THANK YOU! You are the FIRST I have EVER seen to address COOKING bees in the Pan of the Vaporizer. I have written the MFG of MY Vaporizer and NO reply.. have asked on different BEEK forums and NO answer. I have treated 4 times and each time..my Pan is so full and encrusted with COOKED bees I have to spend an hour cleaning it up. My hive bottom is different but will try to work up a solution similar to yours! Thanks, again for this Post!

What if you placed the burner off to the side, nowhere near the brood cluster? Would that work?

CluelessBeeKeeping I'm trying to get the oxalic acid to as many bees as possible, moving it off to the side in my mind would not be as effective as letting the vapor run straight up through the cluster the only thing I'm trying to avoid here is Bees directly getting burned by the hot element. I wouldn't want there to be a large air gap in the center of the boxes that didn't get treated

I get it, but...try this. Sure, not as a habit, but just try this one time. On a nice hot day, get your smoker and smoke the living daylights out of your hive. Do this on a hive which has the sun near sunset so you can see the smoke very very clearly. (sun peering into the entrance) When I was newer and even dumber than I am now, I did this to see how the air flowed in my hive. I pumped it into the top entrance, I pumped it into the bottom right side, bottom left side. I promise you, if you do the above, you'll see how there is an incredible amount of air flowing in your hive, allllll over it. Oxalic acid is some noxious stuff, it won't kill the bees, but they sure don't want it, and they do everything they can to get it out of the hive. If you fill your hive with smoke you'll see smoke absolutely shooting out the front, if you do this when the sun is low enough you can see the bees all over the bottom board fanning madly away in unison. Try it, see for yourself. The acid goes everywhere, regardless where you place your wand. Especially if you seal the entrance. They'll all fan madly trying to get rid of the stuff, but they'll just distribute instead.

CluelessBeeKeeping I get and know what you're saying but by putting in the vaporizer in the front entrance even off to the side the Bees still have direct access to it and can walk over and try and sting a piece of hot metal, when it's under the screened bottom board bees can't touch it and can't burn their feet

amazing solution, the first time I did it today and burnt a few bees.
