0W-20 Full Synthetic Oil, & items I use for my 2013-2017 Honda Accord on my Amazon affiliate Storefront:
www.amazon.com...
My original video shows how the engine sounds if we do not check our oil levels and it gets too low. This is a follow up where I spent a few months seeing if I could stop the oil burning, or at least reduce the amount of oil being burned/ lost.
The results are that we need to be proactive and check the levels and top off accordingly to prevent damage and prolong the life. Let me know if ya'll are having this issue.

I've had this issue on my 2013 since day One. It burns oil for sure as there are no leaks anywhere. I check it every 2nd fuel fill up. It uses like 1/2 qt every 2500 or so miles. I think all 2.4ltr engines burn oil. I just keep some a couple of quarts in the trunk. This really isn't supposed to be normal but it just turned 180K miles so I don't care too much anymore. Really had no issues with the car other than I increased the battery size to group 24 rather than the original 51. No more dead batteries after doing that. I'll probably move on to Toyota after this. I won't buy anything with a Turbo.

I have a 2013 Sport w/ manual transmission and have the same problem.. I just replaced the valve cover gasket a couple months ago. It was previously replaced by a local mechanic a year prior and I assumed that maybe he didn’t do a good job so I made sure to take my time and do it myself. I currently don’t see any oil seeping out again, but I did have the exact same noises these past few weeks. Oil light flashed on this morning and I added a quart. Sound went away instantly, but now I’m considering getting an oil analysis to figure out what’s really going on inside the motor.
@Striker50_
@Striker50_ 11 ай бұрын
Interesting to hear that. Do you do the oil changes yourself usually? How often do you top off, if at all? I've never had the low oil light come on which is concerning because the time I had it very low, the car didn't even recognize it. In my last video I added a quart as well and that was very low and making the nasty sounds. Are you looking to see if there are metals, fuel, coolant, etc in your oil?

Hey @Striker50_, great video! I have a few ideas that worked for me, that could possibly work for you. Typically, with these 2.4 Earth Dreams I like to bring the oil to the top of the dipstick, which is exactly 5 quarts after an oil change. From lots of knowledge on engines and with this particular engine, a half quart more oil will not hurt it and in fact, the timing chain likes the little bit of extra oil. The timing chains on K24's do not like low oil. Running the engine even at or below the bottom dot for hundreds of miles very much stresses that chain. For those of you, chains do not "stretch," they elongate because the little pins in between each chain link wear, causing the overall length of the chain to be extended, "stretched" chain; more so because of low oil/extended oil changes. I bought the car brand new and have 130,000 miles and does not burn a drop of oil. I change the oil at 50% or 5,000 miles from day one with 5 quarts. At around 80,000 miles, I noticed a little bit of a rear main seal leak. Around 3,000 miles, between 70% and 60% oil life, the level would be a little bit above the halfway point. Technically, this is "good," but the car did not burn a drop before and was always a tiny bit above the top dot after 5,000 miles. I switched to Valvoline High Mileage 0W-20 Full Synthetic and after about 3 or so oil changes, it does not move a centimeter. I still average anywhere between 34-38 mpg with this car for both city and highway driving. It's honestly been a great car. I would do 5,000-mile oil changes and give a high mileage oil a shot. Again, for me, it took about 3 oil changes before no oil loss. Thinking this "swelled" the seal as the leak hasn't returned. It can also swell valve stem seals in case those are starting to wear a bit, causing oil to be burned. I fixed this on a 2002 Toyota Camry that had valve stem seals going bad. Never smoked blue on a cold start again. However, in any "modern" engine, pretty much all manufactures switched to low-tension piston rings. With the older cars having stronger rings, they can "squeeze" out carbon that would typically clog a low-tension ring from people's "poor maintenance" for lack of a better word. And in today's times, you can't blame anyone, we are all busy and for a lot of us, cars are something we don't think much of. We take the built-in maintenance systems really for granted. Short distance driving, lots of cold starts; cold weather driving, extended oil changes, etc., will cause the rings to gum up and eventually burn oil. Frequent oil changes with a good synthetic will be the best cleaning agent, more often than not, slow oil burning or stop it all together. I would not recommend increasing oil viscosity with this engine. The older K-Series you could, but Honda's VTEC system in this car is very complex. I have seen it firsthand on a family member's car cause rattling, ticking, and in one case, a VVT solenoid fault. Now, I think this really is temperature dependent with the higher-grade oil, but imo, not worth the risk. It is important to note though, if the engine got damaged even in the slightest from low oil in any way, there is no fix that will stop oil burning other than a rebuild. In that case, just add oil. The engine will still last a very long time regardless. It's a Honda...

**filter spool valve** change it, that should fix your problem. It should not burn much oil at all. The engines are notorious for oil dilution because of the GdI situation sometimes gasoline was getting into the oil. For that reason, you should change your oil every 3000-5000 miles regardless at the very least or once a year if you don’t drive that much in a year. Hope it helps I personally have fixed two earth dreams and along with the Pcv they never needed more oil added before oil changes. There is absolutely no need to change the valve cover gasket. It won’t hurt but it’s a waste of time and or money.

The valve cover gasket is literally seeping oil. It 100% had to be replaced. As for the part you're mentioning, the only videos I could find are 2012 Accords and older having that issue
@kevinmaguire4437
@kevinmaguire4437 9 ай бұрын
@@Striker50_ it’s the Earth dream engine in general actually many Honda engines not just on the accord Or even earth dreams it is more of a Vvt problem/issue, it’s fine that you replaced the valve cover gasket however, that is not why it is losing oil. Change your filter spool valve and you will not need to change your oil until your next oil change. They work in unison/same area with the PCV valve usually for some reason, when the PCV fails, you get a back pressure which causes the valve cover to seal to fail and with compression strokes it seeps oil, as well as sucks it back in which causes that screen. If you look up the part, you’ll know what I mean by screen to get clogged, causing pressure which leads to more seepage. This video refers to it as a VVT oil control valve. I don’t believe this is your exact motor however, this shows you what I’m talking about. on your particular motor I haven’t taken the time to look it up but most of the motors it is an easy change(basic to medium mechanical skills), and it does help correct it. I will post a link to this guy’s video, which is very vague, but should set you on the right path of what part that needs to be changed as well that I’m trying to convey. Best of luck 👍 Ps. The last engine i fixed it on was a 2016 crv so its still an issue on the newer Vvt engines. Trust me I profit not from this information however whoever you’re paying to fix your issue is. Some don’t know and others realize there’s not as much money in the cure as there is in the treatment. kzbin.info/www/bejne/d6qcXnyQeN6Am80si=YkoKqPxe9cjKbH-S

I reviewed my tensioner pulley video, and I do not see the screen location like in the video you tagged for the 2003-2012 accords. I have also changed the pcv valve in my accord and it still burns oil despite that. What I have understood from looking into this is that the oil is being burned through the piston rings. The re-occuring solution I have seen is to top off oil every 1k miles and to be on top of oil change intervals @@kevinmaguire4437

Yup same engines. luckily, if you add oil regularly, it'll run like normal

@@Striker50_ Right now it's at the point of where it gets right below the lower marker on the dipstick approaching 5k miles post oil change. I purchased the car new and it now has 122k miles on it. I do check on it regularly once it drops below the halfway point on the dipstick.

@@Semos1000 Nice, sounds like they all burn about the same amount of oil. While not fun, at least it's not burning a quart every 1,000 miles

I agree, unfortunately it's quite common and there's no other solution other than keeping a closer eye that I've come across

But what is the ultimate issue here ? Are the rings getting caked up with carbon prematurely ?
@Striker50_

Could be the thinner oil being more susceptible to burning off or mixing with fuel and burning off, as well as some loss to seepage through worn out valve cover gasket. Being on top of maintenance can possibly ward off some of this@@tooththrhr

@@Striker50_ I'm sure some fanatic somewhere has found the issue with these engines...I know the 10-13 mdx had an issue with cylinder lining materials and ring design...

I've heard it all through the comments on my vids and elsewhere but there's no solid conclusive point. I've heard the piston rings, 3k oil changes, changing pcv valve, and weather as the most common reasons@@tooththrhr
