Sol Connector is the result of a massive collaboration of the whole Burnt community: the musicians, our producer and engineer Calvin Turnbull, the Oz Farm crew, and all of our family and friends. In order to complete production we launched a successful Kickstarter campaign (www.kickstarter.com/projects/burnt/burnt-the-new-album), and without the support of our backers this album would not have been possible. We are filled with joy and gratitude for the opportunity to share this album with the world.
For nearly a decade Burnt has been dreaming of recording an album at The Domes on Oz Farm in Point Area, California. Located on a remote part of the Mendocino County coast, Oz Farm (www.ozfarm.com) is 'off-the-grid', using solar and wind power for all its operations. "The Domes" are two geodesic redwood structures surrounded by a meadow and coast redwood forest, and located on the Garcia River, which flows through the farm.
The challenge of recording at The Domes included the need to hand carry all of our music equipment, recording gear, food, etc. across the river by way of a narrow foot bridge (which Rob our drummer helped to install), and then down the Trail to The Domes. Another challenge was power: we had to bring Rob's solar power set-up including batteries and panels from his nearby property, carry them across the river, and set them up at The Domes, along with a back-up generator (which thankfully we rarely had to use). All of the hard work in setting up was well worth it.
