👉 UPDATED VERSION OF THIS TUTORIAL HERE: • 🔥 *UPDATED* BURN PICT...
In this Cricut Tutorial for Beginners, I'm showing you how to burn pictures into wood with your Cricut! This is an easy, step by step Cricut tutorial that you can use with the Cricut Joy, Cricut Explore Air 2, or Cricut Maker! This is a really cool technique with the Ammonium Chloride that can be used to chemically burn / brand photos, designs, monograms, etc. into wood without a wood burning kit and without a branding iron! This is a GREAT scorch pen / scorch marker alternative!!
UPDATE ON WOOD BURNING!
Hey y’all! Since putting out my wood burning video, I’ve been working with various wooden surfaces for other videos. I’ve found that when the wood has more of a “porous” / splinter-ey feel to it (yes, I just made up that word 😂) even with the thick-it it can tend to bleed a little. A GREAT solution that I’ve found for that is just giving the wood a light sand with something like 220 grit sandpaper until it feels SUPER smooth. Doing that virtually eliminated all of the bleeding! I hope that helps!
🚨 CONTEST IS NO LONGER RUNNING
Ammonium Chloride is relatively safe and the wood you chemically burn with it "should" be food safe after washing off any leftover residue, but please do your own research before attempting this.

I have seen a couple of your tutorials and I just love them. I wanted to share a little tip that I have used many times myself. I see that you tend to create a template to help you to get your image size just perfect for your project, however you delete your template. I do the same thing when I am working in design space but instead of deleting my template, I center my image onto my template then I attach the two and cut the image along with my template. This helps with two things; 1. Placement of my image onto my project 2. I don’t have to cut my stencil off of the carrier sheet, therefore it makes the weeding process a lot easier, for me at least. I also have my entire project covered minus the area that I wish to get the color change. I really hope that I explained that in an easy to understand manner. I am a new subscriber to your channel and am looking forward to seeing more of your inspirational projects! Thank you!

It’s called a scorch marker. 😊 however, you’re not going to really be able to stop the solution from spreading very much with it. With ammonium chloride + thick it on top of a stencil you’re going to get much cleaner lines. 😊

Once the ammonium chloride is washed off it should be safe, but be sure to do your research on that!

I tried cornstarch and it didn't work. Because it makes a non-newtonian fluid (turns into a solid when it moves). But I found a cheap item that works. If you add metamucil in, and let it sit. It thickens, and works perfect. It's typically cheaper than food and beverage thickeners. Just make sure the one you get doesn't say non thickening

Just subscribed to your channel. Truly enjoyed this video I’ve had my cricket for a few years but had no idea we could burn via a stencil. Quick question are you able to keep the thickened ammonia chloride in a jar and use it for later projects. I know it doesn’t take much at a time and in hopes we can make a “batch and keep using it. Thanks.

Do you have any tips & tricks for this? Just followed your directions and not wholly sure why, but it was an epic fail. Will try another mix with the ammonium chloride, a bit of starch and nearly no water, maybe that will give success.

Ok mine failed! I bought a lazy suzan with coating, sanded it off, like yours put light stain on it. Waited a day, mixed the solution like you said (purchased the brands you suggested) left it on until it dried. Used heat and the only thing that happened was the stain peeled up and burned no color burn showed up.🥺 what did I do wrong 😔?

Don't know how much the thickener was but you probably could have used corn starch, or maybe even flour

Ok, it turned out great and you just made an awesome food serving tray however, is it food save? I mean you applied heat to it and it burned into the wood doesn't that raise a red flag? Yea this title is misleading hate to say (BURN PICTURES & DESIGNS INTO WOOD WITH ANY CRICUT CUTTING MACHINE)

Help! LOL. I wonder what I did wrong. Is it possible to let the ammonium chloride mixture sit too long where it makes it hard to then burn? My wood round was very difficult to burn. In fact, I started burning areas of the wood that I did not want and now they are blotchy. I also started pulling sap out of the wood. I'm not giving up on this cool process though. I did forget the mixture sitting on the wood so I wonder if it sat too long. That's the only thing I can think of that I did differently.

Hello. Planning to buy a ready-made cheeseboard and then using infusible ink to add my friend's name....do you think it will work? Just afraid that when she washes the board after use the ink will wash away. Or worse, transfer on the food

I tried this, using exactly the same ingredients. The wood would burn with my new heat gun, but no matter how much heat, the stencil would not turn color. It stayed shiny. Any suggestions as now I have all this stuff, sure would like it to work. Thanks

i have a cricut explore air 2 machine, and honestly it is terrible...the red light keeps flashing on and on and the amount of vinyl that gets wasted. I think my gemini crafters companion is much better value for money.
