Crazy? No sir, I think the word for you two is "determined". And don't let anyone tell you different. And keep the headlights - I think they fit the narrative of what you're going for. The "Crispy Comet" is indeed 1 of a kind😁👍

Being a Ford/Mercury guy it’s a tribute to how tough that little car is. I think it looks great as well and the former owner, although distressed it isn’t it’s previous self should be proud to see that it lives on even after something that severe. Keep up the good work!

I love it. I'd just leave the patina like you have it but it would be cool to fix up the rest. Get some trim, seals, grille, and interior to make it comfortable. I really like what you've done so far. Good job saving it from the crusher.

Can you imagine meeting this car on a dark country road with those maniacal headlights circling and changing colors on that burnt out car, passing cars and just ripping around, some people would think it is a car straight outta hell! The devil came down to Georgia! :)

Dude! This is almost as good as the Porsche. It’s going to be bad ass if you bring it back from dead except for the patina. Like a warrior wearing it’s scars for everyone to see but still very much the hot rod. The Rat Rod Zombie Comet!

Great to see you painting the surfaces that do not show. I am not a "patina" fan but the fire damaged exterior is part of this rig's story. A budget friendly paint job can come later. When that thing was new, NASCAR had a "Baby Grand" series for compact cars. People go crazy for "street legal" stock cars. Skip all the interior expense and embrace the "baby grand" tribute scene.

I agree those led headlights don’t fit the car (read ugly as sin). I think some standard H4 replacements would look fine. That melted spoiler isn’t doing the rear end any favors.

The progress on this car is awesome! It is currently one of the coolest builds out there. This car deserves every chance to look as sinister as possible. Think "Christine" when she was on fire and after the fire in the movie. Blacked out headlights, taillights, and maybe even window tint. Limited slip rear end to top it off and this car is just absolutely awesome. Can't wait to see the next episode with it!! Thanks for bringing this car to us.

First thought when I saw this car and you guys getting it from the junk yard was that it has to be painted, like theres no way that thing will look unique and cool later on like that. I was wrong, its looking so good when you applied surface treatment inside and in the engine bay, same as that clear coat or surface treatment outside the car really brought this car to the next level, absolutely love it! I believe it deserves restoration everywhere else but the "paint" would need to stay as it is now. Looks so cool, cant wait to see interior, glasswork and lights restored on this ❤

It's fantastic you saved that Comet GT. There's not many of them left. Did you get some of that protectant behind the new headlights? However to truly preserve the car for the future it really should be painted. That being said I still love this build. Especially since I have the sibling to that car. A 1970 Ford Maverick. You had said you believed the engine was from 1981. However the engine can't be from 1981 as there is literally no such thing as a 1981 Ford 302 engine. In 80 & 81 (only) the 255 V8 was available. The very good news is your engine is definitely not from 81 or a 255 V8 because according to Edelbrock thier Performer 289 intake doesn't fit a 255 V8 or apparently a boss 302. The 255 are easily mistaken for 302. They are a smaller bored version of the 302, but do share crank and rods. Only 118hp & 193lbs torque. Looking forward to seeing more progress. Keep up the fantastic work.

Yes it would be a cat B write-off off here and you wouldn't even be allowed to salvage the engine and drive train. I know of a lovely early 70s P6 that can't go back on the road due to a minor interior fire. So stupid. Much prefer the relaxed US approach to these things.

I'm not a fan of those headlights but I love the rest of the build. Lose that clump of fibreglass from the boot lid and use some of that black paint on the rear light panel. Awesome build series guys. 😎
@rich_edwards79
@rich_edwards79 10 ай бұрын
Totally agree, the remains of the GRP trunk-lid spoiler and melted tail lights let the rear end down. I'd remove the former, replace the latter with smoked lenses, and change out the headlights once something better is available. I think putting an interior and glass in it and making it usable whilst keeping the patina is the right way to go. It will need lots of sound deadening to counter the 'wobble board' effect of the weakened, distorted body panels but that shouldn't be difficult with everything so accessible. On the whole though, it's a great build. Who'd have thought it possible to ever turn something so seemingly ruined back into a functioning vehicle again?

I can't believe how far you've come with this car. I'm truly amazed that you were able to bring this back what an accomplishment. I would love to see you go all the way with it do something with the interior. And it would be a shame not to put a fresh coat of paint on there. Even if you just take it to maaco and put a $600 paint job on it or do it yourself that car needs paint it deserves paint it would look gorgeous with paint no one would ever know it was on fire if it had some paint. It sounds good it's going to drive good it's amazing what you've done those headlights are magnificent. Did I mention that car needs paint lol
