@@SA-oq5lz Of course it's gonna be easier for the UK to be culturally aware because all the foreigners there are first generation British. It only makes sense for it to be rich with culture as it hasn't been washed out throughout the years like America's has. And to put things into perspective, we talking about the UK (which is the size of Arizona in the states, theoretically) where it's easier for these things to travel versus the whole entire U.S.

Although I understand the sentiment behind his comment, as a descendant of enslaved Africans taken to Cuba, where I was born, I have to say that those of us impacted by slavery will never be able to connect in the way an African born in Africa or even a first generation African born outside of Africa can. We can do our research, travel to Africa, embrace the music and the culture..but there will always be a missing link. Anyway, can't wait to see him live in DC!

So I am a black woman from America and fortunately for me I know my roots but what Burna said is real, alot of Americans dont know their roots. Its pretty sad. I didn't really like his comment at first but sadly he's right. That's why it's important for our youth to know their history. Keep preaching Burna, but please dont dont say we arent royal because we have Kings and Queens out here too. ❤

It occurred to me that his comment there may have come off as harsh to American ears, however I think he was trying to speak to the strength of the diaspora in the UK as opposed to the US were unfortunately AA had their roots and connections stripped away from them, it may be more an observational point on his part. Your royalty is fully recognised over here in Africa sis.

I really appreciate your words, however me as an African who also knows and understands my root and culture want to add that... I don't really think the rest of the black world really appreciate the importance of what The Great African in the Americas, esp the African American (US). I'm sorry whilst we all suffered as black people so much was achieved for all African through the African America. They were able to build a modern African in North, South, Central and Caribbean America. So many moves that allowed all black people to begin to emancipate themselves. So whilst it may seem like Black Americans need educating about self, so too do the Africans on the continent and 1st generation highly ignorant and idiotic and self grandiose Africans. I say this bcoz we as Black people's need to appreciate that this stuff ain't no one sided equation. Peace.

Julie was right, black/African Americans (only put the slash because we can identify ourselves as both) only say that because we’re a mix of west Africa and we weren’t granted the privilege of knowing where exactly we are from in Africa whether it be Nigeria, Ghana, Benin, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Senegal, Togo, etc. We know oh trust we know just can’t get specific so yeah I say I’m from Florida. Now with that being said I have done a DNA test through African ancestry and know the exact tribe all the women on my mothers side descends from, but not everyone has the money to buy one test let alone 4 tests to breakdown their full DNA code.

Burna is a forceful voice of wisdom and truth, what I love about this gifted artist is his music genre and how his influence is mixed with past artist especially Femi - he keeps his head high and culturally intact. I wanted to go to his concert but the tickets were sold out a shame but not a loss. I play his music in the morning to give me spiritual grace - the words are mind opening and opens some of the hidden history that are not spoken about. My desire is to go to Ghana and I will. As an African American, I appreciate Burna. He understands and respects the African American history, and why we have the psychological and physical challenges of today. His perspective helps opens our eyes and brings us back to the awareness of who we really are. We are not low level, ignorant, worthless people. We are African kings and queens who have been stolen, harmed, envied, and continuously mistreated and put down. Despite that fact however, as the amazing African American poet Maya Angelou said, “Still I rise!”
