@@sandra-RUOK (Joan here, not Brian). Not a problem due to immigration. Lack of housing is a problem because it has become a commodity" for investors. Combine that with depressed wages and the impact is devastating. Not sure about B.C. but in Toronto close to 50% of all condos built were scooped up by investors looking to make a profit. I suspect it is the same in Vancouver. Housing (and food, clean water, energy to heat and cool..) should never be a commodity for someone's investment portfolio. It should be a right for everyone. Our society has deeply strayed and the almighty buck/mega-buck-making has become more important than taking care of people.

God bless you both. I was recently homeless for over two years, a 61 year old woman alone with heart problems. No hot water, tub, toilet, fridge, sink, electricity, shelter, nothing that entire time, for years. What you did for this woman in her hour of need, while so many turn a blind eye, is so heartwarming and meaningful. May your kindness and compassion be an example for others to follow. 🙏❤️

I am elderly and handicapped and every month the bills get higher and maybe I will be forced from my home. It is frightening to think about. I was at the pharmacy not long ago and a older women had to choose her husbands medications over her own because the cost was $600.00, I cried all the way home. Asking that anyone who can reach out that they do so. It could be us someday. Maybe it is time to take our country back from a government that is so big and out of control. I wish the lady in this story was here with me, then neither of us would be alone. ♡

Do you know this is Canada? There is a big feeling in the USA that anyone that is suffering is suffering because they deserve it and I blame that at peoples religious feelings going back to Puritans, who equated wealth, and doing well with being blessed and selected by God to go to heaven, because they believe in predestination. @Alice-Lantern not sure what your message is here. Going back to the Victorian era to mention 'workhouses'... I don't get what you're saying. As for Christians helping everyone, well not sure about all denominations because there's something like 6000 protestant ones, but Catholic Christians are the largest charities in the World. Many operate under names that don't necessarily denote the religion. Jesus said when we do good works, we should do it discreetly so as not to bring attention to ourselves. To get accolades for our charity means we have already been rewarded. Having said that, I certainly do not imply that this couple should be quiet about their goodness and kind charity. This story needs to be told as that elder living on the streets is a disgrace and a shame upon our "society" and those that take and hoard away far more than they need, while others go without basic human needs.

In Calgary and probably every other city there are waiting lists for seniors to get into shelters, let alone housing. They are living on the streets until they can get into a shelter. Our hospitals are releasing seniors onto the streets no matter what their health, even cancer. These are the homeless we've been experiencing for the last two years that nobody wants to talk about. NOBODY! They are seniors/disabled/veterans; not addicts, criminals, or alcoholics. But they are forced to try and survive among them! It's -35c in Calgary today before the wind chill! 🥶😪💔

I don’t know the circumstances of this senior lady but I suspect she no longer could afford where she once lived so she stayed in her van until she lost that also. No one at that age should be on the street especially this time of the year. It’s wonderful to see this young couple helping her out. We need more like them.

This is just an amazing story. Recently (while feeling low myself) it occurred to me, wouldn't be a marvelous world if those who are very comfortable and well off, said "I'm fine, have more than could possibly need... how about you?" Rather than this more typical feeling of "this is all mine, go get a job or something". Implying that all financial hardship is due to the lack of will to work. Assuming the poor are someone else's problem. If more people said "I'm fine, how about you?" the world would be a kinder place with much less suffering.
