Sparkle pony! I laughed so hard when you got that ribbon -- because you really ARE exactly that by not having done any research on the event or Burning Man principles. You were much more prepared and self sufficient because of all your camping/travel experience. This is NOT the kind of event you go to "fresh, without any preconceived notions" so it's a wonderful blessing that you knew to get out early. Also, not all burners do drugs. Or drink. But thanks ;)

Sparkle Pony - wow, what an obvious example of someone who judges but has no idea. I love your outfits and your flair and joy for life! You also have a wonderful eye for detail after, especially after van life. The fact that you are beautiful is the only thing she got right but she missed that you are beautiful on the inside. There is nothing wrong with enjoying how you look and putting outfits together unless you make it your whole life and look down on others. How you look is not why I watch you but your style is a happy addition. I am sorry she did that to you and that you had an infection. It is difficult to always be happy go lucky when you feel bad. I am glad you left before the rains came and that you both are ok. I knew though that you could survive it if you were there because you are not their definition of a Sparkle Pony!

Sparkle pony. 🦄The girl who gave it to you obviously doesn't know you and your skills, preparedness, and cuteness. Ignore her - we all know you better. Other thoughts: so awesome that you figured out the generator, but also, of course you did! Your resilience and problem-solving skills are amazing! I often go on vacation and then feel like I want to go home and clean my house, so I get it. The moon and earth art is cool. I wouldn’t have made it past the sand angel on the first day, let alone a dust storm and rude people giving out sparkle pony ribbons. Glad you made it out before the rain. Hope you feel better!

Same! it was a lose lose situation haha. Will definitely bring a bigger generator next time and run the AC before bedtime ... might as well sleep outside or in a tent if you're willing to breathe in that dirt all night. I've heard the dirt there is alkaline/toxic and that you should wash it off your body, so definitely would rather be hot and not have my lungs filled with that stuff.

Dont get offended by sparkle pony... you said it yourself, you came unprepared. All you did it selfreliance, but i didnt see you actively helping community, building the camp, gifting anything or anything else besides being a tourist and sight seeing. I dont judge you, we had a virgin burner in our camp this year and after her mandatory shifts, i told her that she could and definitely should spend as much time out of the camp, exploring. First burn should be more about seeing and experiencing things, rather than participating a lot. You have to remember that everything you see or do at burning man is brought by other burners. I have 8 years, and i never left early, built our camps about 6 times, stayed for strike of the camp about 7 times, brought an art installation, taught a workshop, worked countless shifts, volunteered a couple times. Costumes is not my priority, even tho i do have a few cool ones that i recycle. Wear the sparkle pony badge proud, and then if you end up going again, consider participating more, now that you have seen it. Few tips: 1.No feathers, sequin or glitter. It is moopy and frowned upon 2.Inverter generator, not open frame. They are much quieter and safe for electronics 3.Freeze a bunch of single use water bottles and use them INSTEAD of ice inside your cooler. It will stay frozen much longer and you can drink frozen cold water as they melt 4. Make a copy of your ID and tape it to a cup eith a carabiner. Bonus point if that cup has a lid that is secure 5. Carry a backpack / fanny pack or install a lockable box on your bike to put things like extra layers, water bottle (hydroflask is ideal) gifts for others, gifts from others, goggles, etc. 6. Find ways to participate somehow. Sign up for shifts within the camp, volunteer at ice camp or like a temple watch, etc. It adds to experience Just something to start planning for next time

When you show the good, the bad and the ugly... it makes your viewers feel like they are normal because you are normal. Luckily I found it on my last day before returning home so I totally understand your concern when loaning out your bicycle built for two. Burning Man exposes the many sides of humanity. The good and the bad. I've been six times. The last time was 2009 so it has been a while. I want to go again, but we will see. I like the way you document. Very observant and discerning. I'm a 12 timer, esplanade theme camp guy and we LOVE our sparkle ponies! Because ours are like you! They fluff us ( bring us water and snacks during build ), and keep us super happy and motivated. Btw, you had a meltdown. That's 100% normal!

Sparkle pony. Oh my gosh, so sorry you weren't feeling well. BM looks like a lot of fun, minus the dust. I'm so impressed with how prepared you were considering the short timeline. A lot of RVers use what is called a "soft start" for their air conditioners, it draws less power at first so it doesn't overwhelm the generator. You definitely are not a sparkle pony! thanks for the reality, like you, I think so many YTers only post the good and don't show real life, which makes their videos seem fake. There’s a lot of heckling and jokes made but it’s all in good fun for the most part. She was wearing the badge as well, take it in stride and share a laugh! It’s rarely malicious! However coming to the burn with no research is not great for the community as a whole, I hope you were at least aware of the 10 principles of the event.. also be prepared to receive some criticism while filming consistently as it’s frowned upon to photograph / film other burners without their consent at this event (you may have known this with prior research). But I do hope you had a good time and contributed to other burners good times as well.

Sounds like the only thing left that you need to know about generators is that there is an exciter cap that can fail and thats usually sometime after it's ten year life expectancy is up, also you will need an ESR meter to test it and whatever you replace it with.
