lik in the pitmasters and others might give you a larger better heat source and dispersion, but at the sacrifice of a high heat sear ability, have you seen anything like that?
@DeadBrokeBBQ
@DeadBrokeBBQ 4 жыл бұрын
Well from the low N slow cooks I have done so far Keven I have not used the lower grate yet but I will be doing a pork butt soon. Unfortunately you won't see that video for a few weeks. I got other cooks that are coming on video first. For the whole chamber I will say it has the same cooking temps as other like my Pit Boss. Now I always rotate on my protein so stuff gets done all around the same time on any cooker I use. So far this cooker is the most versatile on the market and it is priced to sell. Great question bro! @DeadBrokeBBQ
@DeadBrokeBBQ 4 жыл бұрын
The Ok Joe is more evenly temped in the chamber compared to the Pit Boss. The Pit Boss I never had an auger jam but I have had one on the Rider. But with that being said it happened after an extremely high temp cook at over 675° and that was blazing hot for a pellet grill!! I got some burn back and I think the cool down is not really long enough so when I cook high temp I just dump and burn out my auger tube of pellets now. There are way more accessories for the Rider and my guess more coming. So if I had to pick just one for both grilling and smoking I am going to lean towards the Rider DLX but I have cook a tom of protein on the Pitt Boss and it never failed to satisfy!! Hope this helps Dan!! Thanks for watching and have a great week!

Thanks for da great videos eh? I wish I could type yooper, it would be a limited crowd. Hey anyhow, what's your take on cleaning? I couldn't be more on the fence on which one to buy. I almost bought a Camp Chef today until I found out their "zero percent" financing for 3, 6, or 12 months was B.S. To their defense, it's the finance company who gets ya hooked then says "the zero percent is for 3 or 6 month terms". There is no zero percent for 12 months. They sneak in the fine print that it's 28% interest for 12 months. That's a 175 bucks i could use on meat bro! Took a DLX apart at the Farm store. just a little concerned about all the moving parts in the middle versus the one plate on the camp chef. Your thoughts?
@DeadBrokeBBQ
@DeadBrokeBBQ 4 жыл бұрын
Well the sear & smoke baffle seems so far to work pretty decent. I think there will be some wear and tear on it eventually. Now I do like the design and how it works. The sear zone is ginormous and it produces some very high temps which makes this a grill and a smoker. I have a lot more testing to do on it but everything that has come off it so far has turned out great. So if you are looking for a cooker that is versatile the Rider DLX sure does off many different options and a good bang for your buck. Hope this helps and thanks for watching!!

@DeadBrokeBBQ
@DeadBrokeBBQ 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Papa! I think you made the right choice. They are both good pellet grills and have similar features but the Rider is just a little better at the grilling part. Now one thing you should practice is on higher temp cooks dump the pellets and burn off the rest of them that are in the auger. Once I dump the pellets I just crank it up to high heat and this also helps burn off a little extra debris. Then as the temp starts to drop I turn it to the cool down mode. This step adds a little more time but better than an auger jam. Plus the hopper is a little smaller so you need to just check that a little more than on the 1100. Now if I had my choice to pick one I would pick the OK Joe simple because of the sear zone!! Have fun and be safe!!

Hi Donna it sounds like you have an auger jam which is caused by some burn back of the pellets in the auger. Here is a video from Dan to help you clear it. kzbin.info/www/bejne/j4u0qomClsljesU Here is what I do so I don’t ha e to worry about burn back jams. As the cook is done I dump the pellets turn the Rider up to high grilling and burn out the remainder of the pellets in the auger for 10 mins and then I turn it to cool down. Yes it is extra work but much less than removing the hopper. Hope this helps and the Rider is a cooking beast but there need to be some type of adjustment to the control. Have a great weekend!

I would buy this grill because of its build quality except for the cheap and unreliable auger system. I phoned the factory and asked about the auger jams and they said they will supply parts under warranty but no labour. Oklahoma Joes put out a video how to tear their grill apart if you have issues. It seems it is not if but when you will have auger jams and start up problems...who wants to be dealing with that on a weekend day when you have big plans for a get together with family and friends.. who wants to have grill parts strewn over their patio on a weekend when they are supposed to be grilling and having fun. Only a two year warranty...it is almost a guarentee that after two years you will be paying for parts and labour to fix these things after the short warranty period....if Pit Boss can have a five year warranty then why can't Oklahoma Joes? The answer is these grills have inherent auger issues with cheap feed motors and plastic gears that jam and break down often. Oklahoma Joes needs to step up and upgrade and fix these problems and come out and tell people what they have done to address the inherent problems with this grill and show they stand behind their product with a five year warranty showing they have done the work to make this grill a worthy purchase. Until that happens I won't buy one and neither should anyone else. They recommend cleaning out the pellet hopper and auger everytime you use it to prevent problems...that results in a 20 minute start up time which is unacceptable to most of us...our time is worth money too and that is unacceptable. When I want to start my Pit Boss I go out, open the lid, push the power button, turn the dial to smoke, walk away for a few minutes to prepare my meat, come back, slap the meat on the grill, close the lid and walk away...less than 5 minutes and never a delay, never a failure, no fuss, no muss, no jams, no stripped gears, no spoiled party plans. If Traeger, Pit Boss and many others can do it why can't Oklahoma Joes? Oklahoma Joes grill has many features I like and I would buy it for those features but I won't buy it because of the jamming and stripping gear issues. If Oklahoma Joes came out and said we have upgraded the feed auger motor and addressed the jamming issues and any other issues with cheap offshore components and said now we are so confident in the build quality and performance of our grill that we are prepared to supply a 5 year warranty...I would go out and buy one in a heart beat...until that happens I will never buy one that is going to give me trouble time after time because of cheap components or other design issues. Step it up Oklahlma Joe...we want your grill but you need to #1. Fix it.. #2 stand behind your product with a five year warranty which will tell us we will be happy with your product, will not have start up or performance issues ...and.. you stand behind it! Until you do that you will always be a runner up when in fact if you stepped up your game you could be a leader in the field. Hire me....The DLX will be an industry leader in less than one year!..apparently, currently, you don't have the technical talent to achieve this or it would have already happened. Best of luck to Oklahoma Joes...step up, take control and make this grill not only reliable but one of the most sought after pellet grills in the world!

I just posted the New Gen 2 Rider DLX assembly and soon I will be doing the burn off seasoning on it. They have updated the auger and a couple other features. The OG was their first pellet grill and not bad for their first. I had 2 jams but once I figured out to just dump the pellets and let a few burn out of the auger I never had any issues. But I have had other pits jam up before. My old Traeger Pro 22 did it and I have other people in the comments tell me their Pit Boss's jammed up too. But hopefully now with the bigger auger motor the DLX gen 2 will not have that issue anymore! Thanks for watching!
